Corona Arch and Trail 🥾 - Moab, Utah
Corona Arch!! One of the most impressive natural wonders I have come across in recent memory. Corona Arch is dramatic to witness. It took my breathe away and had me in a bliss moment thinking about how beautiful the great outdoors are. I hiked to it yesterday and now fast forward 24 hours later and I'm still on "Cloud 9" from the experience!
That leads me into...how do you arrive at Corona Arch?? Good thing you've asked me, Seth, because I'd like to explain the details about what you can expect.
Corona Arch is located 14 miles outside of downtown Moab, Utah. Plug the name into Google Maps and you'll be directed to the trailhead parking lot without a problem. The drive is along Highway 279 which is a leisurely paved road running parallel to the red canyon walls.
Corona Arch is under BLM watch (Bureau of Land Management) and so it's free to hike here. The trail is 3 miles in total roundtrip and if you'd like to add Pinto Arch onto the hike, it's an extra 1.2 miles more roundtrip. Corona Arch measures 105 feet high spanning 140 feet wide. It's jaw dropping!
I'd rate the trail as moderate. You gain 400 feet in elevation but near the end of the hike you climb along slickrock pavement while holding onto chain links including going up a ladder. It's not a daunting task. Then just make your way around the edge of the cliffside and you'll see Corona Arch standing high and mighty in its glory!
Corona Arch, in my opinion, is right behind Delicate Arch (the most celebrated in Utah) when ranking majestic landmark arches in the United States!
Delicate Arch is what every tourist hurries to when visiting Arches National Park. There will be a long line just to get pictures with it.
Yet yesterday, July 13th, from 1pm - 4pm, I was the only hiker at Corona Arch! I had the entire place to myself. No worries about being interfered with by strangers. No waiting. Not having to hear others talk. It's an opportunity you don't get often, and I was cognizant of that fact. I was humbled and forever grateful to soak up the surroundings and admire Corona Arch.
I will reveal another detail, lol, for this summer of 2024 the USA has been going through an intense heatwave and it was 109 degrees while hiking. Conditions were cruel. I anticipated that going into the hike. But I prepared myself well and put on a brave face with determination to accomplish the hike. And it was a success.
My only issue was when taking pictures and a few recordings, my phone would overheat and then I'd have to wait 10 minutes for it to cool down. This happened a bunch of times and slowed me down leaving me exposed to the sun without shade. Good thing I brought a towel with me but I probably could have shaved 45 minutes off the journey had my phone not gone into overheat mode. But honestly, from my other experiences at places like Death Valley and Joshua Tree, I figured that could be a factor, so it didn't deter me.
Some extra notes off the top of my head...
- Just before arriving at Corona Arch, you can't miss Bowtie Arch sitting practically right next to it. Bowtie Arch appears like a giant hole in the canyon walls. It may not be as photogenic, but it's a pleasant surprise off to the left hand side of the trail that can't be missed.
- Starting out on the hike is the hardest part of the incline. But you get to view down on the parking lot before leveling off the remainder of the way. You'll pass over a set of train tracks and wind your way through barbed wire fencing. It's sort of playful like an obstacle course. On the return trip back to the parking lot, I spotted a locomotive chugging along the tracks which was exciting.
Overall, Corona Arch and Trail was one of my fondest memories visiting Moab. It connected me to nature on a new level. And I believe it's off the beaten path enough that if you're interested in finding worthwhile destinations outside of the hectic happenings at Arches National Park, Corona Arch will provide you with the extraordinary backdrop you're looking for.

    Make sure you don’t hike in the middle of the day when it’s super hot and bring lots of water with you. People die here while hiking because they don’t come prepared and use common sense.

    • @punkin314
      @punkin314 26 днів тому

      @@SethAugust Oh no! Well, another trip is warranted. I actually don't do the grind much anymore because it is SO busy but there are so many here depending on your experience (how far away from people you can be/are prepared to be) and fitness level. There are many great 'popular' hikes, like the BCMC that runs parallel to the grind but it is not as groomed. Then there is St. Marks over at Cypress Bowl, another heavily trafficked hike, but if you are experienced and have the gear, you can go a lot further on the Howe Sound Crest Trail which is a through hike. You can do lots out in the Fraser Valley like Lindeman lake, another well trafficked excursion and if you better prepared you can continue on to green drop lake. Cheam is another great Fraser Valley hike. There is a lake loop at Buntzen. These are all ones that more people do, so more chances of you getting help if you need it. Our back country stuff is no joke and unfortunately many people need rescuing by SARs because they were ill prepared.

      I can’t thank you enough!! This is all incredible info 🤩 I don’t know if it took long to research, but simply amazing 🙌 👏! You would love Miami Airport - MIA. That’s my hometown area and there’s a furniture store there that has outstanding views for spectators to watch planes arriving. Some of the biggest carriers in the world like British Airways, Qatar and Lufthansa. I wish I had more airports to do plane spotting from, but nothing at the moment. Thanks 💯 I had a 3rd video of my nephew posted (which was really entertaining), but unfortunately it was taken down and I got a strike against me. I was receiving complaints unfortunately. That’s too bad because I had great content ideas with him. And they were just meant to be playful, more entertaining than risky. But people took things too literally and seriously 🤷‍♂️

      Thanks! Haven’t been to the Moda Center yet, but hope to someday. I guess you’re the opposite and still need to visit Climate Pledge 😁

      Amazing! You certainly know your aircrafts 🙌. Do you know just by looking instantaneously? Thanks for watching can’t believe how knowledgeable you are 👍 ✈️

      @@SethAugust Thanks very much! Yes I do know all my aircraft’s because I am a long term plane-spotter who has been spotting for 5 Years! I use FlightRadar 24 to track flights from all around the world to their destinations! I can easily identify an Airbus or a Boeing by just looking at their front nose cockpits, size and engines!

    • @SethAugust
      @SethAugust 2 місяці тому

      I just downloaded the Flightradar 24 app, thanks! Incredible you can judge a plane by looking at the cockpit and engine sizes 👏 Do you have a favorite airport for plane spotting?

    • @GarlandTexasSpotter2024
      @GarlandTexasSpotter2024 2 місяці тому

      @@SethAugust Well, since my family decided to move a far place from the airport, (which I hate the most). I have 2 Airports to PlaneSpot, DallasFort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Dallas Love Field (DAL). To tell Boeing and Airbuses, you can take a look of the cockpit windows. Typically, Boeing has a curved down “V” Shape across the Boeing lineup (except 787 and 747). Airbuses mainly have a curved “squared” back window notch design.

      Sorry you dislike the move. At least DFW has international carriers and DAL is more domestic, I would think lots of Southwest planes. But very interesting the difference between Airbus and Boeing cockpits. I’ll pay attention next time to see if I can judge between curved and squared cockpits. But great insight, awesome 😎

    You flew on my favorite airplane, the rare Boeing 717-200! I love the sound of those Rolls Royce BR700 Engines!

      @SethAugust 2 місяці тому

      Yes 717’s are hard to find these days but Hawaiian Airlines uses them for island hopping. And I sat in the rear of the plane next to those engines. It was thrilling hearing them full thrust racing down the runway ☺️

      @@SethAugust I agree with you, I love Jet Engine Sounds! And by the fact, Hawaiian Airlines is not just 1 operator of the 717. Delta and QantasLink operate a few of them and Delta being the largest operator of them.

    • @SethAugust
      @SethAugust 2 місяці тому

      Wow I didn’t know Delta operated them maybe shuttles from LGA to Boston and DC. I’m guessing QuantasLink goes around Australia though I’ve never visited
