I'd forgotten that I had one of these as a young fella. It was a hand me down from my older brother's friend but I remember the mechanism for detaching the trailer and that old tiger logo that Esso used to use. Nice job sprucing it up.
I so enjoy watching your videos. It takes me away from lots of negative thoughts that tend to fill my head. The joy of depression and anxiety. So, thanks for doing what you do.
Ignoring the stickers as work in progress, a cracking restoration with wonderful detailing. I think you should put a Binns Road street sign on your shed door.
Hi Martin, great video, l really enjoyed watching this one ! I have done a couple of these AECs and they have turned out well just like yous has ! Looking forward to the next next one (lorry) l only do lorries because I don’t have room for anything else ha ha, well done. Regards Tony.
A great looking Dinky commercial vehicle. I've still got mine which I bought new as a kid, still in its box . Great resto job on this one. Radiator grill looks fantastic in black👍
Hello Martin it’s nice when you have a model that looks like it should be scrapped then. turn it into some thing that looks brand new great restoration. You are right about the transfer s hope you and your family are keeping well regards Glyn
As always Martin, it's all in the details and this one turned out beautifully. The stickers look OK but I can understand you wanting to replace them with transfers. The headlights looked great on the roundabout at the end, reflecting the light like they were meant to; it really looked like they were lit. That simple trick with the curtain wire looks excellent too, especially with the white rivet bunged in the 'ole.😁👌
Thanks very much , I put some tamyia clear orange behind the lights to see what the results were ,iam pretty pleased with them , the wire just finished it of . All the best martin 👍
@@martindaredare Ooh, I didn't realise you'd painted behind the jewels - very effective. At the moment, it looks like they're very dimly lit, like sidelights. I wonder, if you added a wee bit of yellow to the mix, would they look more like dipped beams? It's certainly one of the best effects I've seen on headights - well worth fiddling/experimenting with.😁
Wow, what a fantastic restoration Martin, once again your detailing is superb. I have one of these AEC tankers, I bought it cheap on ebay a couple of years ago, it needs 2 cab doors if I remember correctly. I'm waiting until I improve my restoration skills a bit more before attempting it. Another great video, thanks for sharing your skills again. All the best. Peter.
Looking awesome buddy 👍🏻📸 Great detailing! 🤗 I’ve bought and sold a few of those… Right now I have the tanker but no cab! 🤔 Haven’t found a replacement here yet. Cheers mate 🍻😎🇨🇦
Hi Martin,Wow,what a great restoration . It looks like a brand new model. I have a similar model only mine has Shell livery. Thanks for your video Martin.
Very nice resto Martin. Wow a lot of work involved with this like you say lots of rivets and tyres! Always thought this model was very underrated, so glad you did this a true favorite of mine and I do have one too. See you next time!
Cheers Mick , I would say it might have been the all white colour that made it a bit bland for youngsters but a good model all the same . All the best martin 👍
I remember them on display on shelves in woolies they are a big model ,I had the corgi major MACk tanker that was too a big model always wanted this one though ,AEC lorries once a common sight right up to the late 70s I think that cab was superseded by the ergonomic cab ,superb job my friend and yes they were heavy old models ,we were lucky as kids to have these but at the time we played with them In mud ,dirt sand etc Friday pocket money fiend to Woolworths or Patrick’s of Fulham if I didn’t quite have enough money my old grandad who I followed onto the post office I would say if I’m good can I have that bless him he would say just like your mum go on get it bless him ,all the best Mark 👍🏻😊
Excellent Martin, as you know I've done quite a few of these. I've got two more on the go at the moment and I'm doing something a little different with them. I will post the end result on the DMC group page. The worst thing doing these for me is pinging them axles over. All the best mate.
Cheers Steve, I know you like your trucks and lorrys, these are a lot of work ,like you say the axles are pretty tough to peen over . All the best martin 👍
Excellent restoration work Martin, love the detailing on this model, surprisingly it sure was a lot of parts connected with this particular truck & tanker trailer, very interesting restoration, enjoyed it. 👍 My friend you take care, stay safe , see ya on your next restoration. 👋😎🚗🚙🚎🚚🚛🚒
G'day Martin great resto as always. I can hear the frustration in your voice regarding the stickers. To be a real stickler for originality the paper ones are correct, but decals will be so much nicer. All the best, stay safe. Cheers Chris 🐨👍🏻🏁🇦🇺🍻
Beautiful restoration! I have the one from my childhood already disassembled and stripped. Might attempt a restoration soon. Mine is a later version, with a plastic tank, which is held with two screws instead of rivets.
Hi Martin this was a biggy, I'd have screwed the base on so you got somewhere to hide the biscoffs . Nice job and the Tiger on the tail made it turn out "GRRRRRRRREAT". All the best from Ian b & family.
I love watching you on the detailing, Martin - such care and patience, and a terrific result as usual! The tractor opening was a surprise - quite complex for what could have been a simpler connection between the chassis and cab unit. Looking at my Leyland Beaver, I see that I have MUCH more work to do than even that complicated AEC. Send me a box of your patience, please! Great job again! If you cannot find decals, Ian Treadgold at BlackSquare will make them for you!
Beautiful restoration Martin, I do love these AEC’s, I’ve yet to do one in the Esso version, I had bought the stickers like you but they really are crap so I won’t be using them! As always, your detailing is the tops, a really superb job! 11 out of 10 from me👌👍😊 Take care, all the best, Nick.
Nice resto Martin.I have one, hooked up to a Ford Transcontinental cab (Corgi),although i may change it as i now have a spare AEC cab.Talking of cabs,on the Dinky casting, this cab is based on the Mercury 5 cab, only thing is,they missed out the screen divider bar.The tank on the other hand,is,as far as i know, a generic unit.Corgi on their tanker, use a design based on the real Gloster-Saro tank.I can't recall where i got my Esso transfers from, but i agree, those stickers can be a bit of a nightmare.Look forward to your next resto. All the best.
Great information there my friend 👍 I did notice when looking at Google images that some had a front screen devider , I will have a go at doing that on my next cab of the same type. All the best martin 👍
Very smart 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻 Shame about the stickers but it’ll be nothing for a man of your calibre to sort out 😉.....I always far prefer decals........ Looks really good, even if you’re not completely happy!
I was considering my legal options for a second when you said “crackin’” but then I got a shout out so I’ve let it go on THIS occasion. Oh yeah, lovely work as always Martin. Ps. Love that fuel tank mechanism for getting the tanker off.
Hi Martin that turned out all white. 😂🤣 Just an idea if you want it to turn on the magic better you should take the petrol out first.😅😁😋 In all seriousness excellent job mate it looks just out of the box. As you say it's a pity about the stickers decals always look better but at least they are better than nothing. This vehicle would come in handy at a rock concert or sporting event with those six toilets on the top......Sorry sorry couldn't help myself.😄😁Catch you on the next one mate and I promise to take my medication before I watch it lol.👍👍
Reminded me of the late Mike Reid & the ugly duckling. Look at my new white whistle & flute. Neat resto Martin. Also remember the tiger in the tank ads. Plus the tiger tails you could tie on to your petrol pipe
@@martindaredare another thing I found when using paper sticker decals ( and any decals to be honest) is to put them in the paint before the clear goes on, gives a really seamless finish.
Martin, well done ok your not happy with your sticker's, but I would have been happy for that. Only a few little dots as my wife says if they look that closely they shouldn't be so nosey 😂.
