Digital minimalist Cal Newport used Thoreau's idea of "New Economics" to justify his aforementioned philosophy. Just as Thoreau found that we generally provide our rigorous labor at the expense of our precious time, just to engage in needless consumurism when we can actually work less hours while still having the bare essentials, so to did Newport find that the extensive usage and consumption of digital technologies eat away at our time and in many ways were not necessarily essentials to surviving. Newport isn't anti-technology, believing you can optimize such your benefit, but you get the idea
