I adore this film! It is just hilarious and incredibly well made. Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn are both some of my favourite actors, they were fabulous in every movie they did over the years.
I saw it first back in the 70's when a was a little kid and love it!
Nowadays one of my favorites!
I'm here after reading that Christopher Reeve modeled his performance of Clark Kent after Cary Grant in "Bringing Up Baby."
i love this movie, it never gets old.
On the contrary, how many movies about leopards are there? I think that none of the parts of Bringing Up Baby have been done to death. Actually, I think that any classic slapstick humor only serves to make the movie better!
Skippy, the wire terrier, first appeared in _The Thin Man_ and later in _The Awful Truth_. So, by the time he did _Bringing Up Baby_, the novelty was kind of worn.
@@Kermit_T_Frog True but since then, what movies have showcased a leopard? Maybe it was worn out in 35' but is ever so relevant today.
Nissa the leopard was on her 9th film, and more of a Hollywood veteran than Grant or Hepburn, so maybe leopards were getting old in 1938. That said, it's baffling that such a groundbreaking film was considered old hat at the time.
The most beautiful set design of a house Ever! So much that the director's wife Slim Hawkins had this house built for her.

The house is to die for. Directed by Howard Hawks his wife Slim loved the interior and exterior of the house so much she had it built for her and Howard.
Absolutely loved this movie. Hepburn and Grant were hilarious.
Poor Cary Grant. He was the punching bag in this film but you don't feel sorry for him because the comedy is so effective.

Such a wonderful film. I often have many disagreements with AO Scott. But not here, he hits it right on the head. It does not matter if there are cliches, it matters simply if the jokes land and if there is a sort of magic that wraps you up and makes you care for the characters. Which Bringing Up Baby does spectacularly. Coming up on being 90 years old, this film holds up better than most comedies of the last 25 years. If you haven’t seen, do yourself a favor and sit down and watch. It will leave you with nothing but laughs and an incredible fondness for Grant and especially Hepburn. I fell madly in love with her character lol this film really showed her range. I always enjoyed her, but this was the film that made me extremely fond of her.
Grant and Hepburn's films are treasures!!
I read that this movie and Phlidelphia story helped Hepburn's image a lot; Cary Grant showed her a lot about comedy. They're both hilarious in this movie
Hepburn while not noted as a comedienne shows expert skill in comedy!

Frank S. Nugent, in his later work as a writer for Hollywood films, contributed to Westerns and other "masculine" and gun-slinging films. I'd guess he just didn't really understand comedies as great as Bringing Up Baby.
I don't think originality matters in any art form, or ever has. Many times artists do mass experimentation before they publish their art, and the experimental work was often vastly more original than what they released but was also far less impactful, with less brevity, and was even less clever and less thoughtful. You can't just go around scribbling and call it great, but you can learn that there are new ways to do familiar things that can be great if executed properly.
Originality doesn't matter, being unique matters. And being unique is not hard, but being great at being unique is rare.
Of course originality matters… Originality and innovation is actually the two main reasons why any film feels unique!
The best films should be both original and well done! The idea comes first, and there next comes the execution.

Other screwball comedies of that vintage are dated because of their need to be socially relevant. This one is the Seinfeld - it’s gleefully about nothing important at all.

The scene where he hurts and intimidates her and the other woman isn't funny at all. It's the only moment I really disliked in the movie.
yes but the fact that he was doing that while dressed in womens fluffy night robe made me chuckle 😂

A total flop then and a total flop now. People will watch anything if people tell them it's funny.
It's more charming than anything.
