  • Learn some pixel art styles in this clip studio paint tutorial. Pixel art in clip studio paint is super easy, there are lots of tools and available options. Huge thanks to Clip Studio Paint for sponsoring this video!
    Clip Studio Paint is a multi-purpose art program, pixel art, digital art, comics, illustration, animation, are all possible. In this video, you will learn how I create a pixel art character in multiple styles using clip studio paint's tools. We go through 8 different art styles, from basic pixel art to retro pixel art, to full 2D digital art, before adding in some animation with my clip studio paint animation workflow.

    Wow I love all the design parameters you used in developing each unique style! The no-outline metallic one looks ready for its own metroidvania-style game where it defends a digital artscape using a series of "art attacks" 😂And the illustrated version can be used in the game manual!
    Great tips here btw, and a wonderful presentation as always dude! :D

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  2 роки тому +6

      Thanks Brandon!!! Hahah I love that, the design was actually inspired by Samus so I’m glad that metroidvania vibe comes through, in the original thumbnail designs you can see it actually had a blaster arm that was going to be a pixel blaster. Not sure why I didn’t go with that, maybe I forgot 😂 Yes!!! I used to love looking at game manuals waiting to get home, it was always a bonus if there was some cool art in there. You end up already loving a game before even playing it 😂 Thanks so much! ❤️

      @BJGpixel 2 роки тому +1

      @@saultoons Oh yeah look at that - love the pixel blaster haha! Very cool how that was part of the inspiration; and beyond that the 'art theme' is such an intriguing idea for a character/world with that styling :D

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  2 роки тому +2

      @@BJGpixel Yeah you could go even further with it, maybe a 1-bit world , when you slay the demons or whatever it introduces colour into the area. You could use it to teach art concepts in a subtle way... Like injecting people with art knowledge without them knowing :'D

  • @SigilWizardClassic
    @SigilWizardClassic 2 роки тому +14

    Honestly, my favorite has to be the CHONKEY one. I'm normally not one for (lack of a better term) fat robots, I just don't find a point to making a humanoid machine fat, but there is something about him that makes him stand out more than his girth.
    I see that particular robot being some kind of guardian for an endangered princess, but not one that's super weak or anything, one that fights beside him. He takes on the big, tougher machines while she handles all the smaller ones. If there are tiny ones trying to climb all over him, she's got him covered with magic, or hacking tools, or a beam weapon of sorts. And if there's a massive one trying to claw over the guardian to get to her, he's never letting that claw near her. They compliment each other and nothing can stop them. Oh, and those aren't wings on his back, in my mind, it's a giant shield with THICC armor and barrier technology.

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  2 роки тому +2

      This is a great analysis and interesting viewpoint! I also imagine them super huge like a gundam or something, and in the chonkey one there are room compartments for the pilot, but engineers and control systems on board like a submarine or something 😂 Either way coming up with ideas for characters is always a super fun part of the process and it was interesting to hear your take on this! Thanks Sigil Wizard it’s always a pleasure

I have a few drawing art apps on my windows laptop but I find it very hard to draw with a mouse... as you can see Im new to this kind of art... but i want to create art like you did creating the last character with clean lines and the glowing heart... that is so cool. I use a drawing tablet for the 2D version, you really don’t need an expensive one at all. It helps a lot when drawing the lines to get some control, especially with stabilisation on :) Clip studio has vector lines so you can still draw with a mouse and edit the lines afterwards too. But would definitely recommend getting an entry level drawing tablet if that’s your goal :D yes this was all made in Clip studio :)

      @@saultoons I can't thank you enough... Your videos prove you are a great / fun creative person.. I really enjoy them. Yes, I'm looking on Amazon right now looking at drawing tablets. If you don't mind me asking, what drawing tablet do you use with the Clip Studio Paint? I am looking at the; Huion Kamvas 13 or the Gaomon PD1161 or the XPen Artist 12. Are you familiar with any of these? My goal is to use the Clip Studio Paint and one of these tablets to start creating my own NFT's. I have experience working with layered images in a really old Paint Shop Pro 7 version, its like 15 years old, ...lol and I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, and then a couple of other software package like Aseprite and Pyxel Edit. Anyway, Im going to purchase the Clip Studio Paint so I can reference your videos to help me in my work. When I create my first couple series of NFT's I will send you a new release from each series, that is if you collect NFT's and have a crypto address I can send them to. This will take me some time. I plan to start this weekend and release by the end of next month so we will see. Like I mentioned I want to create images like the last drawing you did.. that one is awesome... I really like the others too but mostly the last one. I Hope my excitement isn't misplaced here... I'm a late middle aged guy lol, my girlfriend thinks I'm nuts lol, but I want to do this to fill my spare time. I look forward to your response about what drawing tablet you use. Thank you for sharing your talent sir. It is much appreciated.

    I have a question, maybe it was said in the video and I missed it, but I for whatever reason cannot draw on such a tiny canvas just yet, can you scale the canvas up? Any draw backs in doing so? I really want to make food and character icons that are very detailed like my typical digital art, but pixel art is alluding me haha.

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  2 роки тому

      It depends how large you go really, the beauty of pixel art is it's not always about explicitly showing the detail but hinting at it with a careful arrangement of pixels, especially at the smaller sizes. That doesn't mean you can't make larger pixel art canvases and show all the detail you want, but at a point it becomes closer to digital art and you lose control over the individual pixels. No right or wrong, just do what you feel comfortable with, try increasing canvas size if it's not working out for you, but sometimes it can help to force the small limits on yourself as well. I'd recommend checking out my Ultimate Pixel Art tutorial for more pointers, and the 'Drawing Pixel Art Every Day' video to see what I mean about the impact of individual pixels :) Best of luck! :D

    I love CSP for drawing and painting and I use it for hours every day. Unfortunately I find it next to useless for pixel art because the brush engine doesn't make pixel perfect marks. Take a round brush with a small size and make a few clicks and you'll find it doesn't create perfect circles and every mark is inconsistent from the other. Making line art with a one pixel brush is also a pain because it creates a lot of overlapping pixels and doesn't connect with the corners like it does in virtually every other software.

      2 more quickies; first, I was smart enough to delete the dot pen before seeing your tutorial and how amazing pixel art can be on CSP (I just used dedicated software), any chance you know how to bring it back?
      Second, I was thinking about how to import or use color palettes with CSP, is there a way to limit it/ load in palettes like with Aseprite?
      Thanks a bazillion Saul, you da man, man!

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  2 роки тому

      To restore a brush, it seems you can click the little burger menu above the brush thing and click add additional sub tools. There are a couple of different solutions too if that doesn’t work a quick Google will sort you out :D
      For colour palettes just use the colour set window, you can import images and assign each colour manually and save it as a new preset or I’m sure there’ll be a way to import directly to the colour set but I haven’t messed around with it. Just see what you can do with it, there’s a lot to discover with CSP it has a lot of functionality and tools :)
