  • SO.. YOU want to get into TATTOOING PORTRAITS? Well so did I and here is my process of learning to tattoo portraits. First thing is to make and learn to read a stencil. Your stencil is the most important part of the process and learning to read and understand the stencil is key. Once you have the stencil made I find it best to print the stencil on paper and try to render the piece with pencils or your choice of medium. Once you feel confident in your ability then try it out on fake skin. Once that turns out great its best to keep practicing this process to build your confidence as confidence is key to success on the skin. This is all just my process and my opinions on how you can get into this process. I want to thank Andy B for pushing me and asking me to make a video about this process as I have learned a lot!
    Hope you all enjoyed the video and if you did give it up a thumbs up and consider subscribing!!
    I like to remind people that In no way am I a fantastic tattoo artist guys. I just love tattooing but I am still on my journey and want to show you how its done so you can do it and do it better then me!! 🤘

    Honestly the best advice I’ve heard! I’m just getting into the world of portraits from doing traditional tattoos mainly! I always get confused on how to map out my stencil, I always think do I stencil the highlights, dark tones or both. I think I’m over thinking it, but this video has helped so much!

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  2 роки тому +3

      I deff understand what your talking about as when I started making detailed stencils I also was unsure if I wanted to detail the darks the lights or both. Now I just realized that I need to detail or stencil the parts of piece that will help me render it in the end. Its just a road map and everyone may have a slightly different one. Glad the video helped you Ellie and I wish you the best as you start to get into Portraits!! You got this and Keep Rocking!!🤘

    My friend wants me to tattoo a black & grey portrait of his English bulldog on him- I've been practicing for about a year and a half & I've tattooed his pup on reelskin a few times but because the ink doesn't heal on reelskin, it comes out too dark even using one drop so I'm nervous to tattoo him. It'll be my first tattoo on someone so I think I should just go for it & trust the greywash system.
    I'm glad you mentioned it in the video how even the one drop is too dark on fake skin. I think I'm going to tattoo the shades on my leg so I know exactly how they'll look healed. A living reference chart! Until I am dead of course. Then I won't be able to use it anymore. Well, maybe.

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  2 роки тому +2

      I think its awesome that you already practiced it a few times on fake skin. I wish you the best of luck brother! If you feel confident then go for it man I know you will come out of it learning a LOT. And as I know its great to have a healed reference of what your washes will look like. I hope you kill it bro! 🤘

    That bleach trick is amazing! I have the cheaper 3mm thick fake skin that I couldn't get the stencil off so I thought they were a lost cause. Once I recieved my Reelskin in the mail & saw the bleach remedy on the instructions, I soaked all the fake skins I tattooed that the stencil was still visible & the ones I changed my mind & couldn't get the stencil off- 24 hours & the stencil just goes away!

    What voltage were you running? More detail means lower voltage for slower hand speed... Correct?

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  2 роки тому +1

      I think I was around 8 volts for this tattoo. And more detail doesnt exactly mean slower hand speed and les voltage. It means each mark you make matters even more then usual so take your time and make sure each mark is the best you can do and is in the correct spot. Sometimes we can get in a rush or at least I know I can as I really want to get to the end cause I want to see the finished piece but in most cases like this its best to just take your time and let it work itself out. Great question as the hair is the most painful part of the process lol. I will try to do a video about tattooing hair the more I get into it. Best simple advice is slow down take your time. Thanks David appreciate the support! 🤘🙏

    Do you soak faks skin in water or some solution? Greetings from Poland 🤘🏻

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  2 роки тому +2

      No I dont soak them in anything. I use some Isopropyl alcohol to clean the skins first then let dry and apply the stencil. Once im done with the tattoo I then soak the skin in Bleach over night to get the stencil to go away. Thank you for the support from Poland Dominik!!🤘🙏🤘

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  2 роки тому +2

      Be patient as you get better tattooing and more comfortable with your needles and what not you will be able to take the skills you have on paper and translate them to skin with needles but this process can take some time so dont rush just keep working hard and keep your head up!! God Bless you brother and Keep Rocking!!🤘🙏🤘🙏

    Is it possible to be a "tattoo artist" without being an "artist"? Basically can you be good tattoo artist and not be good at drawing?

    • @flatbedtruckertmc
      @flatbedtruckertmc 2 роки тому +1

      Awesome job by the way. This question has absolutely nothing to do with your talent.

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  2 роки тому +2

      I suppose you can. Im not one to discourage people from trying new things or tattooing for that matter as long as they are being safe with it. With that said you will have a MUCH harder time finding your way in tattooing if you dont know how to draw or understand shading and what have you. Because once you learn "how" to tattoo then the art ability has to come through in order to really get anywhere. I would heavily encourage you to start drawing before you spend the time and money on all the equipment. With UA-cam you can learn so much as there are MANY videos that will help you learn to draw and shade and what not. DEFF take the time to study and learn that side first cause if your serious about wanting to tattoo then this would be step one. Hope this helps answer your question Brian and thank you for asking the question. 🤘🤘
