  • The Sabine is just one of many of the best kept secrets of beautiful East Texas . The Sabine starts about 200 miles north of here and runs almost another 200 miles south of here . There are several paddle trails maintained by Texas Parks And Wildlife and The Sabine River Authority . You can fish on either side but be sure you have a Texas or Louisiana fishing license . You can read more on paddling on www.southwestpaddlers.com . They cover most of the rivers in the southwest a great site .
OK this is just the first two miles or so of the Sabine below Toledo Bend Lake , and about all you can get to by car for many miles . This was on a Sunday afternoon and there were a few folks cooling off in the river . If you camp , along the Sabine you need to check with the Sabine River Authority to find out if they will be opening the gates while your planning to be on the river , as it can rise very fast . Have a blessed one and hope you enjoy my video .

I hunted the Sabine river bottom woods south of Hwy. 6 in the early 1960s. I watched Toledo Bend dam being constructed & watched the reservoir fill until the project was completed in 1968. The lake displaced some of the most pristine southern timber land & hunting grounds in the south. Progress does indeed drown out some of the rich natural offerings in areas such as the Beulah shoals & the game infested timberlands in exchange for a real estate frenzy & water sports. I was there having the time of my life which is now 30 or so feet under water now.

The dollar almost always wins out when what they consider progress is involved . It's not often when a new project pleases
everyone . And most of the time it's about pleasing the guy with the most money . I love watersports (canoeing kayaking) and very little of the shore is accessible from land . But thats around any river or lake nowadays , and the best spots are taken by private property .
So that makes short afternoon paddle trips out . Now you have to take a 3 or 4 day trip and you could get shot if you get away
from the bank more than a few yards . But that's what they call progress now and the little guy has almost no say in what happens .
you have a blessed day .

Hi this river is only maybe less than 40 miles from where I was born, seeing the Sabine brings a twinge of sadness to me, ohh the memories of Fishing in that river along side my mom, and my brother, and elder sister, who have now passed away They flood My mind and soul I can still hear the laughter and sqeulls as we drug those catfish in! Roll on beautiful Sabine 😂❤❤❤❤

I think most of it is limestone but maybe not all of it . We have had a flood of people moving here from out of state
that seem to think we are not capable of running our state and making our laws to suit our needs . And they tend
to think we're not too friendly . We were doing just fine before they got here and don't need their kind of change .
Like they want to put in a oil field waste dump just down the road from my house and pump toxic waste 400 feet into
the ground , right where we get our drinking water . And burry oil field toxic solid waste , and they don't see the problem with it . They say it will have a plastic liner . That may be ok for a few years , you know like after they have moved on to poison some other place they could care less about just like East Texas . I would like to ask them if they would like to feed the beef that is grown on that land to their kids or eat the vegetables grown on top of that land ten years from now ? As you might guess they don't have a answer . If that's what you might call progress , yep you might not be too welcome here . No they are not welcome here and I for one will make sure they know it .

Thanks I love East Texas . Most of it is undeveloped and the cities are mostly pretty small , guess
that's it's charm . There are too many lakes , rivers and bayous creeks to count . Some places you can
drive for for miles and not see even one other car .

The Sabine is the border between Texas and Louisiana . If you look at a map of Texas you will see two big
lakes all the way to the east one is Sam Rayburn and the other is Toledo Bend lake . The Sabine River runs
from west of Dallas to the Gulf of Mexico . These videos were made just south of Toledo Bend lake .

Starts east of Greenville where a cow peed on a flat rock and some went south. I live in Paris and unfortunately never explored the river. After hurricanes in 2005 I installed FEMA trailers in Port Arthur where Sabine Lake gives way to the Gulf of Mexico . A lot of petroleum and chemical plants load their cargo on tankers floating on the water that made the trip thru East Texas.
Toward the end of the hurricane Rita project I did some recovery work south of Toledo Bend spillway and the beauty of the area made me very homesick and ready to go home.
We won’t live to see all the beauty of Jehovah’s creation on this side. You probably will find beauty no matter where you live if you take your time to be observant. It was an inspiring video!
