This was many years ago and has recovered since and is back on tour.
ABSOLUTELY LOVELY MAN. met and played a few times and always a pleasure.
I remember he lost a final once and in the interview after he said "I felt I played the better darts you know".
He is a good bloke he needed help at the time not punishment and have his name dragged through the mud, I've known Richie since 1994, and he will do anything for anyone, he as helped me raise loads of money for different children's charities and he is a good friend to have around, just a top bloke to be fair, hopefully he will get his form back and get back to his best again .
Burnet did look like he was on something..I thought it was alcohol related
I say he's the first superstar the BDO made after the split.
After he won the world championship in 1995 he toured the country. He came up to the Shetland Islands where I got to play him when I was a young boy only 8 years old. I still have his signed score sheet from one of his games. A lasting and happy memory for me.
Really enjoyed his performances recently in the Modus Super Series, unlucky to lose in the final as he dominated the week

The lad made a mistake and paid a hefty price. I could think of a fair few of todays players that warrant testing but they sell tickets so probably don’t test their cash cows. I always found Richie a likeable character and honest about his mistakes so why is this all dragged up in 24. Let the lad enjoy his darts he served his ban. Does anyone know what is the regularity of testing in the worlds top players nowadays. Should these not be published whether negative or positive and show openness and transparency in how darts are regulating the use of drugs in the game. Showing negative tests will have a positive impact on the public thinking who is at it and who isn’t. I think if testing was published there would be a few surprise results and a few not surprising. But I can’t see that happening cause it seems bums on seats come first before transparency. Just my thoughts pretty sure others think likewise. Best of luck in your career Richie I always enjoyed watching you.

Drugs like cocaine are regarded as performance enhancing substances… whether they can actually improve the throw is debatable… but there’s no argument when it comes to the positive effect it has on a person’s psyche and level of self belief and confidence…
Having done a Richie Burnett myself I can say it works both ways depending on mood, I’d either be on fire treble every visit (I’m no pro) or I couldn’t be arsed at all was a chore and hated every throw.
I've always played better after a blast, I don't think about my throw too much, and the dart comes out a lot more smoothly. I felt more focused at the oche. I'm not saying I do it every time I play because I dont, but on the occasions I have, I have definitely played better.
I am not promoting the use of class drugs either. In fact, stay away. I'm just giving my personal opinion on how I've played with or without.
