My speeds are pretty slow, probably because I'm 2 floors away from the router (BT Smart Hub). Can you recommend a very good router to improve range/speed/bandwidth issues?
@@ehsan3954 I assume you are wireless on 2.4Ghz band. 5Ghz will give you much higher speeds, but it's bad at range. you can try getting a powered single router like Asus RT-AX88U. just anything with 4x4 antennas. It's overkill specs and you probably don't have wifi 6 clients (only brand new laptop/phones have it at the moment) but it'll still be better the BT shit-hub range and speed. Generally ceilings/floors are easier then walls, but only when it's straight up, if you put some walls in between then it'll still be tough. If you want solid speed/connections, its cables. but for wireless its MESH using wifi 6 (160Mhz for the best) as a dedicated transfer backhaul channel cos no one is connected to it. For out-of-the-box, Asus zenwifi AX. you will get close to 900Mbps transfer under 14m to satellite nodes. If you're on budget, get the AC version, has two 5Ghz channel, even lower price range? Zenwifi AX mini, only single 2x2 wifi 6/5Ghz shared, but for it's price its alright. Nighthawk Mk62 is an alternative, solid range but mesh speed is capped at 100mbps. If mesh isn't an option and you ereally want one router? You can gamble on the older RT-AC88U or mid-tier RT-AX3000, at least it has 4x4 antennas and new cpu/chipset. I’m also in the process of getting my money back, bought an xr1000 thinking I could use it as an extender for my upstairs setup (my mistake in thinking it could do that) I called netgear support today for two hours and yesterday for about another hour and a half, I tried setting it up in access point mode and I can’t run an Ethernet cable to my setup because my modem is downstairs and I’m upstairs, now I’m thinking about talking to my isp about getting better internet but I literally just want something that can lower my ping and give me better connection while I’m upstairs gaming and streaming, should I try and get a new internet line to my room upstairs? Or should I just get an extender? Someone help, anyone please just help lol 😭😂

@@EdlundInside hi, I beta test for NG and Netduma so I’ve a bunch of these routers including their R2 which I beta tested. The 5e is capable of 1gig and that’s the max connection to the XR1000. The same applies to the XR500 but the throughput is lower than the R7800 which the XR500 is based on due to the coding behind NG but also it’s an old router with some code that dates back many years. Voxel updates the R7800 so throughput is increased in that router and he also unlocked the cpu which was not running at the specs stated. Max lan is in the mid 850 to 900s but it’s pushing it a bit and there will be variable results. They do suffer issues, as you know 3.0 has been the only update since 1.3 and while a 2.0 is banded about there is no 2.0. Some of the same bugs remain ie.port reporting issues for example or the non dynamic network that shows connection even when not connected. Some aspects I can’t talk about but gaming routers are not for everyone, I personally even though I like the lads at Netduma use a RAX120 and never use the XR routers or their R2. The XR1000 is based on the RAX50 so uses a Broadcom chip and while it is triple core it uses one for network processing, it’s a mid to lower tier AX router and as such will struggle as you push the cpu to manage QoS which does have passthrough as seen in the R2 to keep a high connection rate with QoS on. They did chat about about an adaptive QoS which will impact the throughput but I’ve heard no more on that. As such the throughput will not be as high as other higher spec routers. For example compared to the 1.5 triple the RAX120 is a quad core 2.2 with a dual core 1.7 for network processing so it’s going to be faster and will handle higher throughput. With all netgear routers it’s always best to perform a factory reset after an update to the firmware as low level code remains in the NVram. You can also power off for around 15mins to clear its cache which some do.
@@Minpeace regardless, my speed test was lower with the 350.00 router vs my 250 old one. Perhaps I purchased a faulty one but that’s on the company to ensure that their routers are up to par with working. I love nighthawks but this gaming one was a disappointment.
@@EdlundInside it is a lower tier one but you pay for Duma and those features eat up processing so yes it will suffer. The RAX50 will no doubt have better throughput as it’s working of a base setup with no layering of firmware. That’s why it’s important to understand hardware and how performance is impacted under load. Like I say I have the pick of NG routers and the RAX120 is my type of router and the version 2 due out soon uses the latest Hawkeye chip so full WiFi 6 spec at last.
Warning. Setup using a PC on Ethernet connection can be problematic. The web interface of the router is fussy about which browser is used and make sure you disable any adblock software otherwise you will have a bad time. The router takes quite a while to boot and updating the smallest of settings takes about 30 seconds. I also had issues because my internet would not automatically configure because it needed a login/password. Also, the phone app is likely to fail if your internet connection needs login/password and any additional VLAN/Bridge settings.
Haven't really kept up with router tech, I just replace them every few years when better wifi standards are about. Been skeptical of gaming routers, kind of part assuming that the gaming aspect of it pretty much only relates to the aesthetic. I really like the geofilters in this. It's a good way to have a decent experience in games with crappy online that doesn't allow you to set location (eg Smash Bros). I'm a competitive player and I've completely swerved online because 99% of Switch players use Wifi and the dogshit matchmaking that puts me against people on the other side of the planet. Hopefully this will change once people get the OLED model and make use of the ethernet port. Combine that with geo filtering and online might actually be enjoyable
So playing Genshin Impact on PS4 is the same wired as it is on Wifi with the TP Link AX11000, although that’s still 4ms slower (32ms wired or wireless) on 250/250 fiber than the free Frontier (Arris) modem/router (28ms wired) on 24/1 DSL and the Linksys AC1000 (28-30ms wired) on 250/250 fiber. I guess it is like using a Star Destroyer to make a milk run, should have gone with a Millennium Falcon. XD

If by computer you mean desktop or laptop, then no, you do not need those. Most routers software is accessed by browser. You can use a browser on a smart phone or even a gaming console to access it. Some routers (mostly older routers) require a wired ethernet connection for initial setup however.
Sadly there is no holy grail so you need to pick a router for your needs. With 6E just appearing it’s something else to look into however the first ones from Asus and Netgear are showing poor coverage so worth doing so research.
That's like saying "I don't want to pay for a lamborghini, so which car should I buy?"... there's SO MANY WiFi-6 routers out there by multiple companies at all kinds of different prices. You should probably start by narrowing your search down to a certain price range and go from there. Also, if there's certain features you do want, look for those... there's tons of routers out there.
To clarify most "gaming routers" are wifi/multiple ethernet port hubs... you will need a separate box for your internet connection... either a cable modem (Cox/Spectrum, etc) or "ONT" box for fiber optic internet (like AT&T)... simply put... Wall-line to Modem/ONT, ethernet line from the modem to your gaming router/wifi hub (computers/devices connect to the router/wifi hub).
Mhm, I think the distance shortner for searching for servers is useless because most games search for servers with the best ping, so essentially you would be getting worse connection latency then normal :/ That sounds like an L to me.
Hi, I want a new router but can someone clear something up for me. I’m with virgin media, do I have to keep their router and then plug this into that. Or does it replace it? TIA
Do you have to pay a monthly fee to use the router or how dose it work. do you pay a 1 time fee and need a internet provider or is it a 1 time fee and you get free wifi after that idk how this stuff work I'm still new to wifi and internet stuff.

Most ISP's charge you a "rental" fee for their equipment/routers... so if your using the router provided by your ISP, you're probably paying something like $10/month for "renting" the router from them on your ISP bill. Over a year, that's $120... two years $240... etc, etc. Or you can buy your OWN router, which is probably going to be better than your ISP provides, return the router you're "renting" from your ISP to them, and cut $10/mo off your bill... it will more than pay for itself over time.
I have this exact router, the mobile app and the router settings is very advanced and user friendly at the same time, it also increased our range and gave us better ping. I’d think they are worth it, the auto IP address set up DIDNT work though, I had to put all my setting through manually
hey! do you know much about getting better ping? i was thinking of buying a new router but idk will it make my ping go lower even if we pay for the same monthly thing (200mbit).. my friends tells me itll help with my ping but when i did a bit of researching it says it wont help. BUT the thing is, theyre always talking abt wireless wifi, but im looking for answers of ethernet! if i buy a new router and use an ethernet cable, will my ping/connection be faster or will it stay the same? is 200mbit good enough or do we have to start paying for a better one, like 400mbit? sorry im a bit bad at explaining since english isnt my 1st language. haha
The congestion control should be set to auto so that it only caps throughput when you are actually gaming. While their instructions don't detail it fully, the goal is you do ping tests and lower the speeds until your ping times stop having large increases. Then it should be set to auto so that you get your full speed at all times except when you are gaming. Beyond that, you set up the QOS separately where for traffic that is not very ping sensitive, it will allow full use of all available throughput, but will allow you to prioritize certain traffic, e.g., giving youtube and other streaming services a higher priority.
I have a standard router and was thinking of getting a gaming router for my personal desk set up. Is this possible to have both in use at the same time under the same broadband contract? Or would I need to purchase another contract to use this??
I live in a trailer(one with actual wheels) currently. I have no WiFi I have to connect my phone's hotspot to my PS4. You can not imagine how long it takes to download just one app, imagine how long it would take to update a game. I don't know what to do and get, I obviously can't get this router or any router because I don't have internet to connect it right? Can someone help me out? Should I go to best buy, Walmart, target etc. to get someone to help me there for my unanswered questions?
To clarify most "gaming routers" are wifi/multiple ethernet port hubs... you will need a separate box for your internet connection... either a cable modem (Cox/Spectrum, etc) or "ONT" box for fiber optic internet (like AT&T)... simply put... Wall-line to Modem/ONT, ethernet line from the modem to your gaming router/wifi hub (computers/devices connect to the router/wifi hub). Your modem is the gateway to the internet, the fastest router is still going to be limited to whatever your modem/ISP provides. Remember how this all gets to your devices: INTERNET >>> Modem/ISP >>> Router/Wifi >>> Your Computer/Device If you have super fast Modem/ISP but a crappy router/wifi, you'll get crap access to the internet If you have super fast router/wifi but a very slow modem/ISP service, you'll get crap access to the internet If you have super fast modem/ISP and a super fast router/wifi, you'll get great access to the internet Examples: You have a fast cable modem provider that gives you 1 Gbps download, a great modem, but a really ancient low quality WiFi-4 router... bad experience on your computer. You have a super slow DSL provider that gives you 24 Mbps download or cheaped out and got the slowest cable download speed, a great modem and a great WiFi-6 router... bad experience on your computer, so if you cheap out on that, having a great router won't save you.
@@MATTW3R I'm not sure there's such a thing as a "gaming modem" since the features that prioritize or optimized for gaming are going to come from your router and/or WiFi... if you have multiple devices you want multiple streams and/or fast streams and/or things that can prioritize gaming signals over non-gaming ones... those are all features of a router/wifi device. Your modem only really does one thing... provide the internet signal to the router/wifi device which then figures out the rest. The only thing I can really say about your modem, is that it should be "quality" and it should be equal-to or faster-than handling the speed your ISP is providing (a 500 Mbps modem isn't good for a 1 Gbps plan)... so really, just get a quality modem that's equal or faster to the speed of your plan, you'll be fine... the router/wifi device is where you pay closest attention for gaming. For me, i have a Motorola MB8611 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem with 2.5G Ethernet... note the 2.5 Gbps capability is future proofing, my ISP only provides 1 Gbps currently. Also remember cable modems are for cable ISP... if you have a fiber optic line, like from AT&T, they don't use cable modems, you'd need a completely different device for your gateway.
Those antennas make it look faster indeed.. In addition you should drill some speedholes in it and apply some cool racing stripes to make it look even faster 😂😂

Im biased towards Asus cos the web control is ace and much more reliable than TP/cisco/netgear, but get whatever is your thing. cheers.

What cable should it come with?
@@Minpeace cat 6 - I have 1 gig internet. The best I got when I connected through lab was 600 mb/s. The cheaper nighthawk did a much better job and came with a better cable. The only thing this router differs is the server finder but the programming is slow and has many issues. You’ll see when you get it. It’s not worth the money.

Which WiFi 6 router should I get if I don’t care about gaming features ?

Most ISP's charge you a "rental" fee for their equipment/routers... so if your using the router provided by your ISP, you're probably paying something like $10/month for "renting" the router from them on your ISP bill. Over a year, that's $120... two years $240... etc, etc. Or you can buy your OWN router, which is probably going to be better than your ISP provides, return the router you're "renting" from your ISP to them, and cut $10/mo off your bill... it will more than pay for itself over time.

Remember how this all gets to your devices:
INTERNET >>> Modem/ISP >>> Router/Wifi >>> Your Computer/Device
If you have super fast Modem/ISP but a crappy router/wifi, you'll get crap access to the internet
If you have super fast router/wifi but a very slow modem/ISP service, you'll get crap access to the internet
If you have super fast modem/ISP and a super fast router/wifi, you'll get great access to the internet
Examples:
You have a fast cable modem provider that gives you 1 Gbps download, a great modem, but a really ancient low quality WiFi-4 router... bad experience on your computer.
You have a super slow DSL provider that gives you 24 Mbps download or cheaped out and got the slowest cable download speed, a great modem and a great WiFi-6 router... bad experience on your computer, so if you cheap out on that, having a great router won't save you.
@@wolfshanze5980 but what modem is recommended for gamers?
