Oh snap! I've always watched your Tekken content but it never really occurred to me that you made Dota 2 content as well. Not new to Moba's, myself, but it is nice seeing you cover this game. I really love how Valve managed to make the 3rd person shooting mechanics and the Moba mechanics actually communicate with one another (i.e. how the reload system isn't just there because "it's expected in a shooter game", and it actually ties in very well with the spirit orb mechanic, where you really do have to time your reloads properly or else you risk the enemy denying you of extra souls). Definitely one of my initial concerns about this game upon first seeing the leaks, but glad to see it is more than taken care of, after playing this game for myself. In any case, keep up the great work, man. Definitely love your content :)
Thanks for the guide! Ive found myself really struggling in the early game deapite all the other guides I've seen. I really appreciate how youre able to present a lot of information concisely and in such an easy to understand way. Great work and Im looking forward to the next one!
7:15 from a MOBA players perspective (at least in DOTA) taking an early tower allows you to go freely jungle without having to worry about a gank happening. The creeps themselves give information on anyone being in the lane as is, and if they are they will shove the lane back into you, giving you a good minute to take out the small or medium jungle camps before the troopers get shoved back towards your tower. Just food for thought on why you might want to take the tower early. I personally have been hitting the troopers before focusing the tower, free souls before my lane opponent shows back up
You're on the right track, but lane creeps give 2x the amount of souls that small jungle camps do for a fraction of the kill time. Shoving and farming a camp is good for efficiency if killing the lane waves is no longer safe, but if you can keep the lane creeps in a safe position for longer you can get more farm than going to kill the jungle. This is loosely covered in the follow up video on the midgame. That said, if you're a heavy ganking hero like Lash, then you probably take the tower anyways just to give yourself the time and space to go help elsewhere on the map. Like any MOBA, nothing is black and white.
A lane creep in total gives 100 souls, where a small jungle creep gives only 50. So while a wave of creeps is worth 400 souls, the small camp by each lane is only worth 150. This means it’s only effecient to take the small camp if you only miss 1 lane creep. If it causes you to miss 2 creeps, it was technically less effecient. Put another way, can you kill a lane faster than you take 8 small creeps? Can you kill a lane faster than you kill 4 medium jungle creeps?
@@loops9508 the idea is the safety of it though, and (most) the time your opponent will be focused on shoving their lane back at you (either cause tilt or wanting to farm as fast as they can) so a lot of times it may only be 1-3 creeps missed. just food for thought. Creep/Trooper wave equilibrium hasn't really developed much yet so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Thank you very much. I'm dedicated to Kelvin and sometimes forced to solo lane. I know the builds and stuff - but general laning and behavior during lane phase helps a lot to understand proper laning. Do you think every lane is kind of the same to play or are there details to keep in mind like outer vs. inner lanes? I think this understanding would help a lot in improving and learning.
In terms of laning, I think the dynamics of each lane are pretty similar. The biggest things that change are: are you in a solo or duo lane, and do you have one or two lanes you can go gank and help out.
One thing you never mentioned re:laning is the ziplines and the zip boost. What are your thoughts on those mechanics? I have been using the zip and boost to reheal and get "safe" shops when things are hairy but idk if I am misplaying and should not be backing out of lane, idk
Sometimes you’re pushed out of lane because you’re taking too much damage and don’t have 500 souls to spend on a regen item. In these instances it’s good to use the speed boost to back and return while missing as few cs as possible. In my opinion however, if you have 500 souls to spend on “healing rite”, you’d rather spend the souls and stay than full back.
I prefer to get the outer turrets decently fast, I'm not in a rush, but if I can I will take it down, the skill point is useful and it allows me to shove wave and help other lanes take their turret down.
idk why I keep forgetting my moba knowledge when playing this game even though it would make things so much easier lmao I need to burn down my CS reflect to keep shooting people instantly I see them
Asap, but without stopping. Do buys as fast and as soon as possible, if ur not farming mobs, not killing people, collecting boons, doing objectives ur wasting time. But if you have unspent money, ur also wasting your money as inflation. When you start the game its slower to collect souls, and you have cheaper\fewer items. Later when you have like 12 items, buying a 13th wont make such impact, but especially early on try to buy items asap, also most of the time buying cheaper items first is the way to go bc they give base stats, I think orange 500 soul items give 6% weapon dmg for example, 4x6=24 thats a lot if you compare that and the other bonuses to any 3k orange item. Ofc most heroes has important core items which are important and need to be rushed, but in general, buy cheaps first. Learn the map, and try to keep rotating for shops whilst farming. Also one important thing: items which require other items to be bought are that much more expensive, bc when you buy the upgrade you lose the item you bought before, whereas if you buy a 6k item to swap a 500 one, you get back 250. Also use a build that u understand, or create your own in sandbox mode, so you don't have to think about the endless possibilities in-game wasting precious time.
@@amir6099 A 3000 item which also requires a 500 item costs 3500 in total, because when you upgrade it: you straight up lose the 500 item. The only time you "get back money" is if you don't have slots and sell a cheap item you don't need anymore to make space for a new, expensive item.
I guess my confusion comes in from the last hit vs souls... are you trying to deny their souls, too? Is that why you're not focusing on last hitting? It seems like you could be punching the weak ones, maybe harassing? Or is that what you mean? Sorry if this was explained elsewhere. Any time I play, I just punch weak minions or try to get both last hit and soul if I'm safe to do so.
Just because souls are more important than last hits does not mean you should stop last hitting. Brushing your teeth is more important than washing your hands, but ideally you would be doing both. I was attempting to underline the importance of not ignoring souls, and ended up confusing people instead.
You wiggle your crosshair a lot when you talk. Its fine when you have the mouse cursor out to talk about the map, for example. With the crosshair though, it might seem like natural hand movement to you, but it's very jarring to watch.

can you make a video talking about the objectives outside of laning
Absolutely!
@@loops9508 hell yeah
how do you play on an empty map? i kinda wanna explore the map but without the bots
On the main menu hit f7 to open the console, then use the command “map street_test”
thank you, very useful
The map being on the right really messes me up coming from dota wiyh 2.25k hours
Valve being valve you’ll almost definitely be able to flip the UI one day. Until then, my condolences.
