6:54-8:32 I bought a DVD copy of DreamWorks' "The Prince of Egypt" at a Best Buy that had that same stupid design choice! Just a plain red background with a closeup of Moses on the left and his wife a little far back to the right. For such a wonderful epic motion picture, how could they be so LAZY!? That's like making a Blu-ray cover for "The Lion King" and just putting Simba's face on an orange background!
Believe it or not, there is a DVD cover of The Lion King as part of the Signature Collection and it’s just as lazy with just photoshopped pictures of Simba and Scar at the top, along with photoshopped pictures of Rafiki, Timon and Pumbaa at the bottom and the title in the center and a still image of Rafiki lifting Simba in the background. Look it up and marvel at the badness of the cover.
The Last Action Hero cover is just what they use to release cheap versions. They have one with the original poster art. The VHS was simple though, but I love it.

You know, he should have added The Banana Splits Movie dvd and blu ray cover. Reasons: A. I actually did guess the Last Action Hero cover correctly, mostly because that's the only movie I can think of where Arnold wears a red shirt under a jacket prominently throughout the film.
6:09 I once bought a bootleg dvd and the cover looks better than that, it looks like what I would do if I sold low quality bootleg copies of the bootleg.

First thing, that Groundhog Day Bill Murray looks more like John Belushi Second, I can kinda understand the Last Action Hero cover being generic like that; LAH made meta humor and commentary on movie tropes, especially action movie tropes, and how that contrasts with the edge of the real world, and so I get wanting to make the cover look like a generic action movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger in it. That said, considering it's not a popular Arnold movie (people are only now giving it some praise when it was so critically panned) I don't know if the people making the cover art cared enough to consider what I just said. It could've been laziness like you said.
This is SUCH a pet peeve of mine! I wish films would just use the theatrical posters as the covers for their DVDs. The poster design for How To Train Your Dragon is beautiful (the one with Hiccup reaching out his hand to touch Toothless), so why not use that instead? I remember seeing a Tumblr post about this, and people were saying that the DVD cover re-designs were probably used to try and make the films look more "appealing" even though it seems to just annoy people. -_-
I think I should share this, but I happen to own a blu-ray of Garfield: The Movie with the close up cover. What’s special about this is that instead of a plain generic color for a background, the cover instead has a picture of the cul-de-sac. I thought I’d share this since it’s kinda a rare occurrence.
I guessed LAST ACTION HERO because A. ARNOLD Schwarzenegger B. he isn't a robot on the poster. C. one of this is one of many films where he uses a gun and this movie I know because of THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC.
Man, looking at your version of the Roger Rabbit cover... If I didn't know any better I would have assumed Roger was that bunny in the center. Like, imagine if you didn't know about Bugs Bunny. Roger Rabbit would be a nice intro to animation if you weren't familiar with cartoons, but you wouldn't be able to tell from that cover.

To be fair for Groundhog Day and Foodfight, neither of their posters were that better. I mean, Foodfight is just has one of those "copy the film poster" style instead of making its own design, even if it has the same problems Matt addressed. As for Groundhog Day's original poster, Bill doesn't fair out like his DVD. His hands pressed against the clock don't look right (like they're oversized) and his face looks a touch too cheery for someone stuck in a time loop (at least DVD cover Bill looks properly baffled). As a side note, my family's the kind who, when we get DVDs/Blu-Rays, we quickly put them in binders. We don't really have a designated area (like a separate bookshelf or rack) for they also take up a bit of space.
You know what's worse than the DVD covers with the faces on them? Now this is a recent problem I have with Netflix. For no explicable reason, some covers (cover banners?) for some movies merely use a screenshots for scenes from the movies. Examples: Lilo and Stitch - Stitch building himself a sand Castle Emperor's New Groove - a snapshot of Yzma making that forced smile Hotel Transylvania 2 - Mavis and Jonathan in the mini mart Though it seems to only apply when for the mobile apps and the PC app.
0:27 Ok, the cover for the 3-in-1 Pokémon Movie dvd isn’t that bad looking given that it at least shows you which legendary Pokémon appear in which movie as a sneak peek of what’s to come.
Here’s a possible honorable mention: Winx Club the Complete 6th Season DVD(from Australia). It has 2D concept art of the main characters in their Mythix transformations. When you have seen the show, the transformation only appears in 3D(unless you count the brief 2D still of Bloom on one of the Legendarium pages).
I agree with you with the food fight one because whenever I first watched it for the first time and I never know what it was about the pickle bird, Charlie, and the Twinkie mascot but you know and now I agree with all critics that's a food fight is the worst.
As for #4, 3 words: Simpsons did it! I'd say it started in Season 6, but much like the DVD menus, it wan't finalized until Season 11. The camera muggers per season are: Season 11: Krusty The Clown (2008) Season 12: Comic Book Guy (2009) Season 13: Ralph Wiggums (2010, first season chronologically on Blu-ray) Season 14: Kang (2011) Season 15: Otto (2012) Season 16: Professor Fink (2013) Season 17: Sideshow Bob (2014) The end of Simpsons DVDs. Bam! They're back! Season 18: Fat Tony (2017) Season 19 will probably be Milhouse Van Houten.
10. Groundhog Day 9. And Justice for all 8. Foodfight! 7. Near Dark 6. Real Genius 5. Apollo 13 4. The Stupid DVD cover trend 3. Last Action Hero 2. The Sam Rami Spiderman trilogy Blu Ray collection 1. Space Jam: The 20th anniversary Blu Ray Stealbook

This is why I make custom covers for all my movies using the original poster artwork.
I feel like we’ve given the original Planet Of The Apes DVD cover a pass, considering that it spoils the twist ending on the cover.
Soon😈
Bill Murray on the groundhog day looks like Dan Aykroyd.
The #4 Covers would be perfect for the DVD/Blu Ray Releases of the Boss Baby, The Emoji Movie and SAO Ordinal Scale :)
Ordinal Scale has a good cover
I think I should share this, but I happen to own a blu-ray of Garfield: The Movie with the close up cover. What’s special about this is that instead of a plain generic color for a background, the cover instead has a picture of the cul-de-sac. I thought I’d share this since it’s kinda a rare occurrence.
I guessed LAST ACTION HERO because
A. ARNOLD Schwarzenegger
B. he isn't a robot on the poster.
C. one of this is one of many films where he uses a gun and this movie I know because of THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC.
The foodfight cover reminds me of the DVD cover for Over the Hedge and I like that movie before than Foodfight. ❤
#4. The perfect example of lazy DVD cover's
Why are people so lazy, be creative with your cover's
#10. They made Bill Murray look like he's in his 20's or 30's
Look At My Comment Which Is How You Make A Close Up Poster ( Dreamworks And Blue Sky Style)
But Yeah While Those Are Great The Others (Except Maybe Cars) Suck
In Europe, they release the Disney Classics in the color background closeup character trend.
10:10 Why do you have to repeat the numbers
I still come back to this to look for inspiration when doing art.
Some of the worst DVD covers have to be almost every WWE PPV cover simply because they spoil what happens in the show.
I always look at DVD collections in videos to see if people have some that I have that I love. You have some that I have.
I agree with 4 and that's why I want to Double-Dip.
Man, I wish this was made this year. That way, he could see the Jurassic Park Trilogy 25th Anniversary covers! Those definetly deserve to be on this list.
Whenever it transitions to the next number and he’s throwing DVD covers.....DID I JUST SEE “WHERE THE DEAD GO TO DIE” DVD?!?!?!

The Emoji Movie got 3% of Rotten Tomatoes btw did u see the trailer for The Star
I thought it was 0%
Sam Feldstein It used to be. 1 review that gave a 3/5 raised it by 3%.
JacksonStormFAN Team IGNTR 2.0
Going to a website... "Okay, Sony you have one last chance, you have screwed up with emoji movie. I am religious person but I wanted to see a good movie coming out. Now let's see what you brought up with The Star."
One Trailer Later...
... "You are toast, Sony."
Now it's 6%
Aw woof
Examples: Lilo and Stitch - Stitch building himself a sand Castle
Emperor's New Groove - a snapshot of Yzma making that forced smile
Hotel Transylvania 2 - Mavis and Jonathan in the mini mart
Though it seems to only apply when for the mobile apps and the PC app.
0:27 Ok, the cover for the 3-in-1 Pokémon Movie dvd isn’t that bad looking given that it at least shows you which legendary Pokémon appear in which movie as a sneak peek of what’s to come.
im glad im not the only one who doesn't like the close up covers either
Holy shit, that's a lotta DVD's! (Especially in the beginning of the video where you show your DVD collection) I'm jealous now! XD
lol, that countdown music makes me laugh. "Durr durr duh! Duh duh duh!!"
Juan Strong that's Arin Hanson
dolan pls
Dean Aviram ..... Well I hate to say this but I'm autistic and I found this song to be funny as shit! XD
@@deanaviram5009 how the hell is that offensive?
I don’t like it...
6:53 Well... I got used to it.
My country should be ashamed of those awful Spider-Man front covers.
7:15 That was used on the IMDB page of your series
#4 is especially irksome considering they had perfectly good and beautiful covers to begin with.
As for #4, 3 words: Simpsons did it! I'd say it started in Season 6, but much like the DVD menus, it wan't finalized until Season 11. The camera muggers per season are:
Season 11: Krusty The Clown (2008)
Season 12: Comic Book Guy (2009)
Season 13: Ralph Wiggums (2010, first season chronologically on Blu-ray)
Season 14: Kang (2011)
Season 15: Otto (2012)
Season 16: Professor Fink (2013)
Season 17: Sideshow Bob (2014)
The end of Simpsons DVDs. Bam! They're back!
Season 18: Fat Tony (2017)
Season 19 will probably be Milhouse Van Houten.
Season 19 is out now! It’s Homer (driving)!
This was a really fun review
By the way I can't wait for the Emoji Movie review
