  • For minivan lovers and shoppers it may seem like bad news that the segment is shrinking but there’s a silver lining to that grey cloud. The cream, as they say, has risen to the top and the models left are better than ever.

    You should do a 2015 minivan shotout (Honda Oddessy v Toyota Sienna v Dodge Grand Caravan v Kia Sedona)

    The interior actually looks far more luxurious the ever before. The dash looks a lot like the current Avalon's.

    Its 2020 and the honda odyssey still uses a timing belt.. One of the main reason we went with toyota...

    Sienna has had Radar based Cruise control since 2011 but at $1900 its very difficult to find.

    I've watched another video of the 2015 Sienna by AutoBytel who had a Toyota representative talk about the car with greater detail. He reminded me of the antenna mast that we had on our $33,000 2011 Sienna XLE which after driving on the highway was wobbling back and forth like one of those air puppets you see on top of buildings. I ended up replacing it with 10-inch version that looked aesthetically battery and didn't move while driving into the wind. But it took Toyota 4-years later to remove it and place in the glass like all modern 2000-era cars.
    Unlike Chrysler, who usually de-contents their vehicles after they are launched, it would appear that Toyota does the opposite to keep up with the competition. Perhaps buying the 1st MY of the 3rd generation wasn't the best idea, and we should have bought the 3rd generation Honda Odyssey just before the 4th generation came out.
    Don't get me wrong, I really like the updated interior of the Sienna. Never liked it in the first place, compared to the 4th gen Odyssey. But I much preferred the exterior styling of the Sienna compared to the Odyssey mish-mash of shapes. And no Honda dealer would even talk to you lowering the MSRP on a 1-month old car compared to the 6-month old Sienna.

    I was surprised when it was said in the video that Toyota is just now offering Dynamic Cruise Control (or Adaptive Cruise Control). I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna Limited AWD, and it has it, as well as navigation and a back up camera.
    I can't even get the 2015 Sienna AWD with Dynamic Cruise Control.
    You can only get it with the FWD models, which is highly disappointing. That is why I may just stick with my wonderful 2004 model until they put the two together again.
    I WANT AWD, AND Dynamic Cruise Control all in my one vehicle! I also like the top of the line model, which I think is now a Limited Premium.

    I think it's lame that Toyota offers heated steering wheels in the Highlander/Sienna but not in the 4Runner or Tacoma. People actually use the 4runner and Tacoma doing outdoor activities in the cold so Toyota needs to get their act together.

    • @toulee8051
      @toulee8051 3 роки тому

      Heated steering wheels are a LUXURY ACCESSORY in luxury vehicles only. People who drive 4Runners and Tacoma's don't need such pretentious luxuries...

    Eh, it's better, but the Honda Odyssey is sill the king of vans. In general, everything is just better on the Odyssey than the Sienna. These include quality, fit and finish, usability, safety, design, reliability, mpg, and etc. Throughout the years, out of all the vans, the Odyssey is always the one being awarded, praised and recommended by many reviewers. The only other minivan that has a chance of matching the Odyssey is the new Kia Sedona. I'd rather have a vacuum, cool box, or a lane watch camera than a thing to make me louder in the back.

    I feel like the new Kia Sedona would be a better looking minivan to drive, plus it looks gorgeous on the interior in SX trim. Comparison time! :D

      I somehow doubt it. Hyundai/Kia have made a big hooplah the past few years for interesting designs and "luxury" options probably nobody uses (rear-heated seats?), but the core driving dynamics have not moved to class leader status. The drivetrain (3.3L V6) on the Sedona is gruff, and too small for that new vehicle (I drove it at the press launch).

    • @AdrianC12345
      @AdrianC12345 10 років тому

      I know that rear heated seats in my car would be appreciated greatly during winter months, though, only the front two are heated in my Volvo S40. Even then, I'm surprised you're calling the 3.3 engine too small... Power isn't determined by engine size, you know...

    • @kc5077
      @kc5077 10 років тому +2

      I agree the new Sedona looks great, but the 3rd row looks a lot smaller and dark. I'm really looking forward the the new Town and Country and the Grand Caravan crossover.

    • @columwood2946
      @columwood2946 10 років тому

      I'm eager to drive the Sedona. I've heard reasonably good reviews, but mostly that it sacrifices some functionality and tries to make up for it with some extra features. I'm not convinced it's a contender at the top, but I'm not ready to write it off yet.

    • @ingram1225
      @ingram1225 9 років тому

      AdrianC12345 I compared the two, I can't get over the snout on the Sedona and the price point is the same as a toyota which has better reliability (sans nice looking designs i suppose). Now, if the Sedona was around a top of the line Dodge T&C I would probably buy one over a Sienna.

    Finally, Toyota woke up and brush up the interior a little bit with soft touch dash... those hard and cheapo plastic dash got to go! I still have my 2007 Sienna and purring along fine with same engine they are still using in 2015. I wish Toyota updated the engine to DGI and add a couple more gears to the transmission but probably live by this philosophy "If it ain't break don't fix it" ~ the V6 they use for all their cars is very reliable so far.

      Why would Toyota want to give up on a good motor with good gas mileage? The other competitors have the same motor except the grand caravans and sedona. Nissan and honda also have the 3.5. And some reason honda oddessey has the less horsepower 248 horsepower.

    Why doesn't a company make a true sporty aggressive van so ppl wouldn't be ashamed to drive them?

    • @columwood2946
      @columwood2946 10 років тому +1

      If it's too sporty then it might not be very comfortable. And frankly, these vans cost so much already. A sporty version might just push the needle too far.

      I can certainly try. I did write a review of the 2014 model but we didn't shoot video of it. If you google "A celebration of parenthood, a celebration of life" you'll see it. I'm a big fan of the Odyssey and even considering buying one.

    the god damn odyssey comes with a shop vac and a cooler.... and VTEC... I mean... thats just genius. granted i hope i never have enough kids to have to ditch my 1992 celica GT 5 speed. BUT if i had to buy my wife a minivan it would be a black odyssey touring.

  • @jowowetan
    @jowowetan 10 років тому +1

    it's funny people think Odyssey is better, google honda vcm issue, or honda transmission problem - honda odyssey is the least reliable honda. there's lawsuit settlement for the vcm but there's no fix for the excessive oil consumption for this engine. www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/honda_odyssey.html

      I love the new CR-V it is I think the best sub for the segment just a few changes to the engine like a v-6 or inline 6 engine with more power

    • @johnsonl3656
      @johnsonl3656 10 років тому

      Rashad Muhammad Honda had made a huge improvement on the 2015 CR-V, and I love it. It'll be interesting if it has a V6 option, but Honda will probably price it above $30k, which is closed to the Pilot's starting price. Then not so many people will consider buying it over the Pilot. The v4 has adequate power for the CR-V. I just watched a video about 2014 2015 CR-V comparison and test drive from Edward Tomilloso. You can go to his channel and check it out!
