A slight change from the original is from "I wanted my name in lights" to "We wanted our name in lights". Just Bo letting everyone know that he holds everyone in the same amount of contempt to which he holds himself.
Thats right, this is from the comedian interview show where Bo was invited to be there with Romano, and Garry Shandling and others. He was totally burning them too. You can see it in his eyes when he turns to look at them.
classic and excellent.
“My drug is attention; I am an addict,
But I get paid to indulge in my habit”
The look on Marc Maron and Ray Ramano’s faces, themselves once being addicted to drugs 🤯😨
I get the feeling that Bo hates when he's trying to put out a serious message and people just laugh at it .
Of course, I'd hate it too lol. I cringe when people just laugh at the Kanye Rant or say "this goes hard" to All Eyes on Me where he literally talks about his panic attacks
Well perhaps Comedy wouldn't be the best medium to share ones message if they'll hate others laughing at it, regardless of how serious it is 😅
He just points out to us that sometimes things people laugh at are no laughing matter. It is still comedy. There to be laughed at. You can do comedy about serious shit too. Bo is a prime example, much like Carlin was. There's comedians that do a bunch of oneliners about farts and then there's this shit that people will laugh at and then go home and think on the message in it. It's amazing.
The first rule of comedy is tragedy.
oh he definitely does, i’ve seen him get visibly upset at multiple shows when they do. he knows they’re going to laugh, but it’s literally just human to be upset a little bit
This is my second favorite Bo Burnham song. My favorite is "World on Fire".
A man of culture I see
"World on Fire" is emotional and succinct.
Short but gold
Legitimately cried laughing the first time I saw him do “world of fire”
@@maevegillespie6911 I have two cover versions on my channel. One vertical and one horizontal.
You can hear Bo’s genuine rage when people laugh at certain lines. ‘When we could’ve fed a family of four for forty f**king Fortnite’s’ and several other lines really show his rage and self contempt. It’s sad and heartbreaking to hear from such a young man. *Fortnights
fortnight is the 2 week period, Fortnite is the game
@@hjonkhjonkamgoose Good point, I normally comment and watch UA-cam on my iPad. Auto correct is a bitch.
Seems I didn’t double check this comment before posting. Thanks.
@@GBNationalist naw you're 100% good. I'm just a little bitch when it comes to Grammar and feel the compulsive need to correct stuff sometimes. Not all the time though, because that would be annoying 😂😂😂
@@hjonkhjonkamgoose Ahh I don’t think there is anything wrong with correcting people, it can be perceived as annoying but in the end you are only trying to help.
@@hjonkhjonkamgoose *grammar
Whenever I watch the Green Room performance of Art is Dead, I always try to see just how many of the celebrities in the room are truly listening to the lyrics. So far, the only person who seemed to be really understanding and enjoying it was Ray Romano.
Any time. You see Ray Ramano watching another comedian or performer you can generally see the appreciation for talent
i bet garry got it too. he was the one who seemed to really like bo in this
I think it’s the best episode.
“I can truly say… who are any of you?”
I love him so much
"Oh he's a prop comic" xD
Mark Maron looks unhappy as if he wants to have the brain that bo has.
That whole...interview? Discussion?...is great. There’s a clip of everybody just riffing on each other. It’s great.
I love when one of them (I think it was Marc Maron) says something along the lines of “So are we meeting here again next week?” like it was a scheduled therapy session.
It was a reoccurring comedy round table show on HBO called The Green Room With Paul Provenza. It featured a constantly rotating couch of comedians and most of the episodes were at least interesting.
@@xtldc Bo describing his favorite comedian says "He comes out on the stage with a black sock on his hand."
Mark Maron: "Already I don't like him."
Bo Burnham, instantly responds "Okay, a white sock...."
Maron had Bo on his own podcast not long after that, partly to make up for him being kinda dismissive of Bo. It was a fairly classy move on his part, I think.
@@brianmcdonald42 I’ve listened to the WTF episode with Bo on it. Very much enjoyed it. It’s a great podcast overall though. Recently found an old one with Bobby Lee on it that was excellent
Bo was greatly inspired by George Carlin and looks up to him very much, he’s one of the reasons Bo started doing comedy
I legitimately think he will be my generation's Carlin.
He was also inspired by the Dutch Hans Teeuwen which he talked about in the show
I will never get tired of the Bo reactions. He deserves so much more recognition than he gets.
It's not "comedy", he says in his first performance of this song that it's not funny but helps him sleep at night.
It sounds more like a confession of his own guilt. This was one of his earlier songs that expressed this side of his personality without complicating the expression with a ton of metaphors.
It's probably a large part of what was eating at him and contributed to the panic attacks.
What's shit about this particular performance of the song is that he says so much real shit in this song and none of the group touched it at all. They wanted him to play it, then they moved on without a word about it.
The whole moment felt out of place because it looked like the only one letting any of it sink in was Raymond, he didn't even comment on it.
I thought that was so bizarre
In the show that this song is from, he prefaces the song with "this song isn't funny, but it helps me to sleep at night"
It is so interesting now that Inside is out going back and rewatching that whole video. Where he talks about the Dutch absurdist with a sock puppet, and how he doesn't think anyone wants to hear him talk about how the world works. Now we have a song of him with a sock puppet talking about how the world works.
You should watch the entire greenroom interview with bo burnham and all the comics. It's so good ... You can do it on your own time since it is a little lengthy if I remember right. They are joking with each other the whole time, but they also get to the serious stuff about being comics and how they deal with their minds and stuff.
You should absolutely react to ‘Rant’ by Bo Burnham, it’s genuinely one of his best pieces of music
The Kanye rant? He already did that
@@ryanhanna4808 No I'ts named Rant look it up
Absolutely. It’s unfortunate that he also has the Kanye rant so the OG gets overlooked. Genuinely one of his best and I think all of his work is excellent
We Think We Know You by Bo Burnham would be a great follow up to this. Love your Bo reactions!
I can't imagine how Bo must've felt when speaking about such serious stuff and people just keep laughing as if he isn't saying actual things
Ray ramano criticizing any stand-up comedian, is the funniest thing I’ve heard from him in years
One of my favorites from him but he was stressing in this version, I read sometime ago he was having or on the verge of having a panic attack during this
Its not much.....but I really appreciate your reactions and overall sense of what it means to be "human". Thanks for being genuine Sir.
Solid reaction. Love that you’re venturing into Bo Burnham
It's clear to me that you haven't reacted to RANT from Bo Burnham. It's really much more raw than his newer stuff. It's my favorite rap song, in fact... Please do that one next! I know you're being careful about what you say yourself but I do expect a lot of staring into the camera, and I wish you do comment on the subject matter nevertheless!
RANT really doesn't get enough views with his list of songs getting bigger it gets forgotten too much for one of his best
@@DarthKrillin I'm not talking about Kanye Rant. He has another Rant. Look it up and thank me :) The Kanye Rant isn't rap anyway
this song is eternally my favorite, because it paves the way for things like inside. he says from the jump in other performances that this song _isn’t_ funny. it’s not meant to be laughed at, it’s to help him sleep better at night. i genuinely think the guys interviewing him here weren’t ready for this 20 year old kid to read them so hard
"This song isn't funny but it helps me sleep at night"
In the longer interview I love how Marc Maron just goes "that was cute" right after. They're vicious, that show paul provenzas green room was so good. A lot of great episodes.
This is my favorite Bo song. Actually brilliant. Also, you have to be very wise beyond your years as a 20 year old to say, "I don't value what I think at this point." Incredibly insightful for that age. If you don't think so, reflect on your *own* thoughts at 20.
It would give the same energy if he sang rant in a church-
The tension in that room is insane
I just found your channel this morning and I am binging. Love the content, especially on Bo. I also love your commentary, so poignant and thoughtful.
The standup version in my opinion feels more raw, while this one feels like a recital.
Rant. (Not his Kanye rant, that's a different song) and left brain/right brain are amazing 🤩
Prop comic? Bo's only prop is the entire human race
"Oh he's a prop comic!"
I fucking love Ray Romano xD
Carlin was so far ahead of his time; I don't know what gave him the insight from such an early age, but I wish I'd had it when I was far younger than my early 30s. He was honest, and even his biases we on full display. He died being one of the last great honest, funny, and intelligent comedians.
This video breaks my heart. When he's talking about feeding a family of 4 for 40 fort nights and the crowd laughs. I can only imagine the utter disgust going through his mind. How they unwittingly prove his exact point and are just too self obsessed to even see it. Makes me cringe.
and so is this dude in this video lol, thinking bo is talking about predatory record labels rather than artists or anyone in the limelight (even the person reacting here) making a profit off of thinking they are better and deserve it. The shear fucking daftness of people astounds me
Liked, commented, and subscribed for Bo! I love your reactions man!
Great reaction. Can i get Channel 5 The Musical? It's audio only but so good!
I think you'd enjoy 4 chords by axis of awesome
I think you are awesome! Just subscribed because I am a huge Bo Burnham fan and I felt like you really gave him a fair chance. A lot of people I know in real life don't get it. So, respect bro! Thank you! Also think you have a great voice.....maybe try ASMR lol
I was hoping this is the video you would watch. Not his cleanest performance, but the setting kind of adds to the experience.
The thing is that it was an extremely long time ago since most art was done out of just the love for art, what has changed is that art used to be commissioned by states, churches and rich people. Now it's about appealing to as many people as possible or government (yeah they're still here). Not saying that we should let huge organisations and rich people dictate art, but we should all be more selective in the art we pick. Find artists that aren't mainstream but you enjoy and support them to do their thing, don't throw your money at the latest marvel movie just because everyone else will. Do it if you genuinely want to watch it.
Thank you. Awesome reaction. Bo Burnham IS a great artist in my opinion. I too enjoy the how he sees the world or life per day. Unique humor and perspective.
Love that line "My drug's attention, I am an addict but I get paid to indulge in my habit"
1:20 - My man... Yes. He's not a prop comic. He's a excellent pianist. It's understatement. That's the joke.
5:50 - Who's more respected in comedy than Carlin? He represented the moral and rational voice of the English speaking world.
Love your reactions, screen to the left was very distracting this go round, not sure if you realized it was in there. Maybe the camera swiveled a little.
Nice! Don't see Green Room "Art is Dead" reactions very often. Your Patreon made a great request.
Bo Burman has more talent in his pinky finger then Ray has ever come across just my shitty opinion
Ray and Mark love this man. No joke. The video tells.
Definitely, you can see the mad respect even as people get their quips in.
Yeah, you can't really see the video in this react, so I am guessing when I commented I watched the orginal show then started to look up people reacting to it.
@@SpiralOfWhite yeah I've seen it a bunch of times Ray especially is hanging on every word
I have an interesting change up for you! Try, "No One Loves Me And Neither Do I" by Them Crooked Vultures! I think you'll find something interesting about their music!
I would also ignore the TV to watch Bo Burnham.
The "prop comic" bit was a joke... because they are kinda comics.... in front of a crowd. they do that sometimes haha
My whole life, I'd never thought I was smart. always had this feeling I was one of the dumb ones, which I was fine with, lots of dumb people are happy, so I was always looking for my happiness.
then I started working in Fast Food last month
holy god dang damn, I am not dumb, these people are dumb. maybe I _am_ dumb for subjecting myself to this, but they have no cognizance, they have no reasoning, explanations, "it's just how we do it"
and i'm still not happy. here's to my next 2/3rds of "living"
I’ve read many places that underutilized gifts and undereducated intelligence causes depression. It may be harder, but going after things that challenge you or even cause pain may be a better route out of depression than anything-obviously therapy and other things are good, but since you referenced undervaluing your intelligence, I thought I’d mention it. If you can’t afford higher education, then pick a subject and study the hell out of it by yourself-and never go down a route that doesn’t include having your own thoughts and ideas constantly challenged and undermined. People don’t know how to actually think anymore. It’s worth studying.
Happiness can be the road to depression if it’s meaningless. Pain can be the road to fulfillment and long-lasting joy if it’s meaningful.
please react to RANT by Bo.... the bars in that song are lit as hell
I was hoping to see you react to this one. Havent watched yet, but im excited
BEFORE REACTION!! at first didn't like your reactions but now Love them!! Much love from San Antonio Texas
Welcome to the club. Wichita falls Texas here. Long time fan.
Please react to Dan Bull - civilization
Check out some of his stand up.
His special Words Words Words has a section of Haikus and Shakespeare. You won’t be disappointed.
Bo Burnham - “Comedy” is one you should see. Also “Problematic” and “Turning 30”
Creativity in art is just remixed
I wish you hadn't reacted to this performance for your first time hearing this song.
This dudes enunciation sounds like a newscaster /neutral
You should react to 'Straight White Male' also from bo burnham, personally one of my favorites
This is Bo Burnham at his absolute peak
watch the full thing, maron is an fboi
Right guys
I have a question about your patreon account. Does your patreon account have closed captioning?
This is legitimately a question.
For other hearing impared viewers, Live Transcribe's new option for live captions actually works on this one YT show. Most other, nope.
Why are you playing Pawn Stars on the tv with just the last quarter of it visible in the video?
man, wish I could dono a suggestion to check out some Flight of the Conchords, lol.
Pretty sure George would have been his #1 supporter
Try "Goodbye" next! 🙌
U really need to see other video. It's way more emotional and you can see he's face at the time
Oh Bo!
5:38 that’s definitely not what he’s on about eughh
Pawn Stars was a little distracting haha
every single comedy ''actor'' is deeply missing something in their sole either if its anger, love, confidence, thats how comedy come from. Like sadness and anger is a big comedy creator.
All Eyes On Me
Listen to Dan tyminski's -Someone, or Gone, or even Southern Gothic...and see what you think. I'm willing to bet you'll like it!...👋😎👍
I really like your shows, and your opinions!
Bo Burnham for me is hilarious. But I can only enjoy him when in small amounts...just say'n...
I get pissed at the audience in this performance
If Carlin was alive, this world would be different because he wouldn't fit. It would have to be. I don't get fate but it's gotta be all for a reason
Carlin would get fucking crucified on one hand because he would hate the way the world has become, but I feel like just as many if not more would consider him to be the pinnacle of everything they believe.
I imagine Carlin alive today all the time
*cough* trying to avoid the video getting de-monetised *cough*
"vultures"
Not Bo Burnham related, but please react to Adam and Eve by Nas.
Ray romano just makin g a dumb dad joke. No need to analyze anything that guy does haha
This is godly

REHAB FOR FICTIONAL CHARACTERS by Bo Burnham.
We appreciate the explanations, but I gotta be honest man, your monologues are longer than Dr. Doofensmirtz’s flashbacks explaining why he made a particular “-enator”
for Burnham, I'm torn.
He's a motivated Canadian, feel he's peaked. I say that because I refuse to consume "new content" from performers I've enjoyed in the past, including Nine Inch Nails (break up with her already you jerk)
but he's so smart, I know I'll like what he puts out, I'm just being prideful for no reason
Rant. Listen to it on your own time, Bo Burnham - Rant
not the Kanye rant. Bo titled two songs similarly, one is about Kanye West, one is about religion
If you haven't seen his new special, "Inside", you are definitely missing out.
He's not Canadian he's from Massachusetts.
first
I'm so glad carlin isn't here.....they would string him up these days.
