    Throw the little ones back, this fishery has been hammered, this time of year 20 years ago every fish I caught was a gaffer. Now most are peanuts

      @@marathonsportfishing Well too many people chasing a limited resource. Dolphin and tuna are highly migratory so the commercial guys in Mexico and the Caribbean hammered them as they move north to the Carolina's in the gulf stream. If I was king I'd ban importation of highly migratory fish. By the time they get to us most are gone

      @308_holes hey dummy you are full of shite from the NOAA website
      Pacific mahimahi grow fast, up to 7 feet and 88 pounds.
      They live up to 5 years.
      They are capable of reproducing at 4 to 5 months old.
      They are believed to spawn every 2 to 3 days throughout their entire spawning season (perhaps year-round), releasing 33,000 to 66,000 eggs each time.
      Pacific mahimahi are top predators that feed in surface waters during the day.
      They eat a wide variety of species, including small pelagic fish, juvenile tuna, invertebrates, billfish, jacks, pompano, and pelagic larvae or nearshore, bottom-living species.
      Predators include large tuna, marine mammals, marlin, sailfish, and swordfish

    Awesome Mahi madness! That was an awesome school you have found! We are heading your way in a week and renting a boat in the next few days. Do you think a 23’ Mako CC w/ 175 HP 4-Stroke engine can handle the waves and the wind out there? We are planning to create lots of videos for our Canadian subscribers. Thank you so much for any advice and tips you can give. Tight lines!

    10 fish for 2 people. Nice job. And we wonder why mahi fishery has declined. As a charter capt would hope for setting better example.

    • @marathonsportfishing
      @marathonsportfishing  7 місяців тому

      Hey Bob, thanks for tuning in. The reason I kept 10 is because I have family that wanted some fish. Normally we keep just a few. I don't think the average angler is the reason for the decline. I'm guessing the heavy commercial fishery may have something to do with it.

    • @bobstevens7456

      Really appreciate your taking the time to reply. Shows your dedication and commitment to your channel. Just as a point of reference, the recreational take is 9,000,000 pounds and the commercial take is. 210,000 pounds according to the latest NOAA info. Just wanted to make the point that is important as recreational fishermen that we respect the resource. Continued good luck in your well done channel.

    • @marathonsportfishing
      @marathonsportfishing  5 місяців тому

      No creo que estén al borde de la extensión. Todos los peces que mantuvimos superaban el límite de 20" para la especie.

  • @hansgruber2509
    @hansgruber2509 8 місяців тому +1

    What is sad about the mahi fishery is the rec fishermen were the ones pushing to reduce the bag limits after the fishery collapsed. The know-nothing govmit officials that "manage" these fisheries are clueless buffoons. They let the cod fishery collapse due to over fishing and it has never recovered even after 20 years.
    Take what you need and stop with the I need to have the biggest body count at the dock. That will save the fishery
