hello@nowtolove.co.nz
I’m close to 80 and from Taiwan. Tonight after watching your way of making scones,
I couldn’t help but try my hands on it. I followed you closely especially your joyful spirit .
Believe it or not, the result was wonderfully successful. This is the first time I bake with
A relaxed and joyful mood. Thank you very much for your joyful spirit!
Annabelle White is a national treasure. Nobody else is as infectiously enthusiastic and overwhelmingly positive as her. Such a pleasure to watch and learn from
3 cups flour, baking powder, 70g ice cold butter (grated), mix with knife. Add Dried fruit (raisins), add cup buttermilk- mix with knife. Add another half cup buttermilk. Crank up oven 200 degrees. Add flour to working top- pet the dough softly. Get a tray and with sharp knife make cuts to dough and place on the tray. Don't worry if it's too wet. Don't measure too much. If you're nervous than add some flour.
I just did 3 different recipes including yours. One recipe with added egg and another with lemonade minus butter. Annabelle's recipe turned out the best and the way I've always liked scones - tasty, light, fluffy, moist. I think the grated butter which doesn't incorporate too well is the secret. Thanks so much, Annabelle. This recipe is for keep.
I made these and they worked out perfectly! Hooray no more rock buns for scones! Thanks Annabelle. I used half buttermilk and half ordinary milk (2% fat) because I’m not crazy about the tart taste of buttermilk. But you need to use some buttermilk or you won’t get the wonderful rise. I also added 2 tablespoons of sugar along with the flour just to have a touch of sweet. I sprinkled a wee bit of sugar on top of each before baking. Used a 425 F oven. The were baked in 13 minutes. Otherwise I made them exactly as shown. Used a knife to mix and I froze the butter ahead of grating. That’s 1/3 cup of butter for us North Americans.
See what I mean this video may be old. But I just love how us kiwis get straight to the point of making food or baking stuff just do it. Doesn’t matter what it looks like aslong as it taste good! Perfect scones.
I have never had this much fun watching anybody cook anything. This gal is a hoot!

Lovely to watch you.
Oh Dear , Ms. White- you are so cheerful and I can tell that you really enjoy your craft. Super video and thank you so very much.
I love Annabelle's way of avoiding the classic mistake of over-handling the dough - by just chopping it up she doesn't end up with extra that she then has to mix together. I also like the no-sugar thing - I always thought scones didn't have it - and the fact that she doesn't fuss about brushing the tops with milk or egg or both but just lets them brown by themselves. My scones have always turned out flat, they never rise, but by golly I think they will when I make these. Annabelle, you're a treat! Thanks heaps.
Just baked a batch of these with 1 cup of yoghurt as I don’t have buttermilk on hand, also 1/2 cup of milk with a good squeeze of lemon. They look awesome. Thanks Annabelle, you’ve saved my scone heartaches and now I love baking scones!
I watched this during lockdown. I hate baking, because I have always failed at it, but I missed my scones and decided to give it a go! I can tell you this recipe is fail proof. Instead of adding dried fruit, I added fetta cheese, cheddar and olives and then I diversified with other fillings like mushroom , capsicum ..etc. So far, I have literally done no less than ten batches and I am loving it! Thank you very much Annabelle, for the happiness and laughs and smiles that I had from my children eating this. God bless!
These are the BEST scones ever.... I cannot stop making them...Sultana... Cheese.... Date & Walnut... The list is endlessTHANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING X
“Oh, take another one; life is short.” 😂🤣👏🏿 Love 💕 this video!
Thank you , every recipe these days adds egg. My mums scones were amazing and she never ever used eggs only to milk wash before baking. Love it my mum would be smiling from up above . Xox
My 3rd attempt at these. Not because it's difficult. Because am a Male and can't cook. They came out bloody amazing. I went the whole 1 and a half cups of buttermilk. Well worth it. Best eva scones ;D
May 2021...Annabelle...this recipe is perfection, I just made them to have on hand for breakfast. Thanks so much!!
The grated butter is a baking GEM. Thanks Annabelle
I am a New Zealander in Thailand. Thank you Annabelle.
Next time I make scones, I'm going to go over the edge!!! Love this lady. ❤️
I made these just now and they are the lightest, tastiest, non-fussiest and quickest scones ever! Thank you!
OMG!!!!! Hello from America. I can't make bread at all; I failed (past tense) miserably at my one attempt at scones, then I watched this video. OMG !!! This is my 3rd batch, and I changed it up a bit. I didn't use as much buttermilk, because for me it left that tangy flavor -- so, I mixed it half and half with regular whole milk. I also sifted the flour, which might not be necessary, but it's what I did. I also used a pastry blender instead of a knife. I tried the just glop it on the baking sheet for first two tries, but on this one, I gently patted it and formed a rectangle kind of, and used a metal bench scraper and cut them into triangles. The first batch were just plain, the second with fresh blueberries (I didn't have a lemon, but if I had, I would have put in some juice and zest) -- this batch I used cinnamon raisin -- I also used all purpose flour and a little self raising, and added two teaspoons of baking powder and one of baking soda. They are delicious. Oh, this time around I used a really hot oven -- 450 F fan, and when I turned them, I blotted the top with melted butter. So much for my NY's resolution to lose weight !!! Thank you so much for posting. They are divine -- Cheers -- Patricia
The grating of butter and 'no touch' is absolutely the answer for humid Sydney and hot hands. I still cut cut rounds with less wet dough - still works every time! Thanks Annabelle
Omg! I love her!! She kept calling the viewers muffins. She’s amazing. This is the best... now I have to bake scones. Thank you for posting. We need more!
Grazie mille Annabelle. What a treat. I love scones but always get disappointed when I buy them from cafes. I added dates instead and they turned out to be the best date scones I have ever tasted in my life and I mean that... Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. You've added colour to my life :D
Oh blimey, what a star. Now being a Pomme I feel duty bound to praise Mary Berry. I've followed her recipes for years. But wow, this cook is just a joy to watch. Plus, I've never seen scones made so easily and cleanly. It's how I remember my mother used to make them, with just a bowl, a cup and a knife. No food mixer or scone cutters, just her experienced eye. They were perfect every time.
@MrPippinsays ... Pommie. Get it right. 😉
Your enthusiasm is CONTAGIOUS. I will be a follower for now on!! Thank you!
You are a lovely teacher. So much fun! And you really show us how to do it!
My wifes scones flop and never seems to get it right. I work from home so I thought why not look for a scone recipe and I ended up here. Oven on, prepped ingredients (did not have any butter milk) so used ordinary full cream milk) placed in oven, took a few mins longer on 220fan. Watched till golden brown, cooled, jam out, cream whisked. Prepare scones (made 16 of them). Recipe 100% . Taste could be a little sweeter but no complaints on the ingredients (maybe the buttermilk makes the difference) I am now stuffed on just 4 of them ha ha ha. Top class Annabelle. And the only scone maker in the house Drat should have kept my mouth shut.
Now I am baking a Forest Gateau tomorrow.

They look more like rock buns to me!
