The subtle breathing animation on Fox right at the end as he's so _done_ with Falco's shit is wonderful.
Great catch! I especially love how his breathing gets slightly faster in the second breath, getting more worked up instead of relaxed. I think Falco's on track to getting the "stuttering parrot" treatment 🤣

I love how Fox's characterization has been leaning a bit more into a guy with a short temper who tries really hard to keep it under control.
Ooh I think it goes one level deeper because you're not wrong. When dealing with Wolfgang in episode 1, he was patient and formal since he knew he had no leverage. It seems to be the small stuff that makes him lose his cool!
-Learning what happened to his clothes got on his nerves
-Being called "Starfox" set him off
-Even if it was a joke video, Wolfgang getting on his hide about Halloween REALLY set him off
-Falco mocking them over a game got under his skin
And that's just basic stuff! We haven't even seen Wolfgang make a pass at his dad yet! (it was teased in a large update stream a year or so ago)
Fox has pet peeves and I love it ❤
He can't stand it when he isn't taken seriously. Maybe it's some inferiority of being the son of a (presumed) dead hero pilot. Wolf especially knows how to press his buttons too, having known him as a kid.

My last duty station was at Hurlburt, where they are based out of, and thus I volunteered to play 'casualty' for their exercises on a few occasions. Which meant I got to visit their shop on a few occasions. The interior is nearly literally wallpapered in videogame, anime, and wrestling posters!

I’m not meaning to be rude here, but generalizing a group of people as “adorable” because of a disability can come off as pretty infantilizing and demeaning. We’re just normal people.
the little subtle movements in the animation are INCREDIBLE and give it so much life, from the little facial movements as they breathe to the little movements of their eyes as they watch the screen. your Fox has so much "younger sibling that has HAD ENOUGH" energy and I love it. really feeling the douchey older brother vibes from Falco here, LOL, this is almost word for word an interaction I would have had with my brother as a teen.
Short hopping can be a bit difficult, especially as Fox. Just wait until he learns about wavedashing...

My favorite early player pitfall is that people will learn that short-hopping exists, struggle with doing it consistently, finally get the timing down, and then scream when they realize the actual hard part about short hopping is doing it *all the time.*
“Hitting it too early” doesn’t make sense in the context of what he’s trying to do. It’s almost like AI created dialog for smash bros. 😂
Falco's voice sounds like how I'd expect SNES Star Fox to sound. Also, good use of a classic Slippy line at the end there.

fox is the fastest small jumper in melee if i remember right so it only makes sense if fox is playing as melee fox he'd struggle because he's among the hardest to small jump as in melee

the window to short hop with fox is only 2 frames, even with 100s of hours of practice i still fuck it up all the time
I asked on GameFAQs many many years ago "how i shorthop??? i cant do it :(" and got a response "just keep practicing" and didn't realize much much later I should have specified I was trying to do so with Fox.
Deep down, Falco actually wants to play with them. He just can't bring himself to admit it though, so he instead opts to insult his friends.
I think he comes around a bit later on as he can be seen on the couch between Fox and Slippy in Episode 1 while they're playing

Wolf is one of those faux-friendly jackasses, who puts on a "good cop" persona to hide his contempt JUST enough to give him plausible deniability. Falco is more of your classic jackass, who directly mocks others for his own amusement, and if pressed would use the "I'm just joking around" excuse.
One is directly manipulative and intentionally harmful, the other just doesn't realize the harm they're causing.

I love the immediate reactions the moment Falco opens his beak, with Fox narrowing his eyebrows and Slippy glancing nervously. It really sells the idea that they've dealt with this before and are sick of his shit. Amazing work as always!

For short hopping, if you’re using a normal controller press X and Y or lightly flick your controller stick.
Wave dashing is its own set of rules, practice that later.
