Let me explain 😊.
This is Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo!
Located in Horse Cave, KY, about 100 miles northeast of Nashville, this place allows you, YES!, permits you to pet, feed and kiss kangaroos!!!
My dream has come true, lol.
Who needs to travel all the way to Australia?
Just come here to Kentucky Down Under!
Kangaroos are the star attraction (obviously)…other than the kangaroos, you can call this place a simple animal sanctuary.
Also featured is a petting zoo with sheep, goats and donkeys. You can enter into a lorrie house and have birds fly onto your shoulders and head.
And…along the grounds they feature horses, tortoises, pigs…etc…
One pleasant surprise were two ostriches roaming around inside the kangaroo enclosure.
Now, usually ostriches have a poor reputation for being a little aggressive, but the ones here were gentle as anything. I fed the ostriches the same pebbles as the kangaroos.
Ultimately, it was a fulfilling day to visit.
Here are some extra details….
- It’s 25.95 entrance fee for adults.
- They sell the food for kangaroos either…
1 cup for - $1
2 bigger cups for - $5
1 giant 16oz cup for - $10
- If you have a large family with children who don’t feel like walking around, you can rent a golf cart.
- Included in the price of admission is entrance into caves located on sight.
- Kids can pan for gold.
- They have a gift shop and care/eatery for lunch.
- There’s a pleasant 1 mile nature walk along the grounds.
Overall, I used half the day enjoying making nice to the kangaroos. Plus, I walked and appreciated the setting on a beautiful spring day.
This Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo is amazing for those folks who’ve never interacted with kangaroos. I had a memorable time and will never forget this place. I highly recommend it!

@christoperfleming6832 it says…”no petting kangaroos head”, “no petting kangaroos ears”, “no running or yelling” and “no food or drinks”. Sorry about not getting a closer shot of the rules

@christoperfleming6832 good question. I once visited a reindeer farm and that was one of the rules as well. According to the reindeer farm, touching and petting their heads brought on unwanted stress to the animals. I guess the same is for these kangaroos. Still, you can touch their faces, necks, backs, tails, and even kiss them. They just ask you avoid the top of their heads. It’s still a thrilling experience!
