I did my PPL check ride with Smitty, any long time DFW area aviators probably have dealt with Smitty at one time or another. I had absolutely thought I failed the check ride, he made no comments until after we landed, at which point told me I had just flew my first passenger. I think Joe would have been much better to have done the check ride with.
We record our season's worth in two days about every 6 months. I might do a live special or soemthing before, but don't have anythign scheduled at moment.
I'm curious how we can get in touch with Joe to schedule a check ride. I haven't had any luck finding his info (probably not searching with the right filters) and would love to learn more about connecting with him!

Well, it’s not as simple as “an envelope of cash”. You’re paying someone for their time. It’s no different than any other type of exam operation. When you take your written, you hand the proctor money (in some form) and it’s a pass/fail operation. If you think simply by handing cash (or a payment) to a DPE somehow guarantees your passing the test, that’s a bit shortsighted... I know a number of students who paid for their exam and never even got to the airplane with a failed status.
I'm sorry if what I said was misconstrued. In this era of a cashless society, it just seems weird that other payment forms aren't used for DPE's like PayPal or others. I did not mean to suggest that cash=pass. I'm just wondering why that is the method used.
Don't be nervous. Yeah that's like telling water not to be wet. I was nearly crapping myself (Literally). I did take pepto bismol before my instrument checkride and it's a good thing because my DPE was complete JERK.
Yea for you and not giving up on your first, second, third, fourth (maybe more) attempts, I watched the Saturday "short clips" and felt for you the entire time. I also watched the "test" before this on Sunday. One problem with watching these on my 65 inch television is the lack of comment ability being too cheap to buy a wireless keyboard for the television!

Joe is a great DPE. I myself did my CFII with him and sent some students to him. Joe is the best!

Set up an interview where a fresh DPE candidate was evaluated on a DPE checkride discussing what they went through.

Brian - ah.. yeah I think I misunderstood. But I think it is really dependent upon the DPE.
