I love his reactions bc he reminds me of a cool uncle who will watch filth with you but tell you why it’s immoral but also won’t judge you for showing him
So glad you're sticking with Bo right now. Bo's one of my favorite entertainers and your my favorite reaction channel so it's just everything coming together for me right now. Got personal shit going on and my mom is in really rough shape. It's the few and far bright spot in my day to da that's keeping me going. Thank you, and keep up the grind.
Being a comedian isn't being an insensitive prick capitalizing on the most animalistic impulses of the public, it's being a hero! The world Isn't sad, the world is funny, I'm a sociopath! BARS!
“Do you remember Ancient Rome, with the gladiators? Do you remember that guys?” You mean to ask us if we remember something that took place during a time longer before we can even trace our whole bloodlines… He’s immortal confirmed.
The sounds he's making is him (maybe)pretending to hold back tears because he's so sad. Some of it could also be totally real since he had some real panic attacks on stage.
Yes I think he's pretending he is crying. I don't think he is having a panic attack it is way too comedic and played up to be that. But I mean I don't know, I just highly doubt it.
"You ever clap when a waitress falls and drops a tray of glasses? And ain't it fun to watch figure skaters falling on their asses? Don't you feel all warm and cozy watching people out in the rain? That schadenfreude! People taking pleasure in your pain!" -Schadenfreude, from Avenue Q the musical
*FYI* The origin of the phrase "red haired step child" dates to the 1830's-40's when Irish emigrants began arriving in America. The newly arrived Irish were somewhere below free blacks on the social scale at the time, and lived in segregated communities. The Non-Irish were not particularly accepting of Irish mixed children in their family and weren't patient or sympathetic to the red haired step child and treated them harshly, if accepted at all.
5:00 "Just goes over my head." No, Lenear. You just can't relate because you don't have-- I mean, you have less-- Okay, you're differently follicled. 😂😂 I kid. Love the reaction, man!
As a boy who had red hair, it's about being different in a way that is perceived as a negative. It's arbitrary, it's nonsense, it's a repeated theme throughout society. "That thing you have no control over which makes you observably different? We deem you to be not like us because of that, and therefore appropriate to treat worse."
I'm from europe i have heard (maybe the person was messing with me) that it comes from ages ago when people thought that people with red hair were ill people or contagious. And nowadays it's completely nonsense (it was before too, but you get my point) and it's just kind of perpetuating some stupid old nonsense shit like with a lot of stupid ideas. Honestly i don't understand it, but yeah i can see your point of view. And what makes it even more stupid is that is only against guys. Girls with red hair kind of get a pass because of the sexualisation i guess
People, society as a whole, tend to laugh at tragedy and pain. Sometimes people do that as a form of solace or escape from pain, sometimes people do it because they enjoy seeing others suffer. Bo alludes to both of these concepts here, establishes the moral ambiguity of this behavior, and presents the idea that comedians often profiteer off of these "animalistic impulses of society". For as in-your-face this song is with the messaging, it's surprisingly subtle and layered. The same can be said for a lot of Bo's performances, which is one of the things that makes him such a gifted artist and entertainer. "Goodbye sadness, hello jokes" is an underrated line of his in my opinion. It can almost be interpreted as an ethos or mission statement for his entire body of work, as long as you interpret it with the appropriate level of irony. Comedy doesn't actually solve sadness, but we like to pretend it does, and sometimes it does help a little. The potential for comedy to be a positive force in people's lives, while simultaneously being entirely useless and futile depending on your interpretation and perspective, is a recurring theme with Bo and I think it's a really clever idea for a comedian to put a spotlight on.
🤯🤯loved your comment about judging people based on the color of their hair. I don't get it either, and it makes about as much sense with skin color. I never made that connection before. Thanks for the new analogy.👋
most of bo's comedy is sarcasm and social commentary. he doesn't actually believe tragedies should be joked about, he's criticizing comedians that do think that, as well as touching upon that aspect of humanity you mentioned where we can take joy in other's suffering. he's aware that the stuff he's saying is messed up; he doesn't mean any of it, he's just pointing out that some people do think this way.
8:04 Nooooooo, 20 days. 20 minutes if you're connected enough to hear about it in time. Reminds me of part of the end of the special "Thoughts and Prayers" by Anthony Jeselnik.
7:55 this is random but from his new special INSIDE there's a clip from the song comedy of his whiteboard where he's trying to figure out what is funny and it says: comedy = tragedy + time time = money tragedy = 9/11 comedy = 9/11 + money?
Well its a few things like that and growing up I heard things like 'redheads have no souls' I don't know for sure because I am not an expert but I think a lot of it stems from how Irish immigrants were treated way back when. The railroads in America were some of the few jobs they could get. They were treated really horribly. This is only on the American side idk anything about European history...
i love that we get the rule of 20 years is enough time to joke about tragedy, after bo mentions the Holocaust (80ish years ago) and 9/11 (21 years ago).
It's brilliant because he implies that having red hair is as bad as a kitten dying or the boy with the ice cream. It's probably from the "gingers have no souls" meme.
Great reaction! I kind of figure that if Joan Rivers was able to go on stage the night her husband killed himself and make jokes about it, then tragedy can equal comedy immediately. it all depends on the intent and the audience!
Check out Anthony Jeselnik... There's no such thing as "too soon." The day of the Boston marathon he tweeted "there are lines that just should not be crossed... Today it was the finish line." 🤭
If you like this song I know you will 100% love Anthony Jeselnik. I'm too lazy to find clips but he's on Netflix so you should look in to him at some point
He is just pointing out that so many people think they are edgy or have a dark sense of humor because they make jokes about sad stuff all the time now.
I love his reactions bc he reminds me of a cool uncle who will watch filth with you but tell you why it’s immoral but also won’t judge you for showing him
lmaoooo ... Respect
I've had trouble putting my finger on it but "cool uncle" really does it hahaha
Brilliant 😂
Uncle Boyd 😂👌🏽🧐👌🏽
UncLBoyd
I always took the noises he was making, as him sobbing.
That's because *IT IS*
@@jiyoo6109 More accurately maybe, him being on the verge of sobbing and pulling it back just in time.
@@mollymcallister1671 yeah, it’s a shuddering sob.

You should definitely do “From Gods Perspective.” It’s one of Bo’s absolute masterpieces.
That one's so good!!

He already did it ( i know im late )

I see this song as a beginning stage of the song "Comedy." It is a similar concept but how one feels about it in different stages of life.
“This man is a savage and I love him”
Exactly!
Being a comedian isn't being an insensitive prick capitalizing on the most animalistic impulses of the public, it's being a hero! The world Isn't sad, the world is funny, I'm a sociopath!
BARS!
“A world on fire” - “Aaarggh!”
@@johankaewberg9512best song ever written in my opinion, honest and straight to the point!
Bo Burham;s "What" is like straight up performance art. It isn't exactly just a comedy routine.
“Do you remember Ancient Rome, with the gladiators? Do you remember that guys?”
You mean to ask us if we remember something that took place during a time longer before we can even trace our whole bloodlines…
He’s immortal confirmed.
or we all are immortal but every 100 years we forgot because we reincarnate
His last comedy special was emotionally intense, he went to a deep place - I prefer this "lighter" stuff but it was a moment
Tragedy will be exclusively joked about,
Because or empathy is bumming us out 👌
The sounds he's making is him (maybe)pretending to hold back tears because he's so sad. Some of it could also be totally real since he had some real panic attacks on stage.
Yes I think he's pretending he is crying. I don't think he is having a panic attack it is way too comedic and played up to be that. But I mean I don't know, I just highly doubt it.
lmfao
He had panic attacks during the Make Happy tour, not back in what.
I had forgotten all about ancient Rome in fairness it's been a minute
Man I love your voice it’s so calming

Those noises were fake crying sounds like when you breathe.

The finale of the same special is called We Think We Know You. Recommend
The red hair stigma probably started with how the Irish were treated when they first got to this country
"Comedy equals drama plus time" great quote from Portal( videogame)
7:58 It's 22.3 years until something is officially funny.
Was looking for this comment.
Like bo said, "because it isn't happening to me. Score!"
Those noises are the sound of holding back crying. The song is sad.

"We like terrible things. You remember gladiators, guys? You remember Ancient Rome?"
No, MrLboyd. I was dead at the time.
I love this song probably because it's one of the best satirical song I've ever heard
You take everything so literally without looking at the irony in everything, which is in itself hilarious! adds another layer to the comedy :)
You saying "We love terrible things" makes me wanna recommend Vicarious by Tool. Perfect song on the subject ✌🏽
Tragedy + time = comedy
Comedy = tragedy + time
Time = money
Tragedy = 9/11
Comedy = 9/11 + money?
This song reminds me of a Mel Brooks quote.
'Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die.'
I love your pure reaction

🤯🤯loved your comment about judging people based on the color of their hair. I don't get it either, and it makes about as much sense with skin color. I never made that connection before. Thanks for the new analogy.👋
I haven’t seen people legitimately looked down upon for having red hair - I think it’s just a silly joke.
most of bo's comedy is sarcasm and social commentary. he doesn't actually believe tragedies should be joked about, he's criticizing comedians that do think that, as well as touching upon that aspect of humanity you mentioned where we can take joy in other's suffering. he's aware that the stuff he's saying is messed up; he doesn't mean any of it, he's just pointing out that some people do think this way.
“Just picture a depressed onion cutting itself.” 😂
Lol that guy with the red hair was a timed joke as we called it years ago cause it took a second to sink in 😂😆
3:43 its supposed to be like the sound people make when they are sobbing, and cant catch their breath. (ever heard a toddler cry)
Word of the day! Schadenfreude. Pleasure derived from another's misfortune.
The German word Schadenfreude (pronounced shodden-froy-duh) roughly translates to 'pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune'.
I love this mans videos. So professional lol

The red hair joke references the red headed stepchild, which is arguably the worst sibling to be. (I think)

The weird "shivering" sounds he makes is him pretending to cry because cause the song is so sad
“Comedians should wait 20 years to make fun of tragedy”
Gilbert gottfried “hold my beer aflac”
You remind me of Raymond Holt from Brooklyn Nine-nine so much 😃
27 years technically "South Park - Aids episode
The red hair thing started with a south park joke like 20 years ago I think lol
To be fair, "hair" does go over your head.

It's brilliant because he implies that having red hair is as bad as a kitten dying or the boy with the ice cream. It's probably from the "gingers have no souls" meme.
The onion joke has layers
You cautiously waiting for the punchlines is perfect!
I completely agree on the 20 year rule, unless one was directly involved or affected by it. Full respect, love your videos. 🤘🏻
ironically, a person with only one eye is the only person who can enjoy a 3D movie
Kids with red hair are weirdly made fun of, but adults with red hair are weirdly lusted after. Life is weird.
Just FYI, Anthony Jeselnik is a savage they have not canceled, and he literally makes jokes out of tragedies, immediately.
Thoughts and Prayers was a special I wasn’t ready for
The common joke about Red Haired Folks is "Gingers don't have souls."
Gingers don't have souls, we all know this fact of life.
- A soulless ginger
I really want you to breakdown the layers of madness that is words words words
Do I remember Ancient Rome? Nah, I’m only 673 years old, little before my time.

Great reaction! I kind of figure that if Joan Rivers was able to go on stage the night her husband killed himself and make jokes about it, then tragedy can equal comedy immediately. it all depends on the intent and the audience!
Not too different from Weird Al. Both his parents died together unexpectedly. He performed a concert the same night.
Is he singing about his path into comedy? He soothes his sadness with jokes?
Him: I think 20 years is how long you have to wait until you can joke about it.
Me: He clearly hasn't heard of Anthony Jeselnik.
Comedy = tragedy + time
If only funny if it isn't happening to you. His song Sh#t is a good one and God Perspective I think ud love that one
The red hair is a joke about gingers. Also you should check out Tim Minchin hes another great musical comedian!
Wish I thought of this last month but I kind of want to see a reaction to Stamper Fat refund
@4:48
I wonder why he doesn't get why people having different hair colors would make fun of each other... 😂😂
More bo please
Your commentary brought me back to Tool’s Vicarious
You know have to see Anthony Jeselniks set about making jokes the day of tragedys. Shark Party is hilarious and worth the watch.
Comedy = Tragedy + Time
Was it the fact that hair was involved that confused you?
Check out Anthony Jeselnik... There's no such thing as "too soon." The day of the Boston marathon he tweeted "there are lines that just should not be crossed... Today it was the finish line." 🤭

Well if the limit is 20 years then right now both examples are over 20 years ago
He is just pointing out that so many people think they are edgy or have a dark sense of humor because they make jokes about sad stuff all the time now.

Or Bo's God's Perspective (the 2013 version)
bo's been around for like 10 years plus now. yall sleepin
I'm his special he basically says time+tragedy=comedy
Time= money
Tragedy = 9/11
9/11+money=comedy?
Or something like that lol
6:17 no I don’t
