  • Today we are going to make The Harumi Bag by Amercian Stitcher's. I LOVED making this bag, there were so many cool techniques that I had never used before! I tuned it into an iPad or Kindle bag instead of a concealed carry bag. The options are endless with this amazing pattern! You can get a copy of the pattern using this link:

We used the following faux leathers to make this bag:

The lining was in the color Lilas:

Hi Chris. A little tip from watching Barbie on Jeannie's Designs, when she gets to the hardware, she backs away from it about 1" when starting down the 2nd half of her strap instead of putting the back of her sewing arm toward the hardware.

Very good pattern and tutorial. My only observation about the magazine pocket is that it was way more complicated than it needed to be. I think a better design would be to make it as modified slip pocket (like you did) but have all enclosed edges. So, you sew the stabilized pocket and lining right sides together, leaving an opening on the side for turning, then, after right sides out, fold on the pleat lines and stitch it on. Those quarter inch folded edges in the pattern had me scratching my head.

What kind of sewing machine does you sew with, because I was told you can't sew cotton with juki 1541

Mary, I use a Consew 206RB5. It is a true industrial machine. It does not like cotton but when interfaced it does okay. If I am not filming, I will use my Janome domestic machine to sew the cotton pockets, etc. It is just too hard to switch the camera around every time I need to do that. I hope that helps!
