Simon Tam (Firefly)

Simon Tam gave up his life as a top trauma surgeon on Osiris, a central planet, in order to rescue his little sister, River Tam, from an Alliance academy, becoming a wanted fugitive in the process. He now practices aboard Serenity as the ship's doctor and attempts to heal River.

I think Simon was under rated to an extent. He was overshadowed by River and was more in the background. Reverend Book was also more in the background and not as heavily featured as the other characters.

Simon is my least favorite character. The only times Simon was necessary were to be River's nursemaid, to sew people up, and (most importantly) be the butt of jokes.

Not every character needs to be brass, loud, trigger happy, action hero. He wasn't the most exiting perhaps, but he was sweet with/to Kaylee, and NEVER dismiss the medic. They were all an archetype of some sort, but a medic is found, and necessary in every squad/team.
