Mom has stage 4 colorectal cancer 😢 it was diagnosed last June and she had a transverse colostomy procedure because the tumor in her recto sigmoid area is huge and blocking her bowel movements and already metastasized in her liver. She is now in adjuvant chemotherapy to prevent the cancer cells from spreading further. If the chemotherapy is successful, her surgeon will perform a Complete Mesocolic Excision or CME.
Can anyone shed some light on this question? Has anyone with Crohns dealt with the following before? Having a Colonoscopy and finding polyps, they're removed and sent for biopsy to find results are cancerous. Lead to colon cancer
Friends, please get in there and get a colonoscopy as soon as you are old enough for your health insurance to cover it. The procedure is really not a big deal. I believe many health plans will actually pay for the whole screening, with no copay. It is just that important to them, and I am sure that their actuaries have calculated the risk of having to pay for cancer treatments vs colonoscopies.
Yeah. SEVENTY PERCENT of colorectal cancers present in the DESCENDING colon and the rectum. This means a most screenings can be accomplished using just a flexible sigmoidoscopy. Moreover, most perforations occur in the proximal or ascending colon on the right side. Thus, going all the way over to the ascending colon involves high risk for little reward. All the more so if you are a male patient.
Keep up the good work! I'd like to point out one mistake. FAP is not the same as Lynch syndrome. It is the same as HNPCC though :)
