Dumbing him down to hype up the anime is so dumb. People lack reading comprehension and it's nuts how much people miss when they spam A through all the dialogue. Leon in the games also felt the heavy weight of being the champion, of being responsible for the safety of everyone in Galar. He was the first champion to tell the player who is a child, to step back and let the adults handle these matters. To run to safety so he can deal with it. And when you defeat him he feels relief. You can tell how relieved he is to no longer be the champion, to finally be defeated. He didn't genuinely revel in being unbeatable, he hated it. He wanted to lose. He wanted to feel the weight and responsibility of being champion lifted from his shoulders, so when you took it from him, he was happy. Not just for you, but for himself. Leon was also encouraging of Hop when Hop was coming to terms with the fact that he didnt need to chase after his brothers shadow, when Hop told him he wanted to be a professor. I never watched the anime, but this is everything i learned about Leon just from playing the game. He isnt even my favorite character in the games, so there are no rose tinted glasses here.
You could have also caught a Charmander inside a raid den during the first part of the game. That way, you have a Charizard later. As for the starter, Grookey would have been a better choice since you will eventually get a Seismitoad later.
did you miss the entire intro? leon's 6th pokémon depends on which starter he has. he only gets seismitoad if he has scorbunny. if he has grookey, he gets a rhyperior instead.
I really love this game tbh it's great the only thing I wish it had was more open areas like vass field wise to just walk around. Kinda wish Violet and Scarlett was like Sword and Shield

honestly disappointing that the animators kept the rest Leon's team to Galar Pokemon. his final canon team was Cinderace inteleon Mr.Rime Dragapult(from vs Diantha) Rillaboom(from vs Alain) Charizard(ace)
So charmander should have been picked up early game so confused on why his ace was the last one to catch. Kinda disappointed and disgusted. Isle of Armor gives you access to one early game.

Not gonna lie. I like Leon significantly more in the anime compared to the game. He has more personality besides "Im unbeatable! Ha!"

The anime has a lot more time to focus on the character development. The games geared to be more focused on your character and rival if anything.
