    The 3.5L V6 Ecoboost Engine is in a lot of Ford & Lincoln's most popular vehicles. However, there are some important things you must know before purchasing one of their vehicles if they possess this particular engine. I have had a lot of issues with my 2015 Lincoln Navigator L and most of those issues are engine related. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on this vehicle if you buy one. As a matter of fact, my next door neighbor bought a 2012 F-150 in order to avoid the V6 Ecoboost.

    I am on my 4th 3.5 F150 since they came out 10 years ago. 200000 plus on each. Only minor normal problems on each.

    F150. 3.5 ecoboost 2013 just hit 229000 miles oil change spark plugs and a o2 sensor, that's all I have replaced
    Great truck king ranch 👌 purchased for 16000$ with 162000 mile 3 years ago.
    No regrets

      I love hearing positive stories like this! I truly feel like I have a lemon or at lease a vehicle that was mistreated during the 37,000 miles it was driven before I purchased it.

      The problem exists on naturally aspirated engines as well as eco-boost with the turbos I have a 3.59 turbo to F150 with cam phaser issues, so all new Ford engines all have variable cam phasers.

    I have a '15 Expedition Platinum with 124,000km on it and it has a seized engine. The 3.5L Ecoboost installed is roughly $17k up here in Canada. I was getting camshaft censor codes but I could never get the code to repeat under the same circumstances, figured it was an electrical bug. Literally parked it one night and the check engine light was not on, next morning went to start it with command start and it would not start, went into the truck to start and check engine light was on.

      Ugh! I'm really sorry to hear this. So many mixed reviews about these Ecoboost engines. Not sure what I'd do in your situation. Sometimes, I really want to trade mine in, but I know that would not be wise in my situation, so it looks like I'm stuck with mine for at least another year or two.

    Turbo problems with the 3.5 is this. The PVC values dump straight into the turbos. Raw oil vapor into the air intake of the turbos. Only way to stop it is putting on oil catch cans. Say you do it. Say something isn't tight enough and you blow the code. Get a code reader that will also erase the code until you get it wright. Way cheaper then replacing the turbos and going to a dealer to erase codes. That is my personal experience with my 3.5. The driver side turbo was starting to rattle. My experience is. The drive side one is a second dary turbo. Manly used on higher rpms. The passenger side will start first then the driver side picks up afterward. Means. More pressure is in the driver side. Yet. Being the lesser used. The oil build up is greater. Oil catch cans. Yet. On something that is new or newer. The damage is done on older engines and turbos.

    I am there w/u. I took my 2014 MKT 3.5 ecoboost w/Turbo Livery grade. It worked great for 180k miles and dealer told me I needed a new engine for $13k, I took it to a 'Shadetree 'Mexico mechanic in Doraville , GA . He replaced my Timing chain and H20 pump for $650 + $300 , oil change. I drove it for 40k miles more and now I need a Power Take off Unit(transfer case) and perhaps a rear differential.

      @j2review  9 місяців тому

      I really appreciate you sharing your story! I also took my Navigator to a guy in Doraville earlier this year and he was able to buy me more time with my transmission by simply changing the fluid and filter, as shown in more recent videos. It's time for me to upgrade but with the cost of these vehicles rapidly rising and the volatile transportation industry, I feel paralyzed. FYI, they are giving 2020 Lincoln Continentals away these days because they're not SUVs

      Nor should you. The V8 is definitely the way to go. My next door neighbor has a truck like yours. When I told him that we basically have the same vehicle, he said, "Actually, I have the V8, which is far more reliable than your V6 Ecoboost - Sorry to give you the bad news".

      Does your have a top end ticking or clunking noise at idle? We have a couple at work that do it and it sounds like a rod knock. Once it revs up just a little it goes away. Apparently normal but very annoying.

    Really the issue is the early second gen 3.5 post 2016 minus the vct rattle which is usually covered under a recall or extended service. They really get their shit together only things we usually do are the vcts and valve covers. But thats on the f150/navigator/expedition. The FWD ones are super different and i don't really see to many of those. It's usually ac lines in the explorer or some suspension concern but the fwd variants don't usually have to many problems

    • @j2review
      @j2review  2 роки тому

      Yeah, those were some good times indeed. And that pic I took of our vehicles was taken at one of the most expensive gas stations in town. BP is always 40 to 50 cents above the rest here in Atlanta. For this reason, I would only go there if I were seriously about to run out of gasoline. Current price here today is $4.19 at our local discount gas stations, such as QT and Racetrac but Costco is selling for $3.59.

    I am cautiously optmistic that the 3.5L and 3.5L ecoboost made after 2017 are better. This is because the port injection was added to the direct injection in 2017. This helps with valves being carboned up. But it says a lot that I own Toyotas. Come on Ford, get it together!

    This man absolutely right Ford 3.5 is a nightmare people might say it can last 300k miles but ask how much repair they did on it how much money they invested into the engine i have a explorer and I'm done with this thing

  • @ArtStamos
    @ArtStamos 8 місяців тому +1

    Well i belive oil changes are crucial for those engines, for brakes use Akebono fleet pads, $5000 is still cheaper then Toyota, infinity looks good but essentially they stretched a smaller suv so eronomics are all wierd and suv sits funny on the inside, not defending Fords just saying they all got issues.

  • @gbass7328

    That Ford diagnostics may have been dependent on the FORScan system they employ for all of their cars. 50k miles would be under the powertrain warranty so don't know why you had to pay for anything for motor related repair @ Ford. Buy and then sell right @ warranty end.

    I just bought a 2015 Lincoln Nav' with the 3'5 and 79,000 miles and I just got a check engine light, my tester showed the P-0432 and P-0430, I think' sensors on bank 2 where bad. I changed them out and got rid of the engine check lite but it came back on in about 30 miles. I was going to let the local repair shop work on it, but after watching your video and giving it a second thought myself about taking it to the local Lincoln dealer' about 30 miles away. Thanks for the info'

      I really wish I had better news. The way Ford/Lincoln blocks do-it-yourselfers from saving themselves thousands of dollars is unnerving to say the least. This particular problem had to ultimately be sorted out by the dealership. I have videos covering all of this. I would love to save you time and tell you exactly what needs to be done in this response, but I can't keep up with all of the problems I've had with this vehicle. I'm currently dealing with a turbo coolant line leak that the dealer quoted me $4,300 to fix.

    I have spent $20,000 in 5 years fixing my Lincoln mkt. Most unfathomable engine ever designed. Not even dealers can figure out what's wrong when they won't go.
    The head has bern off twice; timing chain issues twice; new transmisdion, new power steering, another part of the transmission ( it seems there are two transmissipns for a 4WD) new half shafts , new fuel pump (there are 3and you have to remove bodywork to get at them) and the car has only done 140000 miles, Give FORD a miss, period.
    TESLA is the only way to go but if you have to have a gasoline car TOYOTA is touted to be reliable.
    In the US it seems manufacturers are not held to account for design flaws.
    There needs to be more class action lawsuits to hold their feet to the fire.

    • @j2review
      @j2review  8 місяців тому

      First of all, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your misfortune with your Mkt! I'm going on 215,000 miles right now, but as you well see, it hasn't been without a great deal of heartache. I'm in a really bad position right now because it's time for me to upgrade but my business might not support another vehicle that costs over $40,000. Yes, you can find 3 or 4-year-old Navigators for around that price but they have close to 100,000 miles on them. I agree with you about Toyota and have flirted with adding a Toyota Highlander, Land Cruiser, as well as, a Lexus 460L and LX600 to our fleet. However, getting everyone on board with my decisions has proven to be major struggle. Part of my struggle actually comes from taking a huge risk and trying to use a Tesla in the limousine business. The Model X was loved and hated by my clients, but more hated, so I miraculously sold it back in 2018. I have hinted about my experience on this channel but I've been worried about dealing with Tesla haters and or rabid fanboys. I have another channel that documented my Tesla ownership experience: www.youtube.com/@StrictlyTesla
