0:42 - that is actually very easy to explain. Apparently, in those twenty years the prawns learned English, just like humans did learn the prawn language. However, the build of their "mouths" makes it for them anatomically impossible to pronounce human words. They know the language, but they cannot speak it themselves. But they still understand what a human says. Same thing with humans - they know the prawn language, but they cannot pronounce "words" in it. They picked South Africa, where the history of being integrated into a peaceful co-existence with the ruling race had one of the spottiest records on earth.
They could have actually ended the movie like that. I don't think a whole sequel about an alien invasion would actually be that good, that particular genre has been done to death. District 9 on the other hand was really clever in that it told a story about apartheid and allowed us to experience the dilemma without prejudice. Any movie that changes the way you think is a masterpiece in my opinion.
Apartheid isn't large, it's esoteric. If it's something you personally use regularly for whatever reason, that's fine, but for most it's going to be odd to see. Seems like you're both kind of shitheads. Also, I agree that that would have been a bad ending. It would have turned the take away of the movie on its head. You felt bad for the aliens and the way they're mistreated, but if they came back all independence day, you'd lose a lot of the sympathy for them. Still, HISHE is less about what would have made a better movie, and more about what would realistically happen. Realistically the advanced aliens that we felt so bad for would have come back and nuked us from orbit. When the oppressed take a position of power, it's usually just a matter of time before they become the oppressors.
For those of you speculating on a sequel, just watch Battle: Los Angeles, terrible as it was. That's pretty much what Christopher's friends are going to do to us when he comes back.
I don't think Neil Blompkamp would make that kind of movie. Besides District 9 was great, it was realistic in a social commentary sort of way that focused on our racists attitude toward the Prawns after spending 30 years with them... You are in the minority, because District 9 is a fascinating movie and I can't wait for Chappie, Neil Blompkamp's next movie
In one of the sequel screens I saw, they had found Wikus and was able to use his blood and dna needed to make the weapons work with humans, eventually over the next couple of years that had amassed enough that when the Aliens return with a war was more epic since they were not prepared for humans using their tech. Also, it was a combination of a prequel because it shows most of what happened in the 20 years when they first arrived and even the aliens planet which oddly had some humans on it. WTF?
I finally saw District 9 today for the first time. It was awesome. One of my favorite parts about watching movies that have been out for a while is watching all of the fan videos that came from them.
I laughed at the part where he said "Have you ever noticed how easily we are communicating in seperate laanguages?" But they do actually explain that in the movie. His job is to communicate to the Prawns that they are supposed to evacuate there camp and go to "District 10," so he did actually learn the language.
IMO there was a sequel. District 9 was set in 2009, and Christopher said he would be back in 3 years. 2009+3 = 2012, aka the movie where everything goes wrong for earth.
As to my knowledge their should be a sequel to district 9 named District 10, a "They are back but not alone." It is hard to get much knowledge on if they go through with it. But I am designing my concepts for weaponry and vehicles for the film, so I hope it does go forward good-luck to us all.
They did make a sequel. It's just called "Battle: Los Angeles" though. And honestly, considering what Christopher is going to tell his people about humans, you can bet they're going to come back and declare war on us.
Mike Souza Except there were troops there with United Nations (so basically from every country), and I'm pretty sure the main protagonist soldier dude was American.

Pretty late with this but... The Nigerians hated it and pointed out the director was a hypocrite because IRL Nigerians are poor immigrants to South Africa. However all the Nigerians were portrayed with all the stereotypes the South Africans have about them. It would be like doing a movie set in the US being sympathetic to the plight of immigrants, but replacing the immigrants with a fantastic species, while portraying all the Latinos as their worst stereotypes and a danger to society.
I'm not even sure Neil's idea of the movie was for the aliens to want revenge. I dare say if they came back it would just be to collect their lost brothers (and sisters). Or if he even ever thought that he'd make a sequel. The idea was just "what would it be like if this happened". And I think it was approached pretty damn well!
District 10 shouldn't be an invasion. It should be about the prawns living in District 10 and what they go through. It's called District 10, not District 9 2.
C.A. PRODUCTIONS Is it really being called District 10 though? The sequel itself is not official because the director is onto his next project after Chappie.
Brian Thomson I mean, it should show how the prawns evolve and gain rights in society and later become one with the humans, y know, like Marting Luther King Jr.
I really hope we get a District 10 movie one day. I know what Im about to say is kind of cliche and possibly sequelitis, but I really like the idea of an alien invasion movie with Christopher coming back to attack us humans because of how horribly we treated them as a race, tortured them, harvested their body parts, racism, etc. Mostly, I'd love to see Christopher and Wikus meet up again. And I would be curious if Wikus would still want to go back to his old life, or become the first human to fully migrate to becoming one of the prawn aliens as a race.
yea i figured that later on. What it first sounded like was "oh shit i forgot to bring the technology to change you back cuz i was focusing on the war effort"

It has been confirmed that a sequel to District 9, "District 13" Will be coming out in 2017. It'll be about a poor Prawn living under an oppressive government where every year, one boy and one girl will be forced to fight in a battle royale. Except none of them are Japanese. And this one has nice hair. Oh, and it'll fall in love with some fuck who can bake nice pies.
This movie never quite explained how all these super high tech weapons are just lying around and nobody except the aliens can use them, yet these aliens never seem to pick them up and start wiping out all the humans that treat them lick shit!
But it did imply the reasons why. At first the humans were helping them, they were sick on the ship. When they came down to the camps at first it was for health care and food. They didn’t want to turn guns on those who'd helped them. The unfair gun laws started small like "no guns in the camp, for your own safety"... and at first it made sense to comply because they had been helped by humans. But too late they realized they were trapped and in trouble; it had happened so quietly they hadn’t thought to fight it. That's where we started the movie; aliens starving, violence being done to them, and their weapons stolen by MNU or tricked from them for cat food.
The movie says that the Prawns on the ship were working caste drones without any motivation or ability to organise without commands from leader caste members (who were all dead with the possible exception of Christopher Johnson).
Here is the thing about sequels. District Nine was a great movie, but to make a sequel that lives up to its predecessor is almost impossible. This is because the sequel will always be compared against the original, and since we have a standard from which to base this new concept on, the concept is no longer new and now just doomed to forever live in the shadow casted by the original. This goes for every new idea, which is why action movies can be so overdone without failing. It's not a new thing, it's just the same thing with a different skin and new paint. And I am sure any District Nine fan would not like to see their favorite movie blend into the backround.
A lot of sequels are better than the original. But I agree, more often than not they are worse if not terrible. District 9 is definitely a film that should not get a sequel, it would ruin the ending which is open to interpretation as to what could happen next
A. Schutte The one from 2001 was my favorite of the ape movies in my opinion because it had a spaceship in it, and that is my only reason why it's my favorite over the new ones.
Well then you are very easily pleased. I myself hated the 2001 Tim Burton apes film. The new films do tease the whole spaceship thing, kind of an easter egg.

Am I seriously the only guy that saw this movie and took from it the idea that the "alien" ship was never actually alien to begin with, but that they were a branch of humans that got infected with the same thing the main character did, and they had been coming back to earth because it was their home planet, but by the time they got there they were too far gone into their transformation to be understood? and by the time they could be understood, the normal humans had already pretty much forced everyone into a ghetto so they couldn't be bothered to worry about more than basic survival and/or drugging themselves with catfood to ease the pain of their existence?

It would be like doing a movie set in the US being sympathetic to the plight of immigrants, but replacing the immigrants with a fantastic species, while portraying all the Latinos as their worst stereotypes and a danger to society.
we want a sequel with that!!!
Don't you think that's a win win, I mean the aliens where going to enslave the human race and he was lucky to become the dominant species.
Enslave? Exterminate... :)
Tomas K
enslave .... otherwise who would produce cat food.. !?
aaaaahhh... i see... good point!
BabyOxide Cts wl mk d fd obvsly :D
Hilarious! Can’t believe there isn’t more of this!
How come they didn't make District 10 about Wikus being a human being again?
Did you know this movie has the fewest sins of any film of all time on "Cinema Sins" (with a mere 28)?
This film is flawless.
I know this is a joke and all but their warships probably look a lot different, those ships were probably for collecting resources and such...
Chris's boy running away with the cat food was precious!
I just died laughing. Genius ending!!!!!!
Even though it undoes the movies whole message lol!
At least Christopher came back in three years in this one
4 years ago man time flies
Super Hooper now almost 9
10
I think this may be my favorite, well done!
Do Elysium!! That movie has way too many convenient plot devices.
They probably did
Nicolas Villegas I couldn't find it.
Um my bad they haven't done it. I got mixed up with Cinemasins
the people in the movie had awesome south African accents
That's because they were South Aftrican
LotusEater14 Ha! XD
in this these are not South African accents my bru
Cos they are South Africans
fockin prawns
District 10 shouldn't be an invasion. It should be about the prawns living in District 10 and what they go through. It's called District 10, not District 9 2.
C.A. PRODUCTIONS Is it really being called District 10 though? The sequel itself is not official because the director is onto his next project after Chappie.
barbaro267 Well, he made an 18 page treatment for D10, so we don't know.
C.A. PRODUCTIONS Wouldn't that be pretty much the same as District 9 then?
Brian Thomson I mean, it should show how the prawns evolve and gain rights in society and later become one with the humans, y know, like Marting Luther King Jr.
C.A. PRODUCTIONS lol u cant compare black and white peolpe with humans and aliens
And I would be curious if Wikus would still want to go back to his old life, or become the first human to fully migrate to becoming one of the prawn aliens as a race.
wait so at 1:28 he goes I forgot about making you human again. Then later on he goes "if u wanna change now you still can." What lol
huh? I'm saying he contradicted himself, as in that part was poorly scripted
yea i figured that later on. What it first sounded like was "oh shit i forgot to bring the technology to change you back cuz i was focusing on the war effort"
"No, I'll just stay this way...I think"
No he forgot but he still has the tech to do it it’s just he forgor💀
LMFAOOOOOO I JUST STAY THIS WAY I THINK!🤣🤣🤣🤣💯😎
aliens talk like geonosian xD
This has been your best one HISHE.
Bomkamp is doing an Aliens movie. I'm excited.
Docktor Jim nope
South Africa: *Decides To Be Xenophobe*
The Rest Of The World: Oh No, Anyway
3 Years Pass
Aliens: *Invade The Entire Planet Because They Think It's All South Africa*
The Rest Of The World: Well Sh-
This is brilliant and all hopes District 10 is released soon
0:55 He sounds exactly like Toki Wartooth from Metalocalypse. Good to see his "thumb" cut off... but then it comes back (regeneration? do prawns have regen?) later at the end.
More like what Humanity deserved in the end.
yeah :)
Yeah because billions of humans are responsible for the actions of a handful of leaders and their jack-booted thugs.
I understand pessimism is cool when you're a teenager but your shit is just stupid.

Все люди одинаковые. Не зависит богатый или бедный. Уничтожить всех!!!)))
ДАНИЛА Павлов Все на тебя не похоже .
YEA SCREW HUMANITY
Thus, began the 7 Hour War.
That was hilarious and yes, that's exactly how it should have ended.
honestly it wouldve been so much better having the end scene be a bunch of ships coming to earth with an angle from space
Nah, this is funnier
"No, I'll just stay this way I think" 😂
to be fair humans did have this ending coming.

Yeah for real especially when Christopher saw that whole lab of his people getting dissected, disemboweled etc... and exactly yes he should hate wickus for hitting for him in the head and being reckless.
1:49 my favorite part lol
The ending with the cats had me in tears laughing so hard!
Let’s see how spot on the sequel prediction was now that the sequel has been announced
Source on this? Please tag me if anyone could answer, much thanks!
This movie was not a parody.
Sheesh
It is apartheid with aliens.
Not a parody.

He didn't excuse rape, just used simpel logic. Do you honestly belive ther would be less rape with the appartheit intact ? What is your solution then mister, throwing them out of their own country ?
They're going Independence Day on Earth.
I imaginged Cartman saying- "No Kitty, that's a BAD Kitty!!!"
Arcralf ok we have pubg now

This is still the movie I most wanted a sequel to ever. 😊

District 9> Avatar
And dserved a sequel even more so.
2:10 well I will just stay this way I think
Good choice lmao .. even if he changes back he will the only human on earth LOL
Finally! I watched this ages ago, but I finally understand it fully now. Huzzah!
Yeah and also there is something about a movie that makes its fans want more.
This episode of District 9 of HISHE pretty much allready has told what a possible squel would look like. It's done with Earth pretty quickly :p
"Think you could get my wife in on this?"
Finally JUST watched this movie in it's entirety, after 6 years ago, getting almost 10 minutes in before.passing out.
Now my favorite part of watching movies is checking for the HISHE of it
Am I seriously the only guy that saw this movie and took from it the idea that the "alien" ship was never actually alien to begin with, but that they were a branch of humans that got infected with the same thing the main character did, and they had been coming back to earth because it was their home planet, but by the time they got there they were too far gone into their transformation to be understood? and by the time they could be understood, the normal humans had already pretty much forced everyone into a ghetto so they couldn't be bothered to worry about more than basic survival and/or drugging themselves with catfood to ease the pain of their existence?
I think, you are the only guy that thought that. I honestly don't want to think it that way either.
yeah but district 9 turned into battle los Angeles
Damn, that is an interesting way of interpreting the movie. I kind of like it.
+christmastiger thanks
You're going too deep into it lmfao.
2019 somone?
I'm surprised that a lot of people didn't like this movie. that's one of my favorites.
Excellent clip by the way.
Why not Zoidberg? (V)(O,,,O)(V)
District 9 was a great movie with a great message behind it. The ending did suck balls though. This would legitimately have been a better ending. lol
best hishe XD. in that movie humanity deserves that ending
Woowww wtf this was as good as the movie! You are really creative thank you🥺💚
lol this ending was beautiful. i hope District 10 is like this 🤣😂🤣
That would make it lame and kinda mindless, the miracle black gue was already too far.
