I really hope I will see this kind of football of Germany in my lifetime again. Since 2017 its been mostly horrible. It was incredible how Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Özil and Müller exploited the free space and it looked so effortless keeping the ball. Frank Lampard is one of my all-time English fav players and it was great to see the chat and shirt exchange after the match with Bastian.

Germany was so much better in this game from start to finish. That being said, we don't know how how the game might have evolved, had Lampards Gowl been allowed ( I'm German and it was a clear Goal, no doubt or question about it!)
We were absolutely shocking. This was our worst tournament I saw overall. No passion in the team. No cohesiveness between the players. We barely got through a group with USA, Slovenia & Algeria. As soon as I saw we were up against Germany I knew we were finally going to be exposed for what we really were. Even if that goal had counted (which it clearly should have) it would have made no difference. Argentina also would have smashed our doors off if we'd got through either way. Thank you for knocking this embarrassment of a team out.
That missed called goal certainly took it's toll. England hustled hard to equalize, and 2 of Germany's goals came on counters when England over pressed. It is what it is though, Germany was truly the better team.
It was not a clear goal at all from the referee's perspective. That's what matters. Englands' Wembley 1966 goal vs Germany was VERY clearly NOT a goal from the referees' perspective though.
And yes we do know how the game would have gone even with that english goal. They would have still lost the same way only with 1 goal more with the scoreline being 4:2 as Germany outplayed England nonetheless before and after that Lampard shot. Or do you think that the German players' mentality would have completly crumbled simply because England tie the game making it 1:1 ?? Really?

Then when it hit's the bar again, it changes back to the ball Lampard kicked initially. So technically, this ball never was behind the line in Bloemfontein. Very skillfully spotted by the officials!
Funny but in all honesty it must have been really hard for the officials to notice. It all happened so fast, so close to the line and the side-line official was too far off the goalline. Also yet no goalline technology implemented during that time.
I forgot about how great of a match this was. Wonderful watch for sure! Though I'm a German fan so that helps but neither team won that year so in the end it didn't matter anyhow lol. Schweinsteiger was easily the best midfielder in the world cup (not considering 10s), easily bossed all the knockout matches except against spain where khedira was suspended, they probably would have won with no injuries since they lost the midfield battle. What a game it was, it is still enjoyable, eventhough it has been 13 years ago. Both teams played with passion to go through to the next phase of the competition. The German played more collectively and rewarded with the 4-1 victory. What a generation! What an excellent match! This game would also contribute to the drastic change to the world football, with the introduction of VAR, due to the Lampard's goal disallowance. Football game is no more the same anymore.

That missed called goal certainly took it's toll. England hustled hard to equalize, and 2 of Germany's goals came on counters when England over pressed. It is what it is though, Germany was truly the better team.
It was not a clear goal at all from the referee's perspective. That's what matters. Englands' Wembley 1966 goal vs Germany was VERY clearly NOT a goal from the referees' perspective though.
And yes we do know how the game would have gone even with that english goal. They would have still lost the same way only with 1 goal more with the scoreline being 4:2 as Germany outplayed England nonetheless before and after that Lampard shot. Or do you think that the German players' mentality would have completly crumbled simply because England tie the game making it 1:1 ?? Really?

When you look really closely, you can see lampards shot going through a wormhole and seemingly being replaced with the famous goal of Wembley 1966. Then when it hit's the bar again, it changes back to the ball Lampard kicked initially. So technically, this ball never was behind the line in Bloemfontein. Very skillfully spotted by the officials!
They're just swapping the goals to be fair to both sides, I'm glad the referees caught wind of this
Funny but in all honesty it must have been really hard for the officials to notice. It all happened so fast, so close to the line and the side-line official was too far off the goalline. Also yet no goalline technology implemented during that time.
Remember watching this over tea and just feeling absolutely sick with Upson especially. Still perplexed on how that geezer made the team!

What a game it was, it is still enjoyable, eventhough it has been 13 years ago. Both teams played with passion to go through to the next phase of the competition. The German played more collectively and rewarded with the 4-1 victory. What a generation! What an excellent match!
This game would also contribute to the drastic change to the world football, with the introduction of VAR, due to the Lampard's goal disallowance. Football game is no more the same anymore.
