  • We knocked out 25 episodes of Red Dot Forum Camera Talk in 2020 on UA-cam Live, covering every major Leica camera system and new release, discussed gearing up for different types of photo outings, how to handle post processing, talked about photo technique, and much, much more. And while answering hundreds of viewer questions live on air, we have certainly had our fair share of moments - some funny, others nerdy, and a few just downright embarrassing. So, we present you, fine viewer, a compilation of our silliest, most awkward, and top entertaining moments from Red Dot Forum Camera Talk's 2020 season. Enjoy and be aware that there is literally zero actual information about cameras and lenses in this video. Just goofiness from your hosts David Farkas and Josh Lehrer. You've been warned.

    I don't know what's geekier: The bloopers, Or the fact I remember in 90% of the cases, in what episode was the actual blooper shown.... ;)
    I just don't understand why the delay when starting the show? Don't you see it's running? And when doing a closeup - Why it took a few (tens of ) seconds to move between cameras?

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. The reason for the delay is due to UA-cam's buffering system and the fact that we stream in 4K UHD at a high bitrate. So, the buffering requirement is increased as is the processing time on UA-cam's stream server. The end result is around a 20-30 second delay, sometimes longer.
      As far as the close-up cam, let's cut Jose some slack here. :) The camera is on a remote-controlled motion control system which he moves into position, then manually racks focus using a remote follow-focus motor. It can take a few moments to get it dialed in, and you've probably noticed that we've made this much much faster in later episodes.
      We're working towards making a lot of improvements for 2021. So stay tuned!

    Overall a great channel for in-depth coverage.
    But very very heavily skewed towards $$$ new kit (not surprisingly given they run a Leica shop) and snootily dismissive of creative opportunities with film or more 'vintage' equipment (cf. "buy a new thambar, it's great for that vintage look" (the guy on the left), which ≠ "vintage lenses are terrible" (the guy on the right)). Given Leica's ongoing commitment to film, and film's continued resurgence, this is slightly unfortunate.

      We actually discuss less expensive options and older models quite often. Check out our episodes on Buying and Selling Used Leica Gear, Analog M, our 4-part series on M lenses with full lineage overviews, and all the times we advised people to get lenses that Leica no longer makes - 90 Elmarit, 18 Elmar, 60 Macro R, etc. Or recommending used Q116, used M246 Monochrom or used M6 cameras as viable alternatives. If you'd like us to cover something specific, we always welcome input and suggestions for future episodes.

      @@RedDotForum Thanks for the reply. Was being slightly polemical! Struck in recent videos by slight paradox of dominance of digital discussion and slight feel of negativity towards older options. But I agree that you do frequently say that lenses of character are a big deal and you do try not to talk about 'modern clinical lenses' or recent/current options being the end of the story; it is also of course fair to say that lenses with modern coatings are great to have. I guess that esp on M system the great benefit is not to have to rely on the latest and greatest all the time. Delighted M3/50 DR summicron shooter here - thrilled that gear nearly 70 years old can be this stunningly good!

    • @peterkagan1116

      I respectfully disagree. Not snooty at all, they often discuss and encourage the fun opportunities presented by using old vintage glass on the new sensors. But both guys, left and right, are technicians as well as salesmen, and understand that people investing in this type of gear are doing so often looking for no-excuses optical performance of the highest order, and resolving power that (by Leica's own stated objectives) will be ready for the inevitable advancements in sensors, to 60 90 megapixels and beyond.

      @@peterkagan1116 Fair enough. Guess I'm just seeking a bit more on the artistry of photography. But totally agree that knowing one's gear inside out is essential for that.

      @@davidfearn8635 I've got vintage glass dating back to the 60's and I love the way those lenses look on the new M10 monochrome. I've not felt encourage to sell any of them, instead to understand and celebrate those imperfections, but at the same time, buying some of the new glass too, to maximize resolving power. It's part of that makes the Leica legacy a continuously rewarding journey, ( plus that glass holds it value like crazy)
