The secret to the best tuna fish sandwich - Розваги
Yes! Subway was my first job, from ages 15 to 18. The Subway tuna is legit just tuna and mayo. It's more like tuna spread, but people love it! I remember squeezing as much water from the tuna as possible, opening those big bags of mayo, and making batches of it. Those were the days!
Love Subway tuna!
@@cremebrulee4759 I used to love it, too. It's very good with all of the fixins. I put everything on my sandwich except bell peppers. I don't think I'd like it plain, though. Too bland.
I was a manager at 3 different Subways. The secret to ours was good tuna in a pouch, not canned. All liquid removed and tuna broken up fine with gloved hands. Then it's a 2:1 ratio of lite mayo. Most of the time they don't measure. You can just tell when it's enough mayonnaise. More tuna than mayo. Then let sit in a cold place for tuna to absorb moisture from mayo.
Sounds a lot more realistic than 1:1. Thanks!
@Alisa were the packs of tuna chuck light or albacore?
I worked Subway in the early 90s and yeah, even back then it was a 1:1 tuna:mayo ratio and you tried to swerve towards drier rather than mushy. If customers wanted more mayo they'd just ask for it.
The Chicago Bears training camp was near us in the summer and players would come in to order sandwiches in the evening, one guy loved a tuna sandwich with "as much olives as you could put on it" which basically meant emptying the olive container on the sandwich.

I've had way better tuna sandwiches and make a way better tuna sandwiche than other deli got my recipe from a burger joint in LA CA plus the best tuna sandwich I ever had was actually from PCC in Pasadena CA I can't enough of those sandwiches
FYI: When using vinegar and oil on anything ALWAYS add the vinegar first. It will flavor the other ingredients. Adding the oil first coats them with the oil so the vinegar just beads up and rolls off.
Excellent point.
Markwakeley3835 ....👍 You took the words out of mouth👍
Thank you!! I just made a salad yesterday using red wine vinegar for the first time, and put it on last. I was so perplexed because I couldn't taste it at all. What a happy coincidence that I read your comment!
Thanks for sharing that. What you say, is the truth. Glad that it was said, @MW.
Thank you!
Yup when i worked at subway we had to squeeze the water from the tuna with our hands really good ofcourse we would wear gloves but yea thats the recipe.
Thanks!
An employee at my Subway told me their tuna salad was simply tuna and full-fat mayonnaise (Kraft at the time). I wonder if the mayo may vary by location.
Who knew that all this time I made my tuna just like Subway. I know people get grossed out by mayo, but I love it and I make my tuna just like this…
Subway uses an ice cream scoop. They put 3 small mounds of tuna on a 6 inch. I'll def be making your recipe cuz SW prices went up
I used to eat it most times I went to Subway. But heard too many bad things about it now! Wow! Now I can make my own. Thanks. Just not sure I want that much mayo. I always got black olives, banana peppers and cheese. Thanks so much, I'm gonna try it
Mmmmmm!
Don't go to Subway very often but when I do it's always tuna.and toast the bread first so it won't get soggy before I get home
My husband said he couldn't get Black Olives at a subway in Corpus Christi a couple weeks ago. Apparently they stopped ham and black olives. Tysm for this recipe bc he said he's never going back. 🤣
No black olives?! !!!
Yes, never going back. Only time that we even think about it, is when we get a 2-for-1 coupon, but then we say HECK NO. We just print out a COPYCAT RECIPE we've perfected.
😂😂😂
I just made tuna sandwiches for lunch, and thought I might have put too much mayo in. Nope. After sitting in fridge for a bit, it is perfect!
I always season my tuna with onion powder, dill, lemon pepper and sweet pickle relish and it's the bomb!!!!
Who knew that a buttload of mayo was the secret? Thanks for sharing this recipe.
Yeah, the general consensus is dry tuna and lots of mayo. I think at this point, the amount of mayo can be adjusted to your preference. I was just testing the Reddit post. It was good ngl. Lol! 😬
The idea of a mayo tuna sauce has been around for a while in many delis. Although deli sandwich culture was mostly on the east coast in the big cities , many people in the country was never really exposed to it till later in history
they have the best tasting mayo...would love to know the secret on that :)
Now that you’ve gracefully shared this recipe with us, I will never buy another tuna sandwich from subway again either! ❤
Ow thank you! That was my favorite sandwich to get there but I heard that it wasn’t even tuna so I stopped going there. Now I need to try this. Thank you so much girl!
I heard the same thing, and tuna was the only thing I ever ordered.
And the bread wasn't really a foot long. The lies!
But so delicious
Omg same exact thing for me!! I haven’t been back since, and it’s been years. Hallelujah, she cracked the code 🎉🎉
I enjoyed your video cause I’m a big time tuna lover and that’s the only sub I ever use to order at Subway. I now make my tuna salad in the food processor and it’s a total game changer. You don’t need that much mayo at all, but it comes out super creamy and smooth and just like the best kind you get in delis. You can put whatever you like in it (all in the food processor together) but I use, celery, scallions, 1 slice of jarred jalapeno, pepperoncini, and some ground white pepper and it’s amazing.
And the bolillo bun is added bonus! Love bolillo buns 🥖.
Thank you for sharing! 😋
👋🏼 Hello
Thanks for this great recipe!
I used to buy subway tuna sandwich a lot! But it’s very pricey now days 💰 I’ll try yours 🤗
Yummy 😋 I love tuna salad. Mama I watched your live cooking last night! You did great. I had to look up what fideo Loco was, I love fideo. One of our dinners we had growing up in our home. Thank you. Takes me back home...memories of my Mom and Dad.
Delish! 😋🤤
I loved this subway ♥️
TIP: if you don't want to use too much mayo, use more sour cream than mayo, to still get that creamy texture. Also, if you use tuna in oil, the flavor is enhanced 200%. Try it with oil or without, and with mayo only and then sour cream, and then both. In this way you can see which one you like the most. 🍀
I had one recently in Salton City and it cost me well over$17! Not worth it, I will follow you're advice and make my own. Oh by the way, it was a small 6 inch sandwich.
Dang, 17 bucks???
Yes, it's sure not worth it most places eating out now. That's why we google COPYCAT RECIPES for whatever we want to eat.
@@elnet1 Yes, it's like $14.75 bucks for a ham footlong in Houston, Texas now.
I also live in the desert, Nevada desert, though. Just passed by a Port of Subs that had two 6" subs for 17 dollars, its getting so that you can't afford to eat anymore. I stopped eating subway after the 5 dollar footlong went out of existence. Don't eat fast food unless I am travelling
Thank you sooo much! I LOVE Subways tuna soo much but it’s expensive. So happy I can make this at home now. Last time I went, the bread was toasted so hard I couldn’t even eat it 😩
Thanks for the video! I didn't put one to one ratio but I put almost one to one. It came out very delicious. Definitely like Subway. Definitely upgraded my tuna sandwich game. Thank you so much for making this video
Looks delicious! You make everything look so good.😊
Thanks so much for sharing. One of my favorite sandwiches. 👍😋👍❤️
Looks super delicious! 😁👍🏻
Made this today. It's DELICIOUS! Thank you.
Back in my deli days they added bread crumbs to the tuna salad to stretch it….and it actually tasted great.
Beautiful!
Might have to give it a try. I've been thinking about tuna salad lately since I haven't eaten it since the 70's.
Looks good, TY for posting!
This is so good, I love it ! Thank you ! ❤❤❤❤🎉❤
Gonna try this tonight. It was just like subway. Thanks, great dinner idea for us tonight.
I like how you used vinegar and oil on the sandwich. Thanks for cracking the code for the Subway Sandwich! 😊
I did it now and it was great🤩
Okay, I'm trying this tomorrow for lunch. It sure will save a boatload of money if it works! Thanks for sharing.
I've heard that they also put lemon juice in it as well. It seems like I can taste the smallest amount of that freshness in there...
Try yellowfin tuna because it tastes better and the quality of the light tuna depends on the brand.
Yes! I only eat yellowfin or, if I can't find it, skipjack.
Might have this for breakfast!!
Az önce yaptım. Harika oldu 🤩
Nice!
Yummy! I been looking for this one and the seafood sensation recipe they use to have
Oh my YUM!!!😊❤
Looks delicious 🤙
Woohoo I've always wondered 🎉
You're *almost* right! Restaurants actually use "heavy duty" or "extra heavy" mayonnaise that you can only buy at restaurant supply places in 1 gallon jars. You can get a similar taste using Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise though. The secret is....extra egg yolks, that's it! 😂😊
Thanks so much! I have wondered what's in their tuna salad. It doesn't really look like it has much in it, so this makes sense. .I have to say that Subway's bread is essential. I will have to start checking out different brands of rolls and see if I can find something just as yummy.
How about doing a subway cold cut 😊
Tuna was my first favorite. I had onion, tomato, lettuce, black olives, then i would either bring with me or bring it home to add thin slices of radish. My second favorite was the sweet onion teriyaki, and i just bought that sauce in the bottle.
Yum!
Now I see why I hated Subway tuna. I barely use any mayonnaise for my tuna or no mayo if I use tuna in extra virgin olive oil.
I do like the idea of using bolillo for the bread, it sounds delicious.
Hi A.!!! I see you have a new channel that is live. Im not into lives. I will watch it because Im a fan of a good quality hot dog. I dont eat anything fish. I am watching this tho.I have said many times over the years that I am a fussy eater!!!...Nice Video!!!...🦋
Looks good to me.
Just to say, I love a good mayonnaise sandwich with some tuna! And chives.
Yep you are correct, I won’t go to subway either.
I’ll try it lol but you’re right that’s a lot of mayo
yuuum❤
Ahhhhh the bowl scraping got me.
It’s the BREAD that makes it different. If I can find the same type of bread then I will make all my sandwiches at home
Looks delicious! If anyone wants to cut out some mayo, ise a little sour cream or plain yogurt to cut back a bit.
Can you do a jersey mikes tuna fish next? Please and thank you!
The subway here puts a lot more tuna in their sub. yours looks so yummy 😋
Wow thats a lot of mayo 😮 I never ordered a Tuna from Subway because I heard it was not good. I'll have to try your recipe.
I've never had a tuna sandwich at Subway 🤷♀️
Me neather lol
Now I'm starving.
I thought you were going to say it had something gross in it 😂 😂. I was so prepared for that 😂.
1:1 ratio, like matter to antimatter inside a warp core.
YES - WITH BLACK OLIVES 😁👍
I want to know the recipe for the wawa chicken salad!
Hey-o for the May-o! I love it. Now I have to try it, thank you so much.
According to the ingredient list on the Subway website, the tuna also contains vinegar, salt, sugar, spice and lemon juice concentrate.
Thank you for showing us this. Subway has gotten outrageous on their sandwiches. I am not gonna pay $12.50 for a footlong of anything they make. For us, we've learned how to copycat Jersey Mike's, especially two of our favorites: Philly Cheese Steak and the Italian Sub. Also, Jersey Mike's is outrageous too -- $17 bucks for a stupid footlong. No more for us. It is just TOO EASY to go online and look up COPYCAT RECIPES. What do these Fast Food Restaurants think that all of us are just plain stupid or something?!?!?!
Yes, plain stupid and the something is Lazy.
I agree 100%! I hope more people will stop going to these places and paying ridiculous prices. Maybe then they’ll get the message!
IDK why, It's been a long time, but I only order the tuna sandwich from Subway. Thank you!
I gotta stick with Subway for that new "viral" tuna sandwich. It's so good!
Definitely a winner ❤
that's not a hot dog, it's a tuna sandwich...
❤
I prefer Port of Subs!
Never had one.
My wife has had the equivalent JimmyJohn's and loves it. Dissect it for me please.
I would put cheese slices first and grill them lightly, then mustard and then the rest of the veggies and tuna…
Absolutely Delicious ❤😊 add White American Cheese ✅🏆
I've always hated subway for some reason but I liked blimpie and quiznos tho.
Subway prices have gone thru the roof I don’t eat subway anymore
What brand of mayo did you use, Angelica? I used to get the Primal Kitchen avocado oil, but the taste changed and now it is nasty.
Where do they sell pouches of Tuna?
Every grocery store sells tuna in pouches. ❤
What brand mayonnaise did you use.
An employee at my Subway told me their tuna salad was simply tuna and full-fat mayonnaise (Kraft at the time), nothing else. Unfortunately, she didn't give me the proportions. I think Jimmy John's tuna salad is the best of any sandwich chain. 👈⬅
HI,
SUBWAY WAS THE PLACE BACK IN THE DAY.
MY GO TO, WAS THE COLD CUT TRIO AND SEAFOOD SALAD.
TUNA, I TRIED. IT WAS OK.
ALSO IT JUST WASN'T A SUBWAY SANDWICH WITHOUT BLACK OLIVES. HAD TO HAVE. AND THE SEASONINGS. YOU COULDN'T SKIMP WITH ANYTHING. IT HAD TO LOOK LIKE WHAT YOU ADVERTISED.
SOMETIMES IT DIDN'T.
THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES AND SHARING.
OH, DON'T FORGET THE ADDICTIVE COOKIES.
Last time I had a tuna sub from Subway it tasted like it had sat for several weeks. That was the sub ever, from any Subway, for me.
I know when I make tuna at home and add too much mayo it's gross and I add another can of tuna and adjust the mayo. Bla, but I would never think about getting tuna at subway either
"Why do you want Subway? we got subway at home." :)
I rather put the oil & vinegar on my Spicy Italian
The cost, where I live for a Tuna Footlong, from Subway is 13.00.😮
Yeah, for that reason alone, making this at home for the win.😃🙌🏼
@ Angelica, that’s after my state tax in FL..
Another former Sando Artist: our store also used plenty of salt and pepper in the mix. My tip is to break up the fish with your hands. Enjoy!
Weight the tuna and Mayo for accuracy
Ohhh nooo I will never buy subways tuna too much mayo 😳
Who knew???? That they use that much mayo on their tuna fish is mind boggling but, I have had it and liked it.
The last tuna sub I had was from Jersey Mike's and I couldn't believe how good the tuna was. That's when I noticed how white it was so it must've had ungodly amounts of mayo. I guess it's like restaurant mash potatoes - they add sticks of butter while we're too self conscious to do so at home.
Tuna tastes best the next day.
❤️🤤😋👍🏽👍🏽
1:1 ratio works if youre using avocado mayo (not with a dash of avocado oil and 99% canola)
This is tuna-flavored mayo 😭
