Brilliant Video! I had to replace the LCD screen and the attached hinge assembly. This involved stripping down to 3.25 in your video. To assure that I re-assembled correctly I laid a strip of Sellotape out flat, sticky side up, like a fly paper, and stuck each screw onto it in the order that I removed them. That gold piece with 3 holes you wonder about in the video is a bushing that fits at the bottom when you get to the shutter assembly. There's a copper one with 4 holes on the top left next to the shutter as well. The bigger hole goes to the left and the two smaller holes to the right. The flat side faces upward.

Mr. Wong, EXCELLENT VIDEO. You laid out everything precisely in order. I'm thinking of doing the same as you did by getting a A6000 from Ebay too. The one I'm looking at, the camera doesn't power up. What could be the issue?
Thanks for the teardown. "Fixed" my jammed memory card slot. For the info there were at least 2 unscrews and at least 1 ribbon disconnect missing from the video. Also some of the ribbon connectors are with latches, and some are not.

@@juanmanband my symptoms this last case: only the mode dial, the shutter button and the C2 button would respond (I have C2 set up as manual focus assist zoom). All other buttons would freeze, though on occasion for a moment I could make one change before it froze again. I saw speculation dirt or something in the shutter button mechanism tricks the camera into thinking it is half-pressed so all functions are disabled. Just blowing around the shutter button and/or using a blower bulb brought it back to life for a few menu changes before it froze up again. I tried a vacuum cleaner too which helped for a short time as well. After this video showed me how to safely remove the top cover (be careful not to damage the cable to the flash!) I was able to blow/vacuum and apply Deoxit spray. I tried two times...the first attempt worked for several frames but the camera froze up again. My second attempt has got me through nearly 800 frames with no sign of the menu controls going frozen. I had DeoxIT on hand because I use it to clean the controls on old stereo gear--it is specifically designed for electronics. I would not spray anything else on my camera. The mechanical shutter button and the on/off switch comes off attached to the top plate, I sprayed this area as well as the actual switch mounted to the pc board on the main body of the camera. It was scary to open up the camera, but you only need to get a little of the top up to reach this area. Because blow/vacuuming around the shutter button brought my camera back to life for a little bit I was confident the issue was really the shutter button. My a6000 was working perfectly one day, then the next I tried to switch it on - nothing - completely dead. Tried fresh batteries, nothing. When I attach the USB to charge the battery, nothing - the yellow charging light does not turn on. Any ideas what could be wrong? If it is the on-off switch, I might be able to fix it, but if its the main board, I may as well buy a second hand replacement.

Hey Mario! 3 parts needed to be replace due to the water shorting them out. What happened to your camera?
Hmmm... if the shutter is closed it probably means there's sand inside the mechanism. I would first try a can of compressed air to blow out any particles. Try forcing the shutter open and then spraying compress air into it again. After that, you may need to replace the shutter. Here's a link to where you can buy it on eBay ebay.to/2rzVc72

Well so much for simply replacing the battery door. Basically have to remove every single piece in order to spread it apart to take out the bolt. Wow...
+ecf08 No, there are 2 screws on the bottom of the LCD and 2 on the back. A back plate comes off and then you'll see a clip holding the components in place, be careful removing the clip.
I was able to remove the backplate now but it seems the LCD is glued on front panel mount. The flex connectors are also hard to remove since they are connected to a flex type board. This is not easy

hey bruh, i just fried my hot shoe with an old flash, yes i check out on some blogs, and i think i need to replace only the hotshoe, but you know anything about this? and you know if there is another thing besides de connector that may be fried? thanks for the help
sorry but on the sensori there is a glass?
the glas has a special coating or is normal glass?
thanks!
Wait, so there's no mirror in front of sensor? Is there any problem if I accidentally touch it?
Thank you for the video. But when I assembled the camera, I got a broken built-in flash and viewfinder. Do you have any ideas why? I disassembled the camera again and checked all the connectors - all looks good...
Probably broken cables, they are very inticate pieces, or maybe the gold pads got scratched at their end
bro i want to ask u about the viewfinder, how much glass layer in that? is that have cover outdoor glass in it?
Thank you Sir. And I know this is probably difficult but I did not tear down the camera that far who knows what the problem is and may just have to purchase another one to replace it but I loved my a6000 it was a Workhorse
+Gordon Worthington Yeah I love my A6000 too
nice. didn't pull apart the LCD though which is what i was looking for lol
Pulling the LCD through was particularly difficult on camera. I remember it had to go through on an angle and I had to bend the housing a little bit
So I only need to do the first minute and 45 seconds if I'm going to replace the flash assembly?
My a6000s multi interface shoe needs replacement due to a heavy flash that detached part of it. Do you know if fixing it is an option? Is this a part I can buy and fix on my own? I'm debating between sending it to Sony or just buy another cam. Thanks.
+Tim Galletas If those are your options I would just try to fix it
My a6000 was working perfectly one day, then the next I tried to switch it on - nothing - completely dead. Tried fresh batteries, nothing. When I attach the USB to charge the battery, nothing - the yellow charging light does not turn on. Any ideas what could be wrong? If it is the on-off switch, I might be able to fix it, but if its the main board, I may as well buy a second hand replacement.
I have exactly the same problem. Did you manage to fix it?
Now you need to find a way to fit a full frame sensor in that body and we're golden.
Hello from the future and Your wish has been granted!
NanoSonicF I see that, thank you!
I want to replace Flash and at 1:30 it showed that.
Hi, Kevin. Your video helped me a lot reparing shutter on my a6000. I am having trouble inserting LCD cable to the main board. Do I have just to slide it in or the connectors opens? I am affraid that I will damege the connector.
Did you ever figure this out?
Does it have the internal battery ?
Guys at 1:44 please don't copy this method of detaching the connector - use your fingers or a tool to flick it out. Do not pull the whole things like in this video as it pulled the whole connector from the board. I should of known better but yeah don't copy this
Can't find a lens connector replacement anymore...
Any tips?
hola! en caso tal de que mi boton (sony alpha 6000) no funcionara, que sería? funcionan como botones, pero no puedo ajustar el Av, ya que no funciona para rotar
so when you put the lens on it would say lens isn't attached?
so you bought a new lens connecter
how did you get the lcd screen to work again?
+Andrew Sharples No error message when lens was connected, it just wouldn't auto focus. Between the LCD and the motherboard there's a circuit that needs to be replaced, a link to the eBay part is in the description. Let me know if you have any other questions.
well..you skipped over disconnecting quite a few connections. now i havent even gotten to the battery door, almost fully disassembled camera, and i'm stuck with a connection on the circuit board....thanks
Hi Kevin, thank you so much for your video! I was hypnotised watching it! I am amazed you were able to put it all back together though!!!! I was wondering if you could help me with a question. Had an accident with my Sony a6000 and the viewfinder is broken (glass cracked and not working). Amazingly everything else works fine. Do you think this can be replaced? If so, would it be necessary to send it to Sony or is it a kind of job that a camara repair person can do? and finally, any guess about the cost? Thank you so much! Tatiana
I know you can replace the LCD itself but the casing glass is part of the housing. That may need to be replaced also. Check eBay for parts
@@KevinToronto Thanks a lot Kevin!
Well. I Just tried to replace the view finder and was successful by the way. But now I broke the camera because when removing the top cover of the camera it snapped and the connector ripped off the main cable. So
It’s all good except the entire thing is shot now
What type of screw driver are you using
Precision screwdrivers. They're smaller versions of regular screwdrivers
Thanks for the video! Going to try and replace my broken Viewfinder. Do you have a link for replacement?
Thanks for watching Josh. I bought my viewfinder here on eBay bit.ly/2xxBMTH
Question: If I just need to replace the viewfinder do I need to work through all steps in the first 5 minutes of this video or is the viewfinder replaceable with less disassembly? Thanks!
Hey Kevin great video! I had a question. I am unable to insert an SD card into my camera. The SD card has a plastic spoke on one of the connectors that broke. I think it might have bent one of the terminals inside the camera. Is there a way to just open the SD card portion without opening the whole camera so I could unbend whatever is broken in there?
The SD slot is screwed into the battery housing unfortunately. Removing the battery housing was one of the trickier parts of the dissembly
Inspired by your video I was less scared to dig in there and I managed to fix it, thank you!
Bk Engineer hello! I am desperately trying to resolve this exact same issue. If you can help me repair this ASAP I am willing to pay. Just need step by step instruction. THANK YOU
Does anyone know who i can send my broken a600 to for a repair?
I own a Sony a7r VI with a Sony 24-70 gm lens. Why is it that when I use AF-C to shoot. The camera lags a bit when I want to rapid shoot on single shot option?
I tried everything from changing around the settings but it only made a slight difference on the speed performance. I even switched sd cards and nothing. I tested my lens with Sony and it's fine. I have the latest firmware and nothing......
Can anyone help me please
Did you put it back together?
Yes I did... And filmed all the real estate videos that were posted
Я даже не мог представить сколько шлейфов в моей камере и как там все плотно собрано. Я бы наверное не смог обратно собрать
which parts were damaged that you replaced, and the links on ebay, thanks
Hey Mario! 3 parts needed to be replace due to the water shorting them out. I've updated the video description with the parts and links.
1) Lens connector - Camera wouldn't focus
2) Circuit board between the LCD and the motherboard - Bought a new LCD but it was this board that was fried
3) Battery connector - Battery still powered the camera but would slowly drain even when not turned on
I hope this helps! What happened to your camera?
Thanks
The image sensor was not fully taken apart...
wow. i'm a6000 have water damage to0, but the curtain shutter already close down. what your advise?
Hmmm... if the shutter is closed it probably means there's sand inside the mechanism. I would first try a can of compressed air to blow out any particles. Try forcing the shutter open and then spraying compress air into it again. After that, you may need to replace the shutter. Here's a link to where you can buy it on eBay ebay.to/2rzVc72
exactly what im looking for. my a6000 was bathed in tea, well the tea bottle wasnt properly shut when I put it into my bag and you know what happened next.
others are still working well, the only problem is the dial pad, center and display buttons lead me to gallery instead of doing what they are supposed to. the dial is too sticky to turn too. I'll try dissembling it using your video as guide. million thanks!
+Erick Sanjaya mmmm tea. I love tea but not when it's all over my camera. Sorry to hear that. You can try using some rubbing alcohol to clean the dial once you've opened it. Good luck Erick!
Became disconnected from having a trigger on it got the whole thing apart tested it it was working now I get no power is there some kind of fuse that may have been blown I'm going to have to hate that I have to buy a new camera I love this a6000
+G.MICHAEL ELNEGRO Flys Hi Michael! Thanks for watching, I don't think there is a fuse. Just make sure the ribbon connected to the battery is push all the way into the motherboard. Also, make sure the battery is charged. Test the battery by going to bestbuy and inserting battery into one of their display units. Hope that helps
Kevin Wong hey thanks for responding so quick and of course I don't know where that ribbon is all I needed to do was reconnect my hot shoe I finally got that connected and I did test it in a powered on but now it will not power on is there anyway you could send me any kind of pictures of what particular ribbon you're talking about and I appreciate you responding so quick
+G.MICHAEL ELNEGRO Flys I'll try to remember when I get home, hang in there Michael!
Not the best photo but I circled in red what I think needs to be connect snug.

My microphone makes beeping noises when filming, want to relocate the microphone, but ... thanks for this video
Can I avoid taking the whole camera apart to replace my hotshoe?
The hotshoe is embedded in there good, so you'll have to do like 70% of the disassembly. Sorry to say
When I see these teardowns, I wonder why cameras are so expensive
Sony a6000 Ikea mode.
Well so much for simply replacing the battery door. Basically have to remove every single piece in order to spread it apart to take out the bolt. Wow...
were you able to replace the battery door? how far into the tear down did you have to go?
No wonder it overheats so much. They just use thick film to dissipate it
Big thanks
My LCD screen is cracked now. Do I need to dis-assemble almost the whole thing to replace the LCD?
+ecf08 No, there are 2 screws on the bottom of the LCD and 2 on the back. A back plate comes off and then you'll see a clip holding the components in place, be careful removing the clip.
thanks
I was able to remove the backplate now but it seems the LCD is glued on front panel mount. The flex connectors are also hard to remove since they are connected to a flex type board. This is not easy
Did you finally can replace it? Is it difficult? This afternoon I will try to replace mine.
David Salas Espasa i was able to. but when i tried, it did not work. either the part i bought is defective or i ruined some flex boards. but it does not seem so. let me know if it works for you.
Do not work illumination of the auto focus, after I take off upper cover with dials (right one has some problem)
Who knows what is the problem with auto focus illumination
Anyone knows a fix?
may be some ribbon cable connector
P.S.: illumination of the auto focus settings in auto
I got a "for parts off ebay" and it seems to need a battery contacts replaced.
this setup would go almost for canon as well right ?
can i swap sony a6000 with 6300 mother board( MCU)?
+Nedbass Ableton Goodies That would be cool to have an a6300 inside a a6000! But I'm not sure if it's compatible
Wouah! thank you for all this info!
thanks
