20 or so years ago I could buy tj frames from Quadratech probably no longer. available .good to see you have found a way to help jeepers out,back in the 70s did some welding on trailrides with 12 volt batteries.MJBJ

Hi, great video btw. What would you do if you were going to be welding a safety cap in and after having cut around the brakets for the upper and lower control arms, you saw that the steel was corroded almost all the way to the top of the frame? There is very little to weld into for that 6-8 " area between the front and rear welding points that connect the control arm brakets to the frame. Thank for any help you can offer.
I wish I was in Connecticut, my old ‘04 is completely rotted, frame cracked off at the lower control arm and can not be driven. I wonder if you’d even take mine on it’s so bad

When I looked at TJ's every add said new frame I went to see them and all they did was rocker guard frame so it looks nice but with the holes still there 🤣 I looked at 3 of them all same issue.

Is Waxoil not available in America ? All the boxes and tubes on my cars have so much Waxoil in them , in hot weather it looks like my car has an oil leak.
Question, do the brackets on the safety caps for upper control arms flush with the frame or are they slightly higher? I’ve measured the center of the lower control arm to body mount bracket and a few places to make sure everything is aligned as per old frame but seems everyone states the upper control arm bracket on the frame should be flushed with the frame. Help?

@@cbmadcow - Same boat as you, brother. I got an '01 that had numerous issues that I paid $5000 for. I rebuilt the Dana 44 rear with a new DuraGrip carrier, replaced a u joint up front, fixed the AC, repaired an evap leak. It needs rear driver's side frame repair/lower control arm bracket. I bought the repair sections for both sides and a Hobart welder. I've been practicing with it, getting a little better every time I use it. I'm a little intimidated but eff it - I'll fix this thing. It has a newer 4.0 crate engine in it, which was a major selling point. Good luck with yours!
You're correct. What I do is measure from the front lower control arm bolt center to the rear lower control arm bolt center before I cut the frame apart. Then I set the saftcap to the same measurements.
This is literally peak 'what society needs'. You just took that Jeep and made sure it's on the road for another decade, if not more. I can't seem to figure out where you're located but if you take clients I'd love to bring you a project. Great shooting angles btw. I'm surprised the body mounts were okay to use.
Its not just jeeps that have the frame rot issue . Toyota, Ford ,GM, ram all have rot issues. And from a guy who has plowed commercials for the last 30 years. Even with the rust coating stuff / oils its still a major issue due to the amount and type of ice Melts used today it eats everything. So imagine having to buy a new 60,000 to 90,000 dollar vehicle every 10 years due to various reasons all caused by rust/ corrosion it sucks 😕. People outside the rust belt can't fathom the complexities.
How do people do this in their garage without lift? 4 off-road jacks and three buddy's? Maybe I can weld on the floor. I just want to be safe.....and not pay a shop

I looked over ebay and im seeing frame kits for everything but the jeep liberty. any way you could point me to the right direction in finding the kits for my jeep liberty . my drivers side frame is in need of repair`s , i had planned replacing the rear control arms, but with iout having a good frame i cant, not without repairing the frame, first
The liberty has a unibody style frame that is not repairable in the traditional way. Unfortunately when they start to rot, there isn't much you can do about it.

Once you’re done consider spraying Fluid Film inside the frame to stop and prevent future rust.

Hi.. how you know what position patches should be welded? What about if something moved 1/4 - 1/2 inch and axles will not be aligned

What welder are you using, all I have is a harborfreight titanium flux 125 you think I can tackle this job with that welder?
What size wire are you using as well as are you using flux core or gas

What are those golden bolts/nut/washers underneath the SafeTCap? Is it for additional (besides welding) fixing the safeTCap to the frame?

Kinda surprised the tank was left in while all that cutting and welding? I thought i had to remove the tank first? Thanks
The safest thing to do is remove the tank and store it outdoors or in a very well ventilated area. 😉

Don't worry about the uppers. Just make sure the lowers are in the right spot front to back.

I used the TMR crossmember kit to have that support the transmission / tcase.
So in general, what's a ball park figure that a job like this cost since this kind of work is WAY above my pay grade.... lol ...

Haven't got better. Just picked up a 98 TJ 4 cyl for $5500. And I need to have both center sections of the frame fixed because of the rust.

I suggest my customers fluid film the entire underbody. I don't do them at the time because the paint needs time to cure properly.

The liberty has a unibody style frame that is not repairable in the traditional way. Unfortunately when they start to rot, there isn't much you can do about it.
My neighbor had the same rust on there jeep, the flipped the frame for $5600.00 ! That safety cap must be alot less.
