I didn't update mine at all, since it's an older car. It comes pre-programmed with a lot of car Makes and Models, but if you need the latest, then yes you will have to update it with the Autel software.
Thank you for your comment about the fact that the sensors can't be programmed above 10 PSI. I've already installed new sensors and aired up the tires prior to attempting to program them, which failed. I'll remove the air from the tires and will try again.
I did that one time too. I jacked up the car and removed the valve stem core to take the air out, then programmed it, and re-inflated. You have to hold the tool REALLY close to the stem to get it to work. It took a few tries, but it worked.

Can the sensor id be recreated once written? Or overwritten and new id generated as in a reflash?
A new ID can be re-flashed again after it's written the first time, yes. This only works on Autel sensors though, OEM sensors have one fixed ID.
It will only allow flashing when it's below 10PSI though, so if it's installed and the tire is inflated, it won't allow it.
Once buying the programming tool will the device need to be updated on autels website ? Or do they come programmed depending on buyer ?

I think the 10PSI was meant as a security feature, so somebody with the tool can't re-program your sensors easily.
That was a great demonstration 👍.
Thanks, I try my best. And thanks for watching.
