    Very nice….. ask you a question because I filled a lot of outside furniture/contraptions with wood and I find it frustrating that no matter which method I try to use when the wood since outside within just three or four months there seems to be lots of gaps. So let me ask you did you ultimately see gaps on your corner reminders or anywhere else because of the sun and wind and rain etc.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  2 роки тому

      Hey! There are in one or two of the joints but I’ve found using totalboat thixo epoxy I don’t get any gaps. I think it’s because it’s more of a gel consistency. That said, the outdoor wood glue has held up pretty well for the most part.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 роки тому +1

      Yes - it also makes it easier to keep the finish nice as you can just clean the wood and add more oil periodically. No need to remove the old finish. You can also use epoxy and vanishes, but I'm my opinion, this is the best bang for your buck re time and money.

    Be interested in hearing how this holds up with a few people sitting on it. A couple of pocket screws seems like a weak joint for those cross pieces. Mortise and tenon would be best.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 роки тому

      It is rock solid. The pocket holes are really just to hold things in place while the glue dries. It's definitely a good idea to glue these joints since they will be outside.

    • @darinnetherland3466
      @darinnetherland3466 4 роки тому

      Yeah but you’re gluing end grading so it doesn’t glue up as strong.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 роки тому

      @@darinnetherland3466 I have found that as long as you saturate the end grain with glue so it doesn't pull all the moisture out, you can get a good joint. I will let you know if it fails in the future, but I think the combination of pocket holes and glue will hold up well for as long as I keep the furniture.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 роки тому +1

      Hey! It just had to be straight enough to cut the first edge, then you flip it over and cut the second side parallel. You can also run the first cut through with the concave side attached to a straight piece of wood, then flip it over and reference the side you just cut. You can see some of how that works on this build: ua-cam.com/video/hAMJTn-GVoY/v-deo.html

    Did you also use a jointer then run it through a planer?

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 роки тому

      I am only using a planer, but I'm cleaning up the sides with the table saw.

    Is wood that cheap in the US? 1 board costs like 70 dollar over here

      Wow. Yeah these cedar 2x4x8' boards are $10, the pickets are $2.50.

    Is that tool a big planer at the bottom and a table saw on the top? Where can we get one?

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 роки тому +1

      No I think you are just referring to the table saw, which is a DeWalt DWE7491RS. I also have a planer, the DeWalt DW734. I've been really happy with both.

    Great design and looks pretty simple to make. However if you're not a professional and don't have a planer or table saw, it becomes much more complicated and expensive. 😂

      They are definitely helpful. I've actually made this same thing just smaller in another video to demonstrate how you can do it with a circular saw.

      Yeah, I actually just did a quick build with two tools. Working on the video now.

  • @optimus
    @optimus 3 роки тому +1

    is it me or does the math not add up? The total width of one of the legs = 4.5" however the 2x4 width is displayed as a 3" piece of lumber -
    3" + 0.5" + 0.5" = 4" but the sketch shows 4.5" total width.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  3 роки тому

      The sketches are initial plans but I definitely make changes in the fly for various reasons. So the build in the video can vary slightly from the drawings.

    Nice. Def needs a push up guard over that blade.

    • @pterafirma
      @pterafirma 4 роки тому

      Push guards are overrated, and wouldn't stop most table saw injuries. It's extremely rare to just carelessly drop your hand into the blade, and far more likely that it gets _pulled_ in by a workpiece that closed up around the blade and got thrown. Even more common is to get hit in the face or torso by a thrown workpiece. The riving knife that Dewalt includes is way more effective at preventing binding in the first place, and thereby eliminating the root cause of most table saw injuries.
