What a fantastic game. Given the conditions and the 1960’s ball, both sides were brilliant. Nothing between in the 1st half but as the 2nd goes on England look much stronger, the equaliser must have been a huge shock. A third and comfortable win seemed far more likely in the proceeding 10-15mins. There’s obviously aspects of modern football you can say have improved, but you wish more important games had this approach from both sides.

This game is really entertaining, but it also proves how much the game has gotten better. In comparison to today's standards they look like division 2 players. They are even a bit sloppy on the ball. But, obviously, it couldn't be any other way.
The only thing this game proves compared to nowadays football is that back then the pace was higher and that the level of athleticism was phenomenal, in opposite to the narrative that says "oh, the athleticism of todays players..." blahblablah And of course, differences of the game regarding the pass of time are caused by different tacticts, rules and equipment. Skills in football are still the same (as far as I know, humans still have 2 legs and the ball it's still round) and that's the definitory aspect of the game that will never change because it's what makes football football, and what allows us to recognize this old game a football game, and not a basketball game.

The third goal by England looks like it bounces over the line, but the argument that the reaction of the striker shows that doesn't make much sense, he is rolling away on the ground while the other striker *is* pursuing the ball still to try and bury it.

Note how England didn't pass the ball back constantly or back to the goalkeeper. Can someone please show the England team of today that you pass forward!! When Banks booted the ball down the pitch, it only came back via an opposition player.
