You missed a crucial point. To begin with, brand Audi never commanded the same snob value as Mercedes or even BMW. Their high sales around 2013 was an artificial creation due to massive discounts across the range. However, it wasn't a sustainable policy in the long run for obvious reasons and as soon as Audi stopped the discounts, the sales went downhill. Mercedes has and will always be the brand with the most perceived prestige among the German trio in India.
I purchased vento car 2013 -1.6 petrol - on 4th service I noticed audi symbols in engine compartment - those black colour switches parts and close inspection I found audi symbol on that Gear box and many parts I found audi marking. Just think, why people will buy audi if they find audi parts shared in vw cars. Moreover, the inside design of vw vento doors , same as audi car doors handle from inside. However vento cannot match the design and interior feel of audi. Till now just service cost i beared for my vento car - no problem- still runs as new car
Same with my my skoda rapid 1.5 tdi 2015 almost every engine part had audi and vw logo on it. Basically vw owns skoda, audi, porsche, bentley, lamborghini and many more so they share the platforms and parts. And vento and rapid are 90% same car same ac vents same dashboard same engine
I badly want my fav car brand to reach no 1 spot bcoz Audi still has a lot going for it ,many owners actually prefer the understated and timeless styling of Audis. Then, there is no doubt about the technology on offer and the quality of the materials used in their construction. There is the legendary Quattro AWD system that helped Audi become a big name in the world of rallying.
The real reason are: 1. Audi automatic boxes have issues and are very expensive to fix. 2. VW total numbers are key, including Skoda and Audi. They dont care as long as totals are going up. An example is Skoda is looked as a premium brand vs. VW in India.
The 10-15 year car scrap formula is destroying cars with 15+ lakh on road price. nobody gonna burn their 20-50 lakh for 10 year only just because it has aged.
Audi’s approach feels lackluster. Their FWD sedans may have a bit more power than rivals like the 5 Series, but they fall behind on luxury, something even the C-Class surpasses. The sportiness is also underwhelming since they’re FWD only. It’s like Audi has lost interest in the Indian market; just look at their portfolio, Mercedes offers the widest selection, followed by BMW, while Audi lags with minimal choices and limited options. The base rim options are particularly unimpressive, most models only get the basic 5-spoke design, and the A6 has just one moderately decent alternative. Even brake calipers are painted plain white, blending in with the discs and detracting from the aesthetic. Internationally, they provide the Quattro AWD on most models, but in India, it’s only on top end or performance variants. Then, the lineup itself is outdated. Newer Indian models like the Tata Harrier have more modern interiors and features. Audi could bring in fresh, appealing models like the A7, which has a stunning coupe like design and would be a solid offering in the 75-80 lakh range, or performance-oriented S variants like the S7 or S3 to add value in terms of both style and power. There was a time Audi dominated with major hype, but after discontinuing diesel and showing little effort in bringing new models with competitive specs, their appeal in India seems to have faded drastically.
4:15 I am one of them. I would prefer buying an audi instead of BMW or Mercedes as an 1st gen rich. Audi feels so personal and their design feels professional and subtle compared to Mercedes and BMW. New Gen BMW designs are so radical and looks like some chinese car. Audi still carrying that Europe design language.
Audi’s VW’s and Skoda’s USP was 2.0L diesel engine. The moment they stopped their sales dropped. Indians are mad for diesel no matter whether they drive car or keep in garages. 😂😂😂 Also Audi is killing by launching vehicles like Superb, Tiguan kodiaq which is killing its own sales. Audi misses out on few gapping models that’s offered by competitors like X6, X4, GLC, GLE coupe, LWB and electric range. Old vertual cockpit. Competition is offering better UI and graphics.
Audi should launch a big full size luxury SUV which should compete with X7 , LX500 , Vogue & GLS because in this segment they don't have any big full size luxury SUV . And they should launch A8 with V12 as option to compete with 7- series M Sport , LS500h & Maybach S-class . Even if Audi don't have any coupe suv to compete with GLE coupe AMG & X6M

It's just a matter of time when Audi will completely disappear from the Indian market just like another German car maker Opel. Initially, it's Volkswagen that would disappear, then Škoda, followed by Audi. The *reasons* for their possible disappearance in the future: _1) _*_High cost_*_ in vehicle, parts, and maintenance._ _2) _*_Small network_*_ of vehicle sales and maintenance._ _3) _*_Major parts_*_ are made _*_elsewhere_*_ and they are assembled in India._ _4) Design complexity and hard in maintenance._ _5) VW group cars are specifically designed for _*_European_*_ terrain and climate and NOT for Indian or South Asian climate._ _6) Associations with Chinese engineering._ _7) _*_Failure_*_ in adaptation to EVs or Hybrid power train._ This may or will apply to Porsche, Bentley, and Lamborghini in the future.
Not updating there cars on time, and not having car models that the consumer would like to buy like the rs3, rs6, rs7 or the A7, and many more, these were brought to india but at the wrong time
Indian customers have become more aware. Audi is considered more of a glorified VW (Which is true, the switches and a lot of common parts across the polo to the Q7 which hurts sentiment). Massive discounts (Q7 at the cost of GLC/ X3 is crazy), No diesel and a lot of CBUs being pushed in instead of CKDs. Also a lot of people admire brands owned by their favorite stars (cricket, movie etc) and these people have moved to Maybach, Bentley, Rolls royce and Range Rover. When was the last you saw a celebrity come out of a Q7? The last time was when GLS was not launched. Today the GLS (A category in which Audi does NOT have any car) rules with over 2200 units sold per year. Thats one third of the ENTIRE volume of Audi in India. They stopped with Q7 (Which is GLE/ X5/ RR Sport/ Cayenne competition and NO its not equivalent to GLS/ X7). So people dont associate luxury with Audi anymore. And there in lies the decline.
As a fleet operator, I've had my share of experiences with luxury cars, and Audi has been the worst by far. My Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series have clocked over 200,000 to 300,000 km, with maintenance costs around 2-4 lakhs per year. But the Audi Q7, despite being the latest generation with only 70,000 km on it, had an engine failure. I also dealt with two Audi A6 C7 4Gs (Matrix) with mechatronic and steering rack failures. After all these issues, I finally sold off all my Audi cars, and my company won’t be considering Audi again. It's been a total nightmare. On the other hand, BMW has been a best friend compared to the other two brands. Having a BMW under warranty and service pack is like owning a Swift in the luxury segment-reliable and worry-free. They break less often, and almost everything is covered under warranty, unlike Mercedes, which lacks in a few areas compared to BMW. That’s why I keep adding newer BMWs to the fleet.
I know why they are failing. No diesel engines unlike BMW and Merc. Also, designs remaining similar, especially interiors. I have owned 2 Q7s and just planning to upgrade to the new Q8 but it's a shame that even yesterday's launch is similar to the 5 year old outgoing model. Interior is identical.
There's not much difference between audi and vw cars. The previous gen octavia had more features than the A4 at that time, and was cheaper by 18 lakhs. Even the build quality and interior were almost the same. They did not improve compared their rivals. People stopped buying Audi eventually because they felt merc or bmw would be better.
Nonsense video Only reason people are not buying audi is because there is no brand identity. BMW and MERC are launching soe crazy sporty cars for eg. all new bmw m340i and new merc C series .
