  • Front cam seal replacement: 1 to 2 hours ($25 / $115 / $425)
    In this video I replaced the front cam seal on a 1998 Volvo S70. This will be the same for most Volvo cars with the non-VVT hub.

    Robert, I'm the guy that bought one of your white block Front Cam Seal tools last week. Thank you for the super fast shipping. FYI for everybody: Robert's cam tool works great. The tool makes it super easy to set the cam seal in at just the right depth. A+++++

    Thanks again Robert! I was able to navigate your videos and found that ours is the intake Cam seal that's leaking! quick other question: do you know if the timing belt tensioner arm should be moving around while the engine is running? (the piece that sticks up that you can move to loosen the tensioner) it is moving left and right while the car is running...tnx Derek

    I have 05 volvo s70 turbo, I have changed pcv box and hoses, cam seals and added the missing one from factory, a new timing belt kit and oil and filter change, I'm still getting the cam seal on intake side popping out and spitting oil onto the timing belt, any other things I should pay attention to?

      Is there pressure in the head? Is there wear on the cam or head? Is the seal fitting tight? What kind of car do you have because Volvo did not make a 05 S70? Also, I have tools to help you install the seals without damaging them on my website.

    been looking for a video like this...my front cams are the only items i havnt replaced on my engine..it still puddles up top and comes out the back and dribbles down on the exhaust manifold and smokes more and more..i replaced the pcv ,,new oil cap..rear cam seals and full tuneup. Im a lil nervous to mess with the timing. ive been told if your gonna pull the belt..might ass well replace the rest. i wouldve liked to have seen more video footage when you removed the tensioner and how you applied the c-clamp. i was left a lil lost.

    • @christopherpaden7161
      @christopherpaden7161 8 років тому

      +uncasluv Clean the PTC (where your pvc lines hook up to before the turbo) chances are you have a clog down there thats still causing pressure to build up. Even if the little 1/8" nipple for the line that runs to the side of the intake is clogged, you can still get enough pressure to blow oil out of the oil cap.

    Robert. I am in the process of doing my timing belt, tensioner, rollers and water pump on my Gul T5R.
    I have noticed oil build up on bottom of timing cover near the crank sprocket. I believe i need to replace both front seals. I will buy the OEM volvo seals just to have peace of mind and do the job once.
    Do i loosen both the intake and exhaust camshaft sproket bolts once timing has been set and BEFORE loosening the timing belt tensioner?
    thanks for the feed back.
    i must say its a bit nerve wracking to mess with time sprokets but your videos help to ease the nerves!
    Thanks

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  8 років тому +1

      +Marior Castillo-Azucar Are you sure it's oil build up? Any minor leaks in the cover will look dirty. Nine times out of 10 it's a minor water pump that is leaking. At any rate, you always align the timing first, then mark things, then knock the bolts loose, then take the belt off.

    How did you break the cam sprocket bolts loose, Robert? The manual shows some kind of special holder to keep the sprocket steady while torque is applied to the bolts but I assume you used something else.

      @@RobertDIY Sorry Robert. The car is a 1992 Volvo 960 and I am changing a camshaft seal. I was using your video to do the job and you did not reveal how you broke the bolts loose from the camshaft pulley. The factory manual calls for a counter torque special tool. A mechanic friend of mine came around and jammed a screwdriver in place to hold the camshaft sprocket in place while he disconnected the three bolts. I now have the seal in place and the sprocket bolts torqued. I am not much of a mechanic I am sorry to say and I rely on your videos to show me the way.
