The GDT is a great trail - rugged for sure, but out-of-this-world views. I would highly recommend it, and we yo-yo hiked it, so that means something!! Haha
Sorry for the late reply. I believe I found one tick on me, and Dan didn't have any...? It was imbedded in my skin, but hadn't "gorged" yet, so I got him out quick! Yuck!

Terrain seems mostly Barron is that do to altitude or temperature?
