Air Jordan 6 Iridescent Restoration

- Scratched leather, scuffed paint and yellowing... This sounds like a straight forward and simple Jordan 6 restoration, but matching that iridescent paint can be challenging. In today's episode of Customs and Restorations with Vick he will walk you through every step you need to restore even the most beat pair of Jordan's.
As always you have to start with a clean slate. To get this sneaker clean we relied on the RESHOEVN8R Signature Cleaning Kit. We don't always put leather sneakers in the wash, but when it comes to used sneakers it is a must! We picked these up for $50 on eBay and we have no idea who had their foot in these sneakers before we got them.
Vick cleaned the entire sneaker using the pretreatment method with all 3 brushes and the natural solution before throwing them in the wash for a true disinfecting. Once these were washed it was time to move over to the harder steps!
We start with the prep work of course! Also known as the most important part of any restoration. We had to sand the sneaker and prep it to repair those tough scratches and for a solid paint job. After the sneaker was sanded and ready we went ahead and started to fill in the scratches. Now you can follow these steps for any leather repair on your sneakers.
With the leather filler applied it was time for more sanding! The reason for this is to ensure that we have a smooth surface to repaint. Without this step our paint job would look completely botched. After all that it was time for the challenging part...Color matching that color shifting paint job.
To match this we had to mix up a couple different methods since the first mix was way too dark! Once the color was mixed up all that was left to do was apply it and hope for the best. The main key is that powder mixture to make any paint job iridescent.
Well we made it through the challenging part and the uppers are good to go. All that is left to do is take care of the yellowing on the outsole. Oxidation is going to happen on sneakers whether you wear them or not, so PSA just wear your kicks. To remove this we had to start by placing this in the Vick 2000 and let the UV rays work their magic.

should've just touched up the scratch spots and not repainting the whole shoe, it kinda threw the color off

I think it did threw the color off. The original color had a better effect. But just touching up the scratched parts wouldve make them not match and look weird. Definitly painting all of it was the way to go

For everyone commenting about colour… it’s so hard sometimes to colour match, but for this pair, Alpha6 sell a Mermaid iridescent paint which would have worked better.
or a deep, metallic green base for the pigment.
But, I still think these look great, gonna look for a pair to do myself.

Nice Job, but you should've used it 2 separate layers, and not mixed the Pigment with the paint.
Layer the base colour (Black/Blue) then the Chameleon shift pigment mixed with clear colour as the second layer.
That's how color-shifting paint works.
We might try it the next time.

The pearl was supposed to go over top of the black 🤦🏾♂️
Sooo.. unfortunately these didn't work out so well, the "paint" on the shoe wasn't paint. It was an ink. What should have happened is you should have mixed clear satin acrylic base with your irridescent glitter/mica and thinned it with some airbrush thinner. The problem was, you repainted the whole shoe with an opaque paint. You lost the iridescence and replaced it with metallic. Where you went wrong is mixing the iridescent pigment with the color, if you had shadowed the shoe with a thinned black ink, and highlighted with a thinned blue ink and sprayed the thinned clear and iridescent pigment you'd have something amazing.
And even with all that, you should have only done the damaged areas

I think you would've been better off using a 1st coat of a tealish blue, and then spraying the chameleon pigment. Came out clean though. Nice job!

Can you use salon care 40 on something thats not white, say grey or black?

Watched a few video's and want to know how do you determine what shoes go in the washer and which don't
It really just depends on how dirty the sneakers are. We recommend it for mesh, knit, canvas sneakers or even some leather sneakers to fully flush them out. Suede/ nubuck materials you have to be really careful with. One other way to gauge it would be to do the pretreatment and see if they bleed any color; if they do don't put them in the wash.

Using brushes does not depend on time. You need to clean complete shoe with all 3 brushes.

Whoever had those Jordans didn't wear them much judging by the sole. How the uppers got damaged like that with limited wear time is anyone's guess. Having a sole with minimal wear is probably what he was looking for to make restoration easier.
Hello. I just bought Jumpman two trey Jordans in black/white/red. I want to paint the midsole from white to black. I don't have a pressure gun, so is it better to do it with a brush or a sponge?And should I spray it with clear lacquer at the end?
The brush can give a better finish. We usually use Krylon matte finish to finish the paint job and protect them.
