    I haven't seen my 41 year old man smile and paying attention like this... ever. I walked in and just saw a big old boy, mouth open, wide eyed, totally enchanted. LOL

      We're all 12 year old inside! 😂 🤣 Just imagine if you hadn't seen him watching this and you asked him later: "What cha thinking bout" and he answered: "Im wondering if we have all the stuff here to make me some bagpipes!" We're not crazy, we're eccentric 12 year olds who like "cool stuff" 😂 🤣 😎

    I once made one almost exactly like this all the way back in jr. high. However, the main chanter was a recorder, and the drone pipes were bamboo segments fitted with trimmed saxophone reeds. Not only did it work, but it also got me an A in science class. The drones are what make it more difficult. The trick going forward would be to use a Persian or Italian design where the chanter doubles as the drone due to the reed type used.

    I'm a Scottish smallpipes, and practice chanter (among many other kinds of pipe chanter, and drone) reedmaker. Jay, at Boyd Reeds. I am about to begin making some reeds again. I'm glad you made this, and reminded me how much I love playing, and reedmaking.

    The nine notes of the chanter scale are "low G, low A, B, C (sounds as a C♯), D, E, F (sounds as a F♯), high G, and high A". However, the A pitch of most pipers and pipe bands currently is somewhere around 470-480 Hz,[9] which is actually sharper than standard pitch B♭4 at 466.16 Hz. So the scale actually sounds closest to A♭, B♭, C, D, E♭, F, G, A♭, B♭, and can be considered a transposing instrument in E-flat major. Historically it was indeed flatter, as evidenced by recordings, and extant instruments.

      in short, using the old systems of scales when we know that base notes in the notation aren't necessarily equal pitch to each other, why fucking bother? Just standardise this rediculous system already there's no value in talking about "baroque" tuning or any of the other shite. Just call it by the Hz. Living in victorian ages with this stuff.

    we came across this and really want to make it. Please detail the way the the half inch pipe with tape fits into the .75 inch T .
    is the tape only wrapped around the outside circumference of the Half inch pipe, leaving the end open ? then slipped into the T ? or is the rubber tape blocking the end also ? then the opposite arm of the T has a piece of plastic bag over the end and perhaps you are using a coupling to secure and seal ?
    Thanks !

    Gives u a good point of view of how the Scottish made the instrument in the beginning other then the materials but still the same concept

    • @justinnaramor6050
      @justinnaramor6050 2 роки тому

      Well it's worth mentioning that bagpipes were not 'invented' in Scottland. Why so many people think bagpipes are inherently Scottish is something I don't understand really. Rather, I say this gives a good point of view of how bagpipes were even thought of in the first place, and how they might've been constructed, regardless of who did it first (the only real difference being that early bagpipes used animal skins because duct tape didn't really exist back then, or at least not like how we know it today :)). Still though, Scottland were not the first and only people to make bagpipes originally. They were around long before Scottland adopted them. Adding to that, there are many forms of bagpipe in the world... the word "bagpipes" should not be used to only refer to one specific instrument. Rather think of bagpipes as a whole class or family of instruments (like how "stringed instruments" are a whole class of instruments). Perhaps you've heard of the Uilleann Pipes, for example? Well the Uilleann pipes are also bagpipes. They are the bagpipes of Ireland. And Bulgaria has their bagpipes, Sweden has their bagpipes, Poland has their bagpipes, France has their bagpipes, Spane has their bagpipes, and so on... and they all have different names which I don't remember :(. The real issue is that when you say the word "bagpipes", many people automatically think of one version, which is always the Great Highland Bagpipes from Scottland. They are by far the best-known version of the bagpipes in the world, but other bagpipes in the world should get some respect as well... because bagpipes are not exclusive to Scottland. But regardless of where these different bagpipes come from, they all work on the same principle, and that principle is obviously clearly demonstrated in this video. Yes, I know this was a long comment, but all this stuff should be pointed out.

      Bagpipes don't rely on just blowing through to make sound, blowing air into the instrument fills up the bag, which you then squeeze to produce a sound.

    • @justinnaramor6050
      @justinnaramor6050 2 роки тому

      @@r.m.solympic6857 That's exactly how I would've responded. I think a lot of people somehow misunderstand how bagpipes actually work. They're not like a saxophone or flute or whatever, where blowing into the instrument with air from the mouth directly produces the sound.

      You got that right! Funny thing about that, just a couple hours ago (or maybe an hour ago) I listened to a video from "Matt Willis Bagpiper" where he showcased a $130 set of bagpipes from Pakistan. The drone pipe literally sounded pretty much exactly like a Wookie from Star Wars! It was really, really, really funny... never heard that before out of any bagpipe. At the same time though, the "instrument" was very much unplayable. If anything, it's only good for a comedy show :))))))))))))))))))))))))
