Here's the thing, though, Izzy McGee: The reason why a lot of movies, like “The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023)” and “Borderlands (2024)” have big name actors is because there’s a saying in Hollywood that if you don’t have A-list actors, you have little chance of distribution. That's one of the reasons why the people behind "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return" got sued. Because "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return" doesn't have any A-list celebrities, therefore none of the big name studios wanted to distribute the film, which is why it was distributed by Clarius Entertainment, therefore it BOMBED in the box office. So, knowing that you have little chance of distribution if your movie doesn't have A-list actors, why do people still hate movies for having A-list celebrities if that's literally the only way you get distribution from big companies?
True, but there are some that can recognize certain voices. when I was kid I remembered noticing Captain K'nuckle from Flapjack sounded like the flying Dutchman, so what if Chris Pratt were to be in every animated release? Some could probably pick up it's the same guy
The thing is, a LOT of kids would understand the difference or recognize voices and actors if adults pointed them out. I was sure as hell excited as a kid to recognize familiar voices in different series and roles of cartoons. It honestly made me feel very observant, attentive, and smart. Even when I was under age 12, I actually DIDN'T like most hanah barbera cartoons my parents grew up with because the animation quality was cheap and recycled WAY too much, the laugh tracks grossed me out because they were all clearly adult voices weirdly timed, and then so much of the writing and mindsets were very often very ignorant, condescending, angry, and abusive (though this latter point specifically leans towards examples like Jetsons and Flintstones).
The target audience is as wide as possible. That is what these celebrities are meant to draw in. The problem is that if the whole show or movie sucks, the size of the star doing the voice doesn't matter.
It's not about convincing the audience. It's about convincing the investors. Some production companies and/or individuals are like "you want $20M from us? Then we have a say in choosing the cast or you don't get our money."
I can't tell you how much it broke my heart to hear Chris Pratt's regular voice coming out of Garfield I understand the marketing angle, but Lorenzo Music and Frank Welker embodied the character 10000% more.
Something interesting happened with the Garfield movie's Neutral Spanish dub, people here in Spanish-speaking Latin America wanted to hear Garfield's original VA from the Garfield and Friends show, Sandro Larenas, to reprise his role, but the thing is that the series was dubbed in Chile, while big budget animated movies are dubbed in Mexico, but Sony Pictures managed to contact Sandro and flew him to Mexico, but he didn't voice Garfield, instead he voiced Vic, Garfield's father, while Garfield was voiced by a Mexican celebrity
Yeah....sometimes it works in some movies...other times it's just...ugh...Chris Pratt as Mario still bothers me, movie is still fun, but...WHY?...lol At least Jack Black nailed it as Bowser.
@@Joeynator3000 This, and that's what it boils down to, some celebs can voice act, others absolutely can not, and they're just paying for the name and sound of their voice...not the quality. Jack Black is pretty good in that his style like Robin Williams has him pour himself into his vocal emoting. Others are...eh...you can have celeb A, B, or C and I can go "Oh yeah that's so and so...and?" if they're not GENINUELY bringing the game to the table they shouldn't be there, and not talking about them sitting down for interviews and "saying" they did cause that's marketing to sell the product, not an accurate reflection of them putting in effort.

@@AarnaAmbardar-n5d this is such a weak excuse, as if large movie studios would actually have this issue, the movie you used as example also seems to have bombed for just not being too great of a movie, and the lawsuit you're mentioning is because they were accused of scamming investors
Rachael Lillis, the original voice of Misty and Jessie on Pokemon, passed away on August 10, 2024. She'd been battling cancer, and the end of life medical bills were so expensive, her sister had to set up a GoFundMe to help pay them. Her fans are the ones who came through and donated, easing the financial stress of the past few months. This should never have been on them. Pokemon is one of the largest IPs in the world, and even though she hadn't been involved with it for quite awhile, the idea that someone who was instrumental from the beginning, who helped shape the franchise in America, wouldn't be able to afford to die with some level of comfort without the generosity of her fans is sickening. This isn't right and I am so angry right now.
Rest in Peace, Rachael Lillis. Keep on being the amazing Water Pokemon Master you were on Earth within the kingdom of Heaven. Her reoccurring performance as Misty alone should have been enough to set her up (financially) for life, especially given the extremely immense popularity that was the Pokemon franchise. The fact that her fans were the ones who came to her aid during her battle against cancer instead of the industry paying her residuals for her iconic performance from years prior is sooooo bittersweet. 🥺🙏🏽
It can definitely work, and i think especially before I'd say the 2010s-ish. An example that comes to mind is Megamind - you cant tell me the main trio were not made with their actors in mind, and because of that theyre highly elevated in their humor and characterization. However, the key is to not overuse the troupe and the actors that play them. Another issue though is that today the character is simply the actor, and an actor staring as themself just isnt an interesting role (unless theyre Jack Black)
@@Iisho I agree. It can be done, and people like Will Ferrell have the range to pull it off. Plus, he's had experience with voice acting in the past, so that helped. It's just with most (not all) recent films and shows, they tend to just focus on the fact that they hired a celebrity, and don't even bother to check if they have talent.
word. In specific, aquafina. Didn't initially know who she was but her voice is so damn grating, I'd rather suffer through constantly hearing chris pratt. (with the exception of the lego movie)
I still cannot believe that the Space Jam studio was so callous as to not allow the VAs for the Looney Tunes characters to attend the official premiere in the main building (that was for the "actors"), the red carpet OR the afterparty.
No fair! How dare Warner Brothers exclude the Looney Tunes voice actors from the same publicity as their live actors! If Hollywood thinks voice actors are not even real actors...then what value do they have? 🥺 The best resource available before AI voices?
😡How dare Warner Brothers deny their own Looney Tunes voice actors from the same publicity as Space Jam's live actors! If Hollywood thinks voice actors are not real actors, then...what value do they have as people? 🥺Are they only the best resource available before AI makes all voiceover jobs obsolete?
Actors like Mark Hamill, Keith David, James Earl Jones, J.K. Simmons, Ron Perlman, etc. are perfect examples of celebrities who are just as capable at voice acting as they are in acting live on set.
that Chris rock bit really shows why it was the penguins who were the ones that made an impact on the cultural zeitgeist and not the main four from that franchise.
Yep and now that I think about it most people just watched Madagascar for the penguins, honestly we didn't give a f*** about what the main four were doing and that's also why they got a spin-off series cuz people like them more, also I can't remember any lines from the four but I always remember skippers line smile and wave boys smile and wave
Too bad DreamWorks doesn’t want to show the Penguins again because they see King Julien as the character who made an impact on the cultural zeitgeist, when that’s just not true.
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios the penguins deserve their own movie sequel with 2 of the cast members (Jeff Bennet and James Patrick Stuart) from their Nickelodeon show returning to voice Kowalski and Private. King Julien, Mort and Maurice can star in the penguins movie sequel too but as secondary characters. Is that an amazing idea or what?
@@ReddyToAnimate It would be cool to see a Penguins Of Madagascar movie that’s more closer to the show, although I know legal issues between Nickelodeon and DreamWorks would prevent that from ever happening.
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios yes but however, the characters that are exclusive to the show won’t be on there so Dreamworks will go all out to make new characters and a new baddie for this sequel.
It really is. Because, truly, what kind of audacity does that take? Yes, Sir, you have stacks, Yes, ma'am, you were featured in this film. Do I give a damn? no? as long as you can voice a character we love with as much appreciation as we would, then you'll matter. Aside from that, your presence doesn't interest me. And the *worst* worst thing about it is that most of the time they don't even care about the character they're voicing, and it just flattens the performance to me.
this is why i like indie animation because normally they cant afford celebrity and end up with people like micheal kovac (who is good but not a celebrity)
@3615_TT Works heavy with Glitch productions and I think he's on other side projects, too. He's super well known, and very much appreciated in con spaces. But not quite celebrity yet. ... Amazon, why did you take him away from Angel Dust? :(
I’d say the biggest win for VA is the actress for Tails, Colleen O’Shaughnessy still providing his voice for the live action Sonic films and Knuckles show. She mainly voices him in the games and from what I can tell, isn’t a huge name in the industry.
Originally her name wasn’t even on the poster for Sonic 2, but fans complained and Jeff managed to get her name on there. Still, I wanna know how much she got paid for the movies.
I’m so glad they got her instead of just slapping someone famous onto tails. There’s a world out there where he’s voiced by Tom holland and that scares me.
I was so certain she was just gonna be there for the post credits as a boon. Imagine my amusement to see they actually kept her on board, and still are. Think she had the good luck, given the time, that she was both more viable in her long term experience at the character than trying to scramble for a kid at the time, and easier on the wallet since they were likely paying enough for Carey and Idris to get on board.
I heard that Paramount chose Colleen O'Shaughnessy for that role because they cleverly thought that her voice fit that character soo well that there was no reason to change it for the Sonic films that they have been making.
@@D3viant517 I think the only reason is because getting a younger person to voice due would have too difficult. Tails was originally voiced by kids in the Adventure games, but had to change voices because the boys hit puberty. So Colleen feels safer.
The only time I'd be fine with a celebrity actor is if that celebrity truly knows the character that they're playing and try to be as accurate as possible. There are some huge examples of this, even if they're not animated
I think Jack Black has made the same transition that Robin Williams and Alan Tudyk have made. They’re people who have earned the right to say they’re both kinds of actors. Williams breathed life into animated characters. Tudyk is so good at both subtle and drastic voice manipulation that you have to admit he tricked you in Wreck-It-Ralph. And Black has demonstrated that he can both transform his voice and bring nuance to goofy characters just with sound bites.
Jack Black CAN do the work and transform his voice, but sadly he is also to lazy to do so most the time. Either that or the studio demands he do the Jack Black voice for marketing purposes.
To be fair on the Mario thing, Charles Martinet has said he didn't want to do the movie and, since he was getting ready to retire, said that he wanted the franchise to hire a new voice. I don't think Chris Pratt was what he had in mind, but there's that much.
@@gengar618I mean Chris Pratt’s performance as Mario is fine, but he’s been getting offered way too many voice roles lately like Garfield and Barley in Pixar’s Onward
Hollywood understands risk though. I mean, Disney prints cash so celebrity power's effect on drawing ticket sales is debatable but anything else, when you're fronting a $30-60 million dollar animated picture that doesn't have the Disney logo on it, the studio wants certain assurances that people are going to see it one way or another. I don't agree but I understand their reasoning.
The fact that people that can change their Voice at will are payed less than random famous dudes who don’t have any qualiftications to Voice act is insane 💀
it's funny how it's the polar opposite in Japan, were some VA are actually more of a celebrity than tv/movie actors, I mean it helps a lot their entertainment industry is more based on anime, animated movies and video games, but still the contrast is baffling. An average VA in japan could actually have a tighter schedule than the regular actor, a single actor could be performing for more than one anime at the time, a videogame or a dubbing gig, now when you hit your big break and do the voice of a popular character, like let's say, Tanjiro from Demon slayer, not only will you be called to voice the character in everything he appears, be it a movie, video game, commercials and even toys, but also live appearances, in the west we only have conventions but in Japan, they constantly have anime related events, like "collaboration cafes", meets and greets, temporal store openings, permanent store openings, festivals, and yes regular conventions, there's also more job opportunities to VA's apart of the already mentioned animated movies, anime, video games and dubbing, there's commercials, narrator and announcers, the audio books industry, the manga and light novel industry actually has what is called "Drama CDs" which are essentially audio books, but the catch is, this "Drama CD" is usually a bonus that will never get animated or put in a manga/novel so the only way for you to know of this special chapter of your favorite franchise is to get this CD, which is usually a limited run and usually bundled to a special edition print of a manga or light novel. Bottom line, a veteran VA in Japan gets almost 10 times more recognition and work in Japan than a veteran in the west, and personally I believed it all stems down to "ye-olde" problem.....in the west animation is kid stuff while in the east is actually the bigger of the entertainment industry.
What makes AI scarier is that they’re already taking over. In the Netherlands, the supermarket chain Aldi has already replaced their default voice actor with an AI for their commercials. And the bastards have the nerve to announce it like it’s a cool thing, as if they didn’t just take away a weekly source of income from a voice actor.
At this rate our only hope will be that real va's will be like how vinyls are now, sounds more or less the same but your uncle says that it sounds more authentic.
automation has been replacing ppl in works since industrial revolution. Handcrafters were replaced by mass production, many farming, cleaning, reparing jobs were replaced with machines. Today we are getting stores or bars without employees, machines replacing ppl at storages etc. Lot of ppl lose their jobs because of that. And no one cared about that. Ppl starting to care about only when voice actors or writers started losing jobs. I guess because they belong to "the upper class".
@@nekrosis6560It's more profitable to get your intern to generate an AI voice for all the characters then to pay thousands or millions of dollars plus workers rights & benefits (if they get any to begin with) for actual voice actors who can retire at any time, lose their voice or even just become unpopular over night for any reason.
The world hates artists so much that the first thing they did with AI was replacing visual artists, voice actors, musicians and writers. You don't see AI followers advocating for AI to replace business owners, CEOs or even programmers, but you constantly see them asking for AI to be better at copying someone else's art, voice or appearance.
@@Slawa_Saporogez You know why. Artists have an inflated sense of self worth. Which is they tend to be bad at business and often get trampled on by everyone.
I'll be honest, I really do enjoy Awkwafina's acting/voice acting. But, it kind of is getting sickening for 2 unrelated characters to have the same voice.
I would have preferred Brenda Song voicing every other character over Awkawfina anytime. The woman is mad talented in both voice acting and acting on set and she's very pleasant to listen to and doesn't wanna make me pull my eardrums out.
You must not watch anime. Many well known voice actors either use their own voice, or don't have a range. I always joke that anime dubbers use the same ten voice actors. You know Richard Cox, or the guy who did Vageeta and Picolo when you hear them. Or the likes of Cree Summers for american media, Bumblebee, Foxy Brown, Numbah 5, etc.
@@ItsDaJax here in the Latin American Spanish dub fandom we tend to joke that the majority of anime (and sometimes not just anime) roles are done by Diego Becerril, who himself has only been working for 7 years, but he has dubbed characters like, Goh in Pokémon Journeys, Tsunayoshi Swada in Hitman Reborn!, Taiyo Asano in Mission: Yozakura Family, Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries, Iruma Suzuki in Welcome to Demon School!, Takemichi Hanagaki in Tokyo Revengers, Koichi Hirose in Jojo's, Akira Tendo in Zom 100 (both the anime and live-action), Haruo Yaguchi in Hi-Score Girl, Chilchuck in Delicious in Dungeon, Makoto Edamura in Great Pretender, Barnaby Brooks in Tiger & Bunny, Lloyd Garmadon in LEGO Ninjago, Donatello in Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Prince Zuko in the live-action Avatar the Legend of Aang, etc.
@@Azlanom Having the same voice for two or more characters is not much of an issue for me. I and many others enjoy Va's like Patrick Parburton J. K. Simmons, Both of which have used the same voice for multiple characters in differant shows and movies. One does not really need a extreme range or a differant voice to be decent voice actors/actresses. Voice acting is about energy and fun. I feel that is what really brings a character to life Awkwafina did a good job in doing that. 💛❤🐑
23:03: "It's the EASIEST JOB in the WORLD!" No it is not. It's ten to twenty different takes on the mic, several "god my voice is awful!"s, trying to find the right blend between your voice and the character, making sure the pitch and tone is right, and a lot more. To use Chris' words against him: "It's all about fame." If Chris Rock wasn't famous, they would've told him to get out the instant he brought THAT kind of performance in.
I feel like voice actors aren't taken as seriously as they should. Comedians like Robin Williams were able to give great performances, then there's others like Awkwafina....
Obviously Awkwafina isn't hired for her voice acting ability, but because she has a very DISTINCT voice. Yes she's hired FAR too often but having a recognizable voice is still valuable. Keith David, Steve Blum, Kristen Schall, and J.K Simmons all have the same voice for every character they play, they're just used more sparingly
@@GildedJackal Steve Blum actually has a pretty wide range, to be fair. Yeah, all his roles are dudes with deep, gravelly voices, but they're all different. Vincent Valentine, Spike Spiegel, Wolverine, and Zeb from Star Wars: Rebels are all voiced by him, and they all sound very different.
Brendan Fraser also did a great job as Taz in Back in Action, Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo in the live action Yogi Bear and Gabriel Iglesias as Speedy Gonzales in Space Jam 2.
Hot Take: I think Seth Rogan actually did worse as Donkey Kong than Chris Pratt did as Mario. At least Mario still sounds like a person, Pratt even gave him a Brooklyn-accent. Rogan doesn't sound anything like a gorilla, he sounds like Seth Rogan. Compare that to Jack Black, who didnt just use his normal voice for Bowser. He actually made it deeper and more gravely so it would sound more draconic. I didn't hear a bit of Po in Bowser's voice. But when I hear Donkey Kong, all I hear is Mantis and B.O.B. and Pumba. There's no distinction and it really breaks the immersion for me.
My thoughts exactly. I HATED Seth Rogen in that role because literally no effort was put into it. Chris, at least, put in some effort with that role. I'm not sure about Jack Black, though. I think maybe that was partially voice manipulation in post.
That kind of reminds me how Sony Pictures hired some UA-camrs to dub some of the Spider-Men in Across the Spider-Verse's Neutral Spanish dub, the dubbing and comic community made fun of it, especially since they hired some divisive figures. At least the main characters were dubbed by professionals Now Paramount Pictures hired UA-camrs to voice Megatron and Bumblebee in Transformers One, at least Optimus is dubbed by Chris Hemsworth usual dub voice actor, Andrés Gutierrez Coto
@@pablocasas5906 BUT, unlike the latin spanish case for the most part, at least makes the comparison of the american celeb voice actors superior, makes sense?
Here in Spanish-speaking Latin American we have to face with the same problem, but it's kind of random. Movies like Frozen, Moana, Strange World, Zootopia, Soul, Inside Out and Luca were dubbed by professional dub voice actors, while some like Toy Story and Red had celebrities in minor roles, but Raya and Wish had celebrities in major roles. Still, Disney actually does a decent job. Illumination, on the other hand, is the worst when it comes to hire Latin American celebrities, though luckily the Mario Movie was the only one where its dub was done entirely by professionals
In the US they had theater actors back in the day voice. Now it's whatever celebrity is popular and while some can voice act others just sound like they are only doing it for the paycheck.
As an actor, this is so true. 😭 I did a promo/commercial for a large (billion dollar) tech company (that hired a production crew that hired me), and people always ask if I made a lot of money, but nope... I made $800... before the 10% of my agent's fee...

It's to the point where those of us with highly flexible voices are stuck working regular jobs and entertaining coworkers with impressions, or doing stand-up downtown. We can't even get into the industry any more. And celebs don't even voice act. They just read lines in their normal voice. All that matters is people recognize their voice in everything they do. Those of us with TALENT? Nah, we don't need YOU guys anymore. We have FAMOUS people!
@@tygerchickchibi It’s a whole different ball game. It may not be the case in live-action movies anymore but names sell a lot of these animated. Tom Hanks was in Toy Story. Everyone should watch the documentary "I know that voice!" From 2013 to see a bunch of behind the scenes goings on and how difficult it can be. They go into detail on how movies, cartoons, anime and games approaches voice acting and the work that goes into it, while taking subtle jabs at Chris Rock who said "all you do is talk in a booth and pick up a cheque".
Ooh! Adding that to my watchlist now! Voice acting does seem like one of those jobs that looks a lot easier than it really is. Kind of like acting. There’s a lot more that goes on than what we see.
I think Garfield was the straw that broke the camel’s back. You know someone put no effort into a role when most parents are saying “he sounds just like mario”
My parents said that, and I didn't even want to watch the movie because I knew it would be C-tier voice acting. The story itself was good, it was Garfields voice that ruined for me
It's rough out there for VAs. For every "Peter Cullen is cast in live action Transformers films," there's a dozen "Everyone is recast for the Lego Ninjago movie."
Ya I was so upset by the recast for ninjago. Not only did they ignore the source material, but they also replaced a lot of the va's with worse performers, in my opinion. I will never forgive the way the industry treated the late Kirby Morrow.
And we almost didn't get Peter Cullen either. Michael Bay reportedly wanted Liam Neeson to play Optimus Prime and only let Peter Cullen audition at the insistence of the producers. And that only happened because the producers reached out to the fans before making the movie and the fans insisted they wanted Peter Cullen.
@ShockwaveFPSStudios duh doi! I dont know if im understanding you entirely, though, so I'll cover my bases. Kirby Morrow unfortunately passed away, and i dont think he got the recognition he deserved, particularly when he was recast for the movie. I know llyod made a brief cameo in the Lego movie. and that the films creation was only due to the incredible success of the Lego movie. I don't see how that makes recasting the voice actors who had been portraying their characters for years a good decision. The movie brought a lot of people to the show. I've made my peace with it, and I enjoy its take on garmadon and Lloyd's relationship. I think the movie garmadon did very well. It's still weird that they didn't hire Mark Oliver when he carried season 4, and the fans love it every time his character appears. The movie was part of the soft reboot and redesigns debuting in the season "sons of garmadon." Not only did they ignore the characterization of the characters in the movie, but they hired people who gave worse performances. the voice for Zane was particularly frustrating. The voice talent in the Lego batman movie was less set in stone because there have been so many actors for the characters. Will Arnett was Lego batman, and I think he did a great job that justifies his casting, maybe over a previous Lego batman. But that isn't my fandom, so I don't know. I hope I've communicated clearly, and I'm going to sleep now.
It's even worse in europe. We have influencers, rappers, and every other c-list celebrity doing prominent roles in animation. People who are not only not good actors but people who are absolutely incapable or doing the most basic acting you could imagine.
Here in Latin America it was recently announced that in the Transformers One movie a UA-camr/singer will dub Megatron and when his video performance was posted in social media by Paramount Pictures themselves, people made fun of how awful he sounded. Luckily, it has been confirmed that Optimus Prime will be voiced by Chris Hemsworth's usual dub voice actor in Neutral Spanish
@@mrnotsoevil really? Now to think about it, celebrity voice dubbing is kind of rare in live-action, but it is not unheard of. I remember that for the Latin American Spanish dub of the movie Yes Sir, Jim Carrey was dubbed by Mexican actor, Eugenio Derbez, instead of Carrey's usual dub actors. That was very weird since Derbez's previous experiences as a VA were in animated movies, he voiced characters like Mushu in Mulan and Donkey in Shrek, two roles that in English were done by Eddie Murphy, and since then he actually dubbed himself in Hollywood movies where he had a role, like in Jack and Jill
Yep, here in Italy, unless its an already extremely famous VA who is already a mass famous celebrity from the 70s to 90s age (because Italy lives on nostalgia vapors), every other big high caliber animation movie is basically handled to TV celebrities (often not even actors ffs), influencers or musicians... Last year I watched The Last Wish and Shrek 2 back to back with my cousins and I was left speechless by the sheer difference between the two's voice acting: TLW full with barely emotional performances or even casting straight up the opposite of the og english, like Jack Horner having a very deep and guttural voice... and then Shrek 2 rolle up. Perfect castings, emotional and fun performances and perfect casting. I can't stand it... especially since bad castings seems to be carrying on to animated shows too...
My breaking point was hiring Chris Pratt as the voice of Garfield, as it was for many people. There had to have been a ton of other voice actors more qualified for that role. That’s like giving the role of Mickey Mouse to Ryan Gosling. NO! Hire someone with talent! Stop allowing these celebrities to steal jobs from actual qualified voice actors like… Jim Cummings, Rob Paulsen, Phil LaMarr, John DiMaggio, Ashleigh Ball, Kelly Sheridan (hell ALL the women from My Little Pony). These are just people I can name off the top of my head. There are plenty more. I feel like voice actors need to do what writers and actors did and go on strike, so Hollywood can see not anyone can just waltz in and do it.
Thank you for mentioning Jim Cummings!!! I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. He’s been Winnie the Pooh for what, at least thirty years? And Tigger! His voice just makes me feel so cozy 🥺
Mine was Awkwafina, SHE WAS EVERYWHERE, Disney, DreamWorks, Netflix, Sony... She does the same voice EVERY. FUCKING. TIME but got roles in all that because she is famous...
A common problem with many celebrity actors which is especially true for Aquafina and Chris Pratt is that they force their personalities onto the characters they voice instead of them working to alter how they speak so they reflect the intended personality of the characters they voice! It’s possibly another celebrity marketing tactic which has ruined many characters and made many characters voiced by celebrity actors just feel and sound off/strange like if they are trying to be something that they are not because of the personality of the celebrity being most dominant over the character.
One of the worst offenders in my opinion was Zendaya as Lola Bunny in Space Jam 💀I don't think it's entirely her fault. Acting and voice acting are completely different ballparks, but LORD her vocal coach must have not cared very much. She sounded like she was just reading off of a piece of paper and phoned it in.
Random thought but I remember from an interview video with Kung Fu Panda 4's co-director Stephanie Ma, she and other members of the team wanted to bring back the Furious 5. Then they realized they couldn't give characters like Tigress speaking roles because it would cost nearly half the budget just to get Angelina Jolie to record a few lines. Then why didn't they just opt to hire Kari Wahlgren to voice Tigress instead? She voiced Tigress before in the Kung Fu Panda show and some shorts, and she's an ACTUAL voice actress with tons of experiences. Same could be done for the other Furious 5 members. They should use REAL VOICE ACTORS instead of celebrities, voice actor talent is so underrated in Hollywood.
@@FanSeitz YEAH! I love Kari Wahlgren's performance as Tigress in the show, in the movies it's just like Angelina Jolie talking, but with Kari you can really feel her voice embodying Tigress's character, she has so much personality in her voice, and at the same time she voices other characters in the show but she can change her voice in so many ways for each character. See now THAT'S real voice acting, that's something most Hollywood celebrities can't do.
For the same reason they didn’t wanna use Sungwon Cho (ProZD) in the movie despite the creatives themselves wanting him in: if their name wasn’t gonna put butts in seats they didn’t want them. Plus I imagine the upper brass were concerned (wrongly) that replacing Angelina Jolie would cause some kind of ‘brand confusion’ and that somehow kids and their parents would care about that enough to complain (they wouldn’t.) all of which are asinine reasons not to do it, but reasons the executives and marketing departments might have.
Actually, it is kind of worse. Spirited Away won Best Picture and, if I had to guess, the embarrassment was too real for Hollywood so they made sure animated films would never compete against _"real"_ cinema. It wasn't just so Disney could add another trophy, it was so some snobby (likely Americanized) art piece wouldn't get obliterated by something animated _and_ foreign.
While I agree with your sentiment, Spirited Away won best animated feature that year, not best movie overall. It was Chicago that won the Oscar for best movie.
I spoke to Charles Martinet Last Year at a fan convention, and he told me he wasn’t invited to the premiere of the Super Mario Bros Movie, despite voicing Mario’s dad and plays a character based on Jumpman (who’s supposed to be the original Mario from Donkey Kong). So it really sucks how despite voice actors being well known to kids who grow into teens & adults… they won’t have the same respect as live action actors in Hollywood because they’re not celebrities or famous.
@@davidlewis5189 Don’t be mad at Nintendo. While Charles didn’t voice Mario in the movie, He was still in the movie as Giuseppe and Mario’s Father. And in the movie, he roasts Chris Pratt’s Mario, who’s supposed to be his son in the film, which is basically Mario roasting Chris Pratt.
To be fair regarding Martinet, he came out and said that he’s leaving behind the Mario role a few months after the movie premiered. He may not have had it in him to play Mario for a feature-length presentation, and I respect that. Now, choosing Pratt…
Mario was first voiced by a wwf wrestler with a Brooklyn accent and teamed up with insp Gadget in live action played by his voice actor, Ernie Hudson came to bust some ghosts for the brothers DIC has connections
Martinet said he would do the role for as long as he was able - and I respect him for acknowledging that he was getting older and couldn't do it as well anymore. I love Martinet but even I could admit that in the past few years Mario was getting "old man voice" - and hearing his replacement in Super Mario Wonder was like listening to Martinet back in the SM64 days. It was so refreshing to hear Mario sound younger - and Afghani will get better with more experience.
My younger brother is especially vocal about this stuff. We're huge fans of Garf and when the movie was announced, begrudgingly, we instantly knew what he was gonna sound like.

23:51 Much love to all these actors, but shout out to Vincent Price for his performance. Great Mouse Detective is an underrated Disney film, but Ratigan especially stole the show in every scene he was in due to Price's enthusiasm just oozing out in his performance. He said it was one of his favorite roles and was giddy to show off a maquette of his character (gifted to him by Disney) in interviews.
And Matthew Lillard has been playing Shaggy since the first Scooby Doo movie because he did such an amazing job, and he literally screamed himself hoarse before filming to get that scratchy voice. He suffered for his craft, he DESERVED to be in that movie!
@@sev1120 that kind of reminds me that in the Latin American dub of the first two live-action Scooby-Doo! movies, Mathew Lilladard was dubbed by the son of the actor who originally voiced Shaggy in the original cartoons, though his father did have a role in the first movie voicing Scrappy, since he also voiced Scrappy
Matthew Lilland being replaced is an insult in so many levels. He was an A list celebrity, yes, but he embodied Shaggy so perfectly in both Live Action and cartoon form. I cannot imagine Shaggy being voiced by anybody else in a modern adaption😢.
@@gucciguy3408I think that’s also partly because games take so long to make and can contain a LOT of voice lines, since games are designed to be longer than movies or TV shows. I mean, think about it. A game that takes, like, 3 hours to complete is considered really really short. But a 3 hour movie is really really long. So imagine you were paying a celebrity to do voice acting and they have to read so so many lines. That’s a lot of time you’re paying for. It’s cheaper and easier to hire a VA instead.
I've seen so many people openly stating that voice actors "deserve to be replaced by AI" in comments talking about that strike. It's depressing how apathic people have turned the moment genAI became mainstream, and they all act like they will "never" be eventually threatened by it as well. Just laughing and mocking others constantly.
I find it weird that Studio X wants to hire a big star to draw in crowds, but Studio X would also deploy AI voice acting - which would surely turn a large sum of the viewing audience away...

I feel like Hollywood is miscasting voice acting roles with overrated actors and actresses who aren’t really fit for their role. Chris Pratt is a great actor, but he’s not the right choice for Mario nor Garfield, also Will Smith is terrible is most voice roles in animation! Animation and live action are both completely different talents, it’s the voice talent that matters in animation, unlike facial expressions in live action films!
Hollywood and studios are to blame, not celebrities. They're simply just doing their job. Those people who run those companies are actively pushing away professional voice acting and choosing celebrities out of complacency.
No, celebs got greedy. Voice acting was for people not pretty enough to be in movies, movies were for the pretty faces. Then celebs started taking BOTH sides of the pie.
@Rhiorrha What you said was literally the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. You clearly haven't seen the issues that's been going on for years, like, for example, the SCOOB controversy, the Peter Cullen situation during the production of Bumblebee. And don't get me started with Space Jam: A New Legacy's horrible controversy.
@@Rhiorrha That controversy from SCOOB was really bad, and the voices of the Mystery Gang were very miffed at WB's decision to hire celebrities to voice the characters. What's worse is that they only kept Frank Welker in the cast, probably because in the studio's minds is that Frank is more famous and prolific than Matthew Lillard, Grey Griffin, and Kate Micucci. And that's fucked up that they think they're worthless, it's a miracle that they even still want to be working with them after that.
I feel like whenever a movie with a celebrity casting does really well Hollywood jumps to the conclusion that it did well because of said celebrity casting and NOTHING else.
Another notable example: The Lego Ninjago Movie. There was a team of well-established voice actors for the tv series, that it was a disappointment that they weren't even considered for the movie. They instead chose celebrities that ruined the characterization of the main group of ninjas specifically. Some were better prepared for their roles, in Michael Pena's (laptop keyboard won't let me type his name correctly) case having watched the show with his own children; while others were likely great actors, but missed the mark on their characters. And all because they were trying to market interest in a movie that failed, despite its cast and writing. Likely because of the casting and writing in some occasions. This isn't me hating on anyone involved, this is me making an observation on the failure's of a movie that I still love despite its failures.
Ugh, this again. Much like the LEGO Batman Movie, The LEGO Ninjago Movie is a spin off to the LEGO Movie. It wasn’t an adaptation of the Ninjago series, it was a parody of the Ninjago series much like the LEGO Batman Movie. So of course the actors were changed. As for the movie’s failure. It failed because not only the LEGO Batman Movie came out, but it also started to make anyone feel unintrested of the LEGO Movie and in turn, started to make the LEGO Movie series, go on decline… which got worse when the LEGO Movie 2 flopped.
James Cordon hasn’t been in any voice acting projects from what I’ve recalled. Seth Rogen has been a good producer on some animated projects, such as last year’s Ninja Turtles movie and Invincible but as an actor it’s just him playing him. Really though… the only actors who’s been typecasted in these animated projects are just Awkwafina and Chris Pratt.
You know what, that's actually a good pick. Especially if Bill Murray or Frank Welker were to play Garfield's father as a bit of a "passing of the torch" to him, got nothing against Samuel L. Jackson, thought they would be better fits IMO
The thing is that if companies just hired regular, non a-list celebrity actors, not only could they pay them a livable wage, but they could also pay the animators and writers more to help improve the animation
That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking. You pay everyone and give them an appropriate amount of time, I’m sure they’ll come out with banger movies that audiences will want to see. I think other countries do this better than the US does.
It's hard for VA. These greedy companies use celebrities to get their audiences to pay more to fill their pockets. And sonce Ai is advancing at such an alarming rate. These companies are gonna use it for cheaper prices. This is sad for people who want to spread their talent.
J.K. Simmons, Mark Hammel, Jack Black can do both acting and voice acting. I wish they did a blind script read with 1 celebrity voice and 5 voice actors. And then picked from there.
The reason why a lot of movies, like “The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023)” and “Borderlands (2024)” have big name actors is because there’s a saying in Hollywood that if you don’t have A-list actors, you have little chance of distribution. So, knowing that you have little chance of distribution if your movie doesn't have A-list actors, why do people still hate movies for having A-list celebrities if that's literally the only way you get distribution from big companie
@@AarnaAmbardar-n5dA recent example of this, like just yesterday, is Joaquin Phoenix backing out as the lead of a gay romance leading to the production being cancelled 5 days before beginning filming because of lack of a main and investor pull out
What they need to do is stop fucking hiring AAA celebrities to voice characters in movies. They need to hire actual voice actors or they need to get some new people who’ve never been given a chance. The fact that they just hire people for “Star power” is so fucking annoying and shows how well the movie can stand on its own, just look at Borderlands. They have a gross amount of Star power just for the movie to flop. They spent more money on the celebrities then the actual fucking movie. And then, on top of that like anime, they keep using like the same 5 fucking voice actors for everything and it gets really fucking annoying when you’re trying to watch anime. Oh hey, that’s the voice of Natsu for the 50th time. It feels like a lot of this stems from the great work Robin Williams did in the Aladdin movie. I know a lot of this is in the video, but it just feels so fucking good to hear other people finally say it, because I’ve been saying this for years.
yep. one recent example of this is chris pratt. although i think he is a very good celebrity. he tried to actually sound like mario in the super mario bros movie. than a year later the garfield movie comes out and he doesn't even try to sound like him. he just sounds like himself in that movie compared to bill murray who actually tried to sound like him in the live action version.

Keith David is incredible. I met him in person at a movie theater back in the early 2000's while Disney's Gargoyles were going on. He was incognito and just had a friend, so I didn't hound him much. Watching The Princess and the Frog, Princess Mononoke, HBO's Spawn were all amazing. He does so much and I still love catching his new stuff while still watching Gargoyles to this day.
I went to a fan festival yesterday where they had a panel called, “you voiced my childhood”. And I was amazed that we are familiar with their characters, but not recognize them by their real life faces. And it was interesting how they discussed what it was like either being a person of color in the industry or a woman in the industry. One actor mentioned how she was assigned to mimic Angela Lansbury and perfected it, but they cut her at the last second and hired someone younger. While the new person did well, she didn’t voice Angela Lansbury at her current age which meant it wasn’t authentic. The reason behind it is Lansbury couldn’t travel to set so they asked someone to step in for her. While companies are trying to be more diverse, it sucks that they have to keep fighting for basic human decency and pay. Now I know why we pay for autographs. The irony is fans are willing to pay their favorite celebrities and 40 or 50 dollars does not break the bank for most people. I just find it sad, yet happy, that fans are willing to financially support their favorite voice actors (mostly when they are nice and authentic) than their employers. I was happy to meet and get the autograph of someone who voiced a few of our favorite villains, Malificient, Cruella, and Lady Tremaine. She even did Madame Leotta from the haunted mansion. I feel bad that I never put a face to the voice until now. On the panel, she was funny, sweet, and supported the other voice actors on the panel. The other two VAs were the same way too. I hope they had better experiences in the industry at present because most celebrities in Hollywood deserve better.
Exactly! I just wish we had more variety in voices. Heck, I don't care if it's only Chris Pratt playing the characters, I just wish he was making unique original voices for each one! Chris playing Mario and Garfield has ruined my image for him doing anymore VA, only because they sounded exactly like him. No originality at all, not even an imitation to pay respects to their actual VAs.
@@WolfTrot Chris Meledandri said Pratt would not be voicing Mario in a thick Italian accent as Martinet had traditionally done. Instead they wanted the Mario bros to have Brooklyn accents.

while we're at it, Toronto VAs deserve better gigs than mediocre kids' shows and hackdubs. Remember when they did voices in old Capcom games like Resident Evil 2, Mega Man Legends, and the original Devil May Cry? Remember when Toei commissioned THEM to dub Slam Dunk, Air Master and Interlude uncut? Remember how deep X-Men TAS was? X-Men '97 is a good start but they don't use any VAs from up north outside the original cast which leads me to believe they simply flew them from Toronto to LA as with the Spider-Man crossover back in the 90s. s/o Eddie Glen, Scott McCord, Robert Tinkler, Lyon Smith, Joe Motiki, Martin Roach, Dan Petronijevic, Christian Potenza, Peter Oldring, Jonathan Wilson, Jamie Watson, Dwayne Hill, Cal Dodd, George Buza, Lawrence Bayne, Tony Daniels, Adrian Hough, Richard Waugh, Neil Crone, Alison Sealy-Smith, Alyson Court, Catherine Disher, Lenore Zann, Terri Hawkes, Linda Ballantyne, Stephanie Morgenstern, Susan Roman, Katie Griffin, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Tracy Ryan, Caroly Larson, Sugar Lyn Beard, Novie Edwards, Megan Fahlenbock, Stacey DePass, Sarah LaFleur, Jonathan Tan, Sean Cullen, Cory Doran, and many of the other VAs that gave the 6ix its signature sound as well as to the departed legends like Norm Spencer, Paul Haddad, David Hemblen, Kirsten Bishop, Mark Dailey, Harvey Atkin, Don Francks, Len Carlson, Chris Wiggins, Paul Soles, Billie Mae Richards and Bernard Cowan. but fuck Robert Norman Smith, he was a vile p3do.
And don't forget that most of the time, the characters are designed to resemble the celebrities voicing them, which in some cases can look amazing, like the Genie looking like Robin Williams, and the we got things like Oscar from Shark Tale looking like Will Smith to an unsettling degree
It really doesn't anymore. At first it was a marketing drive, a headline grab. Now its so bastardized celebrities have become the norm and nobody cares. It doesn't draw anything other than a article for day.
A.I. taking jobs talk always raises one question for me; when all the jobs are gone, how are the consumers going to buy anything? And are the corporate types really short-sighted enough to not see that? Which I doubt, so what am I missing?
Because corporations like most human beings are short-sighted, it's as much profits as possible right this instance. Same thing why we absolutely failed in preventing global warming, unchecked consumerism and corporations whom literally race to exploit as much available land and resources as quick as possible, all done in the name of gaining as much profits as possible within the shortest amount of time rather than future long-term.
my problem with A-list celebrities voicing animated charcaters is that they're just the actor's voice, nothing else. So other characters they've voiced all just sound the same. They're playing themselves, not the character.
I can't stop emphasising how grateful I am that the Warner Bros. movie "Storks" allowed Katie Crown (a.k.a. Izzy from "Total Drama) to voice the deuteragonist, Tulip, even though she was originally brought on to provide scratch tracks. I almost thought the character was played by Kristen Wiig when I saw it in theaters! What's even more amazing about this is that Katie isn't even much of a household name compared to, say, fellow Canadian Cree Summer (who also got a W herself when she starred alongside Michael J. Fox in "Atlantis: The Lost Empire")! Then again, Katie was also a pretty successful comedian who had connections with folks like Paul F. Tompkins and Conan O'Brien. Also just a little correction, Saber: Casey Kasem was still alive when Matthew Lillard took over the role of Shaggy. In fact, Casey was the voice of Shaggy's dad in "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Inc.". He died a year after the cancellation of "Mystery Inc."
I still believe that RoosterTeeth hiring David Tenant, Michael B. Jordan, and several other big names is a large part why their animation collapsed in on itself, along with general mismanagement. They had a whole crew of talented VAs they'd been using for years, and still went for big names when they started a new project
And that's why Red vs Blue died _still_ being their best project ever. Of all time. The only celebrity actor I can think of was Elijah Wood and that's because he WANTED to be there, and he also did a fine fucking job.
And honestly, Gen Lock was one of Rooster Teeth's weakest animated series in my opinion. I remember the acting feeling stilted at best and boring at worst. Shows like RWBY and Camp Camp did have some professional voice actors from the industry as well as members of their own company and those shows had more heart.
When a company goes public and expands, you're often held mercy to your shareholders and investors. A lot of those casting decision are likely threats from investors saying "if you want me to give you a million dollars, one of my conditions is having a say in how your things are produced"... and thus the cycle begins.
OMG I literally JUST had this convo as part of a podcaste I edit. Fans used to be able to meet VAs at 1 of my local cons for free before covid. The con took care of the price and still kept the entry fee low. After covid you have to pay to meet anyone and most of them have booths in the Alley where they're selling their things too so you can't just stop and chat I vividly remember getting an autograph from the VA for Italy (Hetalia) while he was on the way to his booth because I was part of the cosplay contest so I couldn't wait in line and we happened to pass in the hallway. There was no need for a money exchange. Not only that but he completely understood and was extremely happy about doing it. In terms of the AI thing I have a lot of thoughts. I feel like if you literally only need 1-2 short lines it's fine to use AS LONG AS you aren't using the fact that that 1 line is the AI of a famous person/character as a selling point. It should be easter egg statues. If you need actual work done. An actual conversation or really anything over that 1-2 lines should be paid for I also like the idea of after someone is dead their voice can live on in that role, but it NEEDS to be a case of the family/estate of that person still receives payment for the use of that voice or roll
Sounds like a bad convention. I've been to quite a few over the years and none of them have had a pay to meet someone. The closest to that is for a guaranteed slot at a photoshoot with really big actors(Jason Mamoa, Giancarlo Esposito, etc.)
This makes me so, so sad. I really want to have a voice acting job someday, but at this rate thats not going to happen. most of the jobs I have ever wanted are being replaced by AI. I wanted to be an artist. AI. I wanted to be a storyboard artist. AI animation. I want to be a voice actor. Nope AI voices. What the HELL am i supposed to do now??? I cant even do most jobs because of burnout relating to my disability. Big corporations are sucking the creativity out of literally EVERYTHING!!
In the era where the AI will become smarter overtime, being generalist might be a ideal situation in my opinion, but you can use the AI as the source of your inspiration or as your assistent.
Fun fact: In Mexico, celebrities outside the world of dubbing or voice acting are known as startalents. There are those who do a great job, but most are a disaster when it comes to voicing a character. What's funny about this animated voice acting downturn is that video games figured out a long time ago that big celeb names do absolutely nothing for the quality of the story, and in fact trying to emulate live action movies made them worse. The mediums are inherently different and so too does the acting style have to be different, and in fact the best recent example of an actual A list celebrity crushing it in a video game role was by someone who is often thought of as a stiff, rangeless actor on the big screen, Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand. Animated studios are just repeating the same mistakes the much younger medium of video games already learned from years ago. It almost seems like a form of self-deprecation, not recognizing animation as its own legitimate artform and a perfect storytelling medium, so you have to fix it by either A. Giviing animated stories live action remakes or B. Forcing hollywood actors and tropes and directing styles into animation. Like, Jimmy Kimmel to keeps making jokes about kids voting for the animated Oscar category anymore, so it must be The Boy and The Heron that's wrong and not Jimmy being out of touch.
100% when I want to play a video game, I want to play a video GAME & I LOVE cartoons, so seeing all these recent games desperately trying to look live-action because of executives seeing that was the way to go can feel like the animation age ghetto is being forced mega hard over there as well.

I work as a celebrity handler for John Patrick Lowrie, Ellen McLain, Dennis Bateman, and Gary Schwartz. If you don't recognize their names, I don't blame you. But they are the voices behind Team Fortress 2. Valve still brings a few of them for more work occasionally, but not nearly the same frequency as they used to when TF2 was actively being updated. All of them are just barely living comfortably, despite being the voices of arguably some of the biggest characters in Valve's library. When 15 AI came out and the mercs from TF2 were one of the first characters to be mimicked successfully, my heart broke for the VAs behind those characters. They are more than happy to continue voicing these characters for Valve or potentially even fan projects. But with AI taking their voices first, it's been difficult. The reason why a lot of movies, like “The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023)” and “Borderlands (2024)” have big name actors is because there’s a saying in Hollywood that if you don’t have A-list actors, you have little chance of distribution.

Because "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return" doesn't have any A-list celebrities, therefore none of the big name studios wanted to distribute the film, which is why it was distributed by Clarius Entertainment, therefore it BOMBED in the box office.

The sad thing is, the target audience of these movies is usually children who aren't going to care about celebrities as much.
Also need to catch the attention of the parents.
It's not about convincing the audience. It's about convincing the investors. Some production companies and/or individuals are like "you want $20M from us? Then we have a say in choosing the cast or you don't get our money."

True, like they need to be a vocal talent, not just an actor. Because for them it's just reading off a script.
Mark Hamill comes to mind
I think Jack Black has made the same transition that Robin Williams and Alan Tudyk have made. They’re people who have earned the right to say they’re both kinds of actors. Williams breathed life into animated characters. Tudyk is so good at both subtle and drastic voice manipulation that you have to admit he tricked you in Wreck-It-Ralph. And Black has demonstrated that he can both transform his voice and bring nuance to goofy characters just with sound bites.
Jack Black CAN do the work and transform his voice, but sadly he is also to lazy to do so most the time. Either that or the studio demands he do the Jack Black voice for marketing purposes.

it's funny how it's the polar opposite in Japan, were some VA are actually more of a celebrity than tv/movie actors, I mean it helps a lot their entertainment industry is more based on anime, animated movies and video games, but still the contrast is baffling.
Yeah but have you seen those sjws and japan controversies since the 2020's decade? Because that's why i want to save japan from this.

Yet no one was bothered by the recast for the LEGO Batman Movie.
@@Beth4nythat’s because the LEGO Ninjago Movie was a spin off to the LEGO Movie that was released in 2017 (Back when Kirby Morrow was alive).
@ShockwaveFPSStudios duh doi!
Ugh. I remember when the German VA role for Saphira in the Eragon movie was given to ... Nena. Yes, the 99 Luftballons Nena. It was very much crap.
I can see a world where tiktokers take over celeb roles and at that point I just won’t see animated movies anymore. LOL

Did Frank Welker get a cameo at least?!

The reason why a lot of movies, like “The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023)” and “Borderlands (2024)” have big name actors is because there’s a saying in Hollywood that if you don’t have A-list actors, you have little chance of distribution.
That's one of the reasons why the people behind "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return" got sued.
ecause "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return" doesn't have any A-list celebrities, therefore none of the big name studios wanted to distribute the film, which is why it was distributed by Clarius Entertainment, therefore it BOMBED in the box office.
So, knowing that you have little chance of distribution if your movie doesn't have A-list actors, why do people still hate movies for having A-list celebrities if that's literally the only way you get distribution from big companies?
or at the very least celebrities who are good voice acting.
@@AarnaAmbardar-n5d no i can tell you the big difference between borderlands and the super mario bros movie. with borderlands if you look that up you will see that the movie went through 10 years of development hell and is just failing as we speak. with the super mario bros movie illumination and nintendo worked on that project together and thats why it was successful. as for the triple aaa celebrity distributing thing. its just that yes you do need to have some to distribute movies but only a few celebrities not every single aaa star needs to be on a single project
@@jadenbryant9283 Mark Hamill, Keith David, Ron Perlman, etc.
What’s ruining voice acting is that Chris Pratt and Awkwafina are being cast as every role
The Day Robin William Died R.I.P you legend
A celebrity voice casting that was just perfect for the part. His improv worked beautifully with Disney’s animation (the artists had to work with 14+ hours of Robin’s material to animate the various impressions) & utilized Robin Williams’s comedic talents
He does so much and I still love catching his new stuff while still watching Gargoyles to this day.
clonemyvoice AI fixes this (AI Voice Actors). Hollywood doesn't care about voice acting.
Does it clone Voice Actors voices or is it just for hollywood celebrities?
I hope they had better experiences in the industry at present because most celebrities in Hollywood deserve better.
they arent hiring celebrities to be voice actors, theyre hiring celebrities to be themselves.
@@orangeslash1667 Yeah, and we got Chris Pratt trying (and failing) to impersonate someone from Brooklyn instead
@@xXMkThunderXx Miyamoto confirmed that Popeye was the biggest inspiration for Mario, so it's not out of character for Mario to have a slightly deeper voice.
@@WolfTrotDo you really want Mario to do tons of grunts and catchphrases throughout the entire movie over an hour and 30 minutes? Cause it seems like you want it back. Who knows that made this decision whether it’s Universal, or Hollywood, or the directors themselves when it comes to casting.
while we're at it, Toronto VAs deserve better gigs than mediocre kids' shows and hackdubs. Remember when they did voices in old Capcom games like Resident Evil 2, Mega Man Legends, and the original Devil May Cry? Remember when Toei commissioned THEM to dub Slam Dunk, Air Master and Interlude uncut? Remember how deep X-Men TAS was?
X-Men '97 is a good start but they don't use any VAs from up north outside the original cast which leads me to believe they simply flew them from Toronto to LA as with the Spider-Man crossover back in the 90s.

but fuck Robert Norman Smith, he was a vile p3do.
Can't believe casting celebrities actually works. Whenever I see cast lists on posters I have no idea who any of them are
And don't forget that most of the time, the characters are designed to resemble the celebrities voicing them, which in some cases can look amazing, like the Genie looking like Robin Williams, and the we got things like Oscar from Shark Tale looking like Will Smith to an unsettling degree

Atp all of these "Whats Ruining ___" have the same answer
Big Corporate want money
Critical Role and Team Four Star got me to really appreciate and learn more about the world of voice acting
my problem with A-list celebrities voicing animated charcaters is that they're just the actor's voice, nothing else.

After covid you have to pay to meet anyone and most of them have booths in the Alley where they're selling their things too so you can't just stop and chat
I vividly remember getting an autograph from the VA for Italy (Hetalia) while he was on the way to his booth because I was part of the cosplay contest so I couldn't wait in line and we happened to pass in the hallway.
An actual conversation or really anything over that 1-2 lines should be paid for
I also like the idea of after someone is dead their voice can live on in that role, but it NEEDS to be a case of the family/estate of that person still receives payment for the use of that voice or roll
@@AdityaDwiKusuma1646 i feel like ai can be used for inspiration and thats fine, but it shouldnt be the sole creator of a piece of media
Fun fact: In Mexico, celebrities outside the world of dubbing or voice acting are known as startalents. There are those who do a great job, but most are a disaster when it comes to voicing a character. Even big production companies hire some UA-camrs. And for the Mexican dubbing of Transformers One they hired a singer with no dubbing experience to dub Megatron, and that is nothing compared to the one who will voice Bumblebee, who has been accused of having s3xu4lly 4bus3d two minors.
Yeah, at least Optimus is going to be dubbed by Chris Hemsworth's usual dub voice actor, Andrés Gutiérrez Coto. I don't know why the Latin American divisions of Hollywood studios like Universal, Sony Pictures and Paramount hire celebrities, singers or UA-camrs, especially seeing how movies like Super Mario Bros. and Inside Out 2 became huge hits in Latin America, despite it dubs not featuring any celebrities
@@pablocasas5906Although it does feel unusual that Elita who is now voiced by Dafne Gallardo (who is a dubbing voice actor) isn’t voiced by Rosalba Sotelo, who is the recurring voice for Scarlett Johansson in Latin America and one of the few not voiced by Rosalba the other being Ash in the Sing franchise.
@@EmilioGarcía-m9eWholeheartedly agreed with dubs done in Mexico I’m just noticing lately perhaps since the mid-1990’s and especially during the mid-late 2000’s and 2010’s, I noticed that the majority of the animated films from either Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, DreamWorks Animation and Illumination have had a habit on having Startalents in literally *EVERY ANIMATED MOVIE* dub especially in the case with Illumination and DreamWorks Animation, DC League of Super-Pets from Warner Bros. and the new Garfield animated movie from Sony where have a habit on casting 2-4 or at most 6-8 Startalents, and most of the Startalents just range from a mix of Comedians, Celebrities, Theater Actors, Singers and lately UA-camrs throughout the Latin American market (e.g. Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Chile), and I tend to get peeved and baffled why UA-camrs and influencers are getting cast in most animated movies dubs in Spanish.🤦🏻
I think it’s worth mentioning that with the Disney Animation and especially the Pixar films when they use Startalents for the Latin American dubs they aren’t as aggressive compared to say DreamWorks Animation and Illumination who mostly use 3-4 or at most 6-8+ Startalents and from the 26 Walt Disney Animation Studios films (except Encanto which had 9-10 Startalents; _Hercules, Home on the Range, Ralph Breaks the Internet_ and _Wish_ which had 3 Startalents) and the 21 Pixar films (except _Incredibles 1-2_ which had 3-4 Startalents, Coco which had 10-15 Startalents, and the Cars films which had 3-5 Startalents) that utilize Startalents they normally use 1 or 2 Startalents in their dubs with most of the Startalents that appear in the Disney Animation and Pixar films being cast in either in the leading, minor or supporting roles, particularly the latter two for the most part and they usually range from famous Comedians, Celebrities, Theater Actors, or Singers with a few of these actors who voiced the character in the original English version of the Disney or Pixar film also reprise their roles in the Spanish dub of the film due to their ethnicity (Gael Garcia Bernal in _Coco;_ Genesis Rodriguez in _Big Hero 6)._
So far, only _Aladdin, Hercules, Tarzan, Atlantis, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, Chicken Little, Bolt, Tangled, Raya and the Last Dragon, Encanto_ and _Wish_ were the *ONLY* Disney Animated films where the main protagonist is voiced by a Startalent, whereas with Pixar, only _The Incredibles 1-2, Cars 1-3,_ and _Coco_ had their main protagonist(s) be voiced by a Startalent.
