Never use a metal hammer on leather tools, it's too hard and they are too soft and will be damaged. You need to get a polymer hammer or maul with a decent amount of weight to it. You can pick up a cheap one at places like Harbor freight. You also could get a polymer cutting board for punching your holes on, also can be cheap but won't dull the tips of your pricking irons. you should also add an Awl to your kit which can be used for marking out your patterns.
Yes we have all these upgraded tool, but if someone was wanting to start leather working TODAY they could get it done at the very least with these tools. These are by no means ideal.
That’s the exact knife I go to most. Because it has a retractable blade , it’s my safest knife. I use a cheap mallet, and a steel ruler with cork on the back side. The forks, leather diamond chisels, are awesome, but I always use glue to hold things till the sewing 🪡 goes in.
DONT EVER EVER USE A METAL HAMMER!! U need with a nylon hammer or plastic. Usen a metal hammer will destroy ur metal tools. It's cheap for a rubber mallet at home Depot. When u have more money u can upgrade it. Never metal
