This dude is awesome. I can't tell if he's speaking English or German. His fashion is so out of order yet looks good on him. His joke is so late and he tells it so seriously which makes it funny.
Autogefühl ist kein 100% gefühl ohne Thomas aber nur ein (sehr guten) review. Thomas is master of giving just that extra "gefühl" on a review and even on a bike.👍🏼🥇
Boxster every time for me Thomas, when the suns shining and the views are amazing, the Boxster wins every time. And the roof on the Boxster is so fast to open and close and is very quiet when closed. I had an amazing 90 minutes at the Porsche driving experience silverstone, roof down 😀 favourite colour is GT sliver with gts black alcantara trim with the white contrasting stitching (like in the chalk coloured Cayman). Love your reviews, they’re so detailed and we get to see everything about the car 👍🏻
Oh you are so right about the design vs function (convertible). My heart is bleeding but I am trading my 718 Cayman S to a 718 Boxster S right now... Driving with an open top is so great I even overlook the fact the Cayman looks so much better...
Many thanks Thomas & Katharina - as always, the detail and commentary is so good. And really great images looking forward through the windscreen in the driving parts. Nice car - I'd choose the Boxster for its open top, over the Cayman. Many thanks.
Very true about Alcantara wheel. I live in Las Vegas where it is over 100 degrees for 5 months and Alcantara wheels do not get hot even if the car is sitting in sun all day. I like the feel better also. The wheel does not get cold in winter also. I only get Alcantara wheels.
Another excellent review by Thomas. You make me want all of these magnificent autos but unfortunately I can not afford them just my 2018 Audi S5 Sportback. You are the best reviewer on the internet your job is my dream.
I would always prefer the Cayman GTS because the silhouette, the black elements and the alcantara in the interior looks so fantastic! I´m still not the biggest Fan of this new 4 cylinder engine but it has its own character. The performance of the 718 with this great undercarriage and the perfect balancing is still matchless.💪 Maybe the Boxster / Cayman is the best Porsche because they are very compact. You don`t need more than that ! Perfect car, perfect landscape and perfect music. Well done Autogefühl 👏
Why is Thomas so likeable?? Nice soothing voice, sexy accent, knowledgeable without being a know it all, explains just enough without making you feel dumb or too smart. He's the guy.. Design wise, the Cayman is more streamlines smooth flowing lines the best looking and more room for luggage or golf clubs. But I live in AZ (always Summer) so I always take the convertible version of any car.
Thomas, congratulations on this video as good as all the ones you make. I want to clarify that your indication that this GTS has the PASM 10 mm lower suspension can be misinterpreted, since the car, as seen in the photographs, there is no doubt that the suspension is the PASM Sport, which It is -20mm lower than the standard PSAM -10mm lower than the normal non-active suspension. In the 718 GTS - also in the current GTS 4.0 - the standard suspension is the PASM Sport -20 mm but optionally and for greater ground clearance, the PASM standart -10 mm can be chosen at no additional cost. In any case, I think your comment is very important that the car, even with that -20 mm suspension that it carries, is surprisingly comfortable, as it is a very useful indication for any buyer. I remember you also made a similar comment in the test of the Bosxter T (which also comes equipped like the GTS with the PASM -20 mm), that the suspension was reasonably comfortable and much more comfortable than that of other sports cars such as the Jaguar. F-Type. Thank you very much for your work and your excellent videos that we really enjoy.
Excellent review from a gentleman. I just ordered my first Porsche - 718 Cayman. I prefer the hardtop. Tho I live in Tucson AZ, where a Boxster could be the thing, I like a non-convertible like I'm used to. Less noise, cleaner interior, etc. Personal preference. I'm a neat person where dust & tree residue would trouble me. Porsche is tops and I'm not giving away the farm to buy a 718. I'm 73 years old. Good way to finish out my time on earth.
As for the preference between Cayman and Boxster...I do like the styling of the Cayman, but have never considered buying one. I put the top down on my Boxster nearly every day (no real winter in south Texas) and certainly plan to get the 718 Boxster. Fantastic video as usual!
Thomas, You’re the best auto vehicles reviewer on UA-cam. I took your advice and chose the BMW sensatec and not contributing to killing of animals in your other video, thank you for that advice, I love my dogs. You are the best, candid and honest of these cars that you review, don’t change that style, hopefully you stay honest and not go for money!
@@autogefuehl Hi I really admire you. you're german but you're very honest and expert about cars, you know that the 911 has too much weight on the back and the engine in a non good position, the real sport cars have rear traction and mid engine. Well done!! This will be my next car (maybe the basic version even if the gts would be awesome)
Great car .I think the Cayman is more like a traditional porsche.A back to roots like old 911 .The modern 911 has sort of gone out of control in power/price .This is like a classic sports Porsche in modern times that is also pretty affordable for normal people. Great review Thomas, keep it up!
This is so wrong :) Actually completely wrong. The 911 has NOT gone out of control in terms of price. It costs exactly the same as 25-30 years ago. For this example, I am going by the last official model year price for a 911 C2 (964) and compare it to today's base 911 (991.2) (German market). In 1992, a base 911 cost 122340 DM = 62551 EUR. This translates to a price of 97390 EUR adjusted for inflation in "today's money". And today? This price straight from the Porsche online configurator for a new 991.2 is 97914 EUR. So a 911 costs "exactly" as much as it did almost 30 years ago!! But in reality, it has gotten a lot cheaper, seeing how much more shit they are building in to them which you could not have 30 years ago. So a lot more car for the SAME price as ever. And your ideas regarding too much power: Seriously: the 997 base engine was OK and the 997 S better of course; but the 991 base engine that followed it simply did not have enough juice, so that you were really only well served with the S model. Ignoring the unicorns like GT2/3, turbo models, current Porsche are powered just fine - brakes, suspension and all the rest have also developed over the past 30 years so that actually a Porsche drives just like a VW Golf, as long as you don't push the pedal too much. And the new Cayman/Boxster now reached the performance of the previous base 911, so either they are all crazy over-powered and over-priced, or your gut feeling is really wrong. Which it is. Everybody including my frail old parents can drive a Porsche just like any other car, they are not over-powered. I once came across a Porsche documentary in the 80s and some retired former higher-up Porsche employee said: "The affordable Porsche is the pre-owned Porsche". 30-40 years on, I still think the man had a point...
Excellent! Nicely done review and great views along the way. I feel like I've been out on a pleasant Sunday drive. Love my 2008 Boxster and after bunches of cars owned, I agree the Boxster is the best sportscar on the road.
I'd be hard pressed to find better videography anywhere on UA-cam. Thomas, you and your crew offer up the full package. Thank you for this very fine review. At the moment I have to stick with my 2 generations ago Cayman S (987.2), which is such a blast to drive and can be purchased used at very reasonable prices here in the states. And the .2 avoids any potential issues with the IMS. Keep up the good work and I'll save up my $$ for the 981 because I still enjoy the sound of the flat 6. But after watching your video, I'm tempted...
I have a 981 Cayman S. I prefer the Cayman styling over the Boxster, but that is my personal preference. I also drove a 718 Cayman S at PEC in Atlanta on the track. It was bloody quick.
9:30 I'd still go with the leather steering wheel. I live in AZ, the heat is not a problem, in cold areas it does get cold but you can get the heated steering wheel as an option. The leather is very durable. 120,000miles, no problems at all. Good to know it rides more comfortably than a Jaguar F-Type
Great review, Thomas. The Boxster is my favourite Porsche and have been waiting for a good GTS review. Well done to you and your team ;-> Nice watch too
This video deserves a replay! The 911 turbo s has only 6 cylinders with 2 small turbos at 200k++ thankfully this is where the 718 got its technology to create the 4 cylinder with 1 large turbo at
Thomas, if you get a chance google "718 Boxter S dyno test." A few people put a boxter/cayman on a chassis dynamometer and it made 340 hp at the wheels. Normally there is 15-20% hp less from drivetrain loss, which means that either the porsche is losing very little hp from engine to the wheels(highly unlikely) or it is REALLY underrated(more likely).
Hey Thomas , not only this channel portrays cars but also makes us to listen to good electronic music. Could please provide the link of the background music which begins at 7:49?
Great review as alway, Thomas - thanks a lot! You mentioned that you want to post or mention the fuel consumption for cruising and for the race track. Do you have those numbers?
thanks! racetrack is always off limits. And consumption rather stayed the way it was on the road, but we were mainly going uphill. 10 - 11 l is realistic
Excellent review, as always! I've always loved Porsche's GTS cars because they tend to be the sweet spot in the lineup, as far as the price to performance ratio goes. Personally, I prefer the Cayman because where I live in Ohio, the climate isn't nice for open top driving most of the year. Plus I agree that the coupe just looks sportier overall. I will definitely purchase Cayman GTS manual at some point, probably lightly used to save some money. It's easy to find these cars with low miles and in pristine condition.
Very cool cars. I prefer the coupe in this review but that may be because Thomas pushed it hard on the race track haha! I thought there was too much alcantara for my taste. I liked it on the steering wheel and thats it. The alcantara fabric on the seats looks "messy" if its not brushed properly. Thats my only complaint about it. Another enjoyable review all together. Great job autogefuehl!
I am debating on whether to buy a Cayman S with a 2.5L turbo or the GTS 4.0 engine. Which engine do you think is more fun to drive? Any feedback is apperciated.
I’m not a fan of the interior and rear of this car but I absolutely love the front bumper and how it looks like there is no front. Is this an option on any other cars? Thanks
I have one but find myself rewatching this during the day as l miss it so much. If l ever upgrade this l will go for a manual with sports buckets for that extra wow factor. I love my 4cyl cars so when Porsche finally decided to pull the trigger on its development in 2015 l got in straight away. As good as a car gets for me. I also just luv the Cayman, those mountains & forest drives with the roof off thou 😍 2good to pass up. I had the $ for a 911, ezy sell on a 718 for me, such a g8 all rounder, smaller and also better looking imho. Thanks Thomas, awesome as usual mate 👍
Its the Cayman for me every time , I just think its better in looks in my own view. Gotta have the Blue one of course !! always remind me of Thomas blue reference !! Hhehe
nice review. I still prefer the sounds of the flat-6. oh, and I drive mine with the top down at 5C. just turn the heater on and dress appropriately 😉. And I like both. The Cayman in GT4 trim though.
I’m sold. Open top driving. Nice work with the longer videos Thomas. I test drove a 2017 S recently and had a blast. Considering ordering a 2020 GTS and doing my homework. Going forward I’m curious what changes are in store for the Boxster? Sports exhaust will be standard...can they improve the turbo 4 sounds? Is aftermarket exhaust worth considering?
Thomas, quick update, just picked up my new 2018 Boxster GTS. Sounds great! Any reservations I had about making the purchase quickly disappeared. First drive 452 miles where it is now home in Northern California. I want to thank you again for your insightful work! 🍻
Excellente revue très approfondie et permettant de se faire une meilleure idée sur une auto!!! I love the Cayman GTS. I would like to know if the option available on the GTS as the PASM minus 20mm is not too uncomfortable on the normal roads and if it’s better to stay on the minus 10mm for some difficulties we can find on the normal roads. Do you think that the yellow brakes are a good option? Thank you for your answer Et vive le 4 cylindre
Autogefühl Excuse me , listening to you, I understood that minus 10mm was enough comfortable to drive on normal roads but I didn’t hear about minus 20mm. To understand English speaking is not always easy for me, so perhaps I missed some words. So if you can write me your advise I would appreciate very much. I have ordered a chalk Cayman GTS for the end of march and it’s still possible to modify the configuration. Thank you for your time
Autogefühl Sorry but on the 718 Gts is like with the 911 Gts, you get the PASM and you can choose between minus 10mm and minus 20mm. The PASM works the same with both high but the car his more hard with the minus 20mm. Perhaps Porsche gave you a minus 20mm for the track and you drove it. My experience on the 718 was with an S and PASM minus 10mm so, it’s why I try to get information about the -20mm. Thank you very much for you answer. And I want to tell you that I haven’t drove as many cars than you but I agree with all what you say on the Cayman.
I love the fact you always recomend the base models. You are totally right about the pure experience by keeping it simple/base. But hey, whay would I know, I’m driving girlfriend’s Chevrolet Kalos. One of the best everyday driver’s reviews out there, keep up the good work!
that one you have is so amazing! I wish they offered it for all Golf models. But one representative once told me that you might get it also for a Non-Clubsport-Golf if you insist at the dealer
Hello , I own a cayman 718 S, every time I use sports + mode, it automatically goes in to manual mode , how do in stop that from happening, I would like to drive it on automatic transmission
45:00 I hope you dont rest your head there "as its ment to be", its ment to save your spine and neck from injury if you crash. Great review, great car. Have a good one guys
Thomas I just finished watching 6 of your reviews very thorough and insightful I just subscribed to your channel. I've been looking at 911 and 718. After seeing your review I would lean more toward 718 at this point. Power and balance seem to be spot on. While I love 911 they have become so expensive and are you really getting more performance for your money than 718 I don't think so unless you getting 911 GTS or Turbo S, GT3 RS, GT2 RS those last three are super cars. Where as the average person can afford 718 and can extract more of its potential whether it be on back road or race track.
LOL! Maybe its a standard one then. I was hard to see in the video but I thought i saw one of these: alpinawatches.com/e-strap . I was debating picking one up for my startimer but have no feedback into anyone who has the e strap.
Very chilled review.
Best reviewer in my opinion 😁
Thanks so much! Please recommend our channel 😎

The Boxster looks much better with the top down, you can’t say that about the Cayman, lol. 142,000 miles on my 05 Boxster S.
king thomas is back ! 👏
+Dave Hodgkin 😎
Many thanks Thomas & Katharina - as always, the detail and commentary is so good. And really great images looking forward through the windscreen in the driving parts. Nice car - I'd choose the Boxster for its open top, over the Cayman. Many thanks.

Always enjoy your reviews. The Boxster GTS is a great dream for me.. Maybe someday
Another excellent review by Thomas. You make me want all of these magnificent autos but unfortunately I can not afford them just my 2018 Audi S5 Sportback. You are the best reviewer on the internet your job is my dream.
You've sold me.
I'm buying an alcantara wheel for my '84 Hyundai Elantra.
Fred Hassen wear and tear, please watch how bad alcantara wear over time compared to leather
+car addicted 👌
Why is Thomas so likeable?? Nice soothing voice, sexy accent, knowledgeable without being a know it all, explains just enough without making you feel dumb or too smart. He's the guy.. Design wise, the Cayman is more streamlines smooth flowing lines the best looking and more room for luggage or golf clubs. +白金 👍
He is the best car reviewer.
Thanks m8 ☺️
Just stunning, if I had to choose (& was lucky enough to have the money to pick one), I would go for the 718 Cayman, in dark blue!
the boxster gets mor and more beautiful with every gen. the only down on this one is the engine which is not the flat6 but it sound good for a flat4.
Fantastic footage quality. Autogefühl is now on a par with movie standards. Keep it going.🤗🤗🤗
yiha!

+Ante Susnjar thanks!!
Great review! I would definitely go for the 981 Cayman though, that engine is glorious.
thanks keep joining us!
Great review
I am debating on whether to buy a Cayman S with a 2.5L turbo or the GTS 4.0 engine. Which engine do you think is more fun to drive? Any feedback is apperciated.
perfect review!
+Hermet Park thanks!
Great Job Thomas !
+Manny Echaluce 👌
Hello from Miami, I always like your videos...recently ordered a Cayman GTS with PDK, my first Automatic. Hopefully will arrive early April.
cheers and greetings!
I Love Thomas' enthusiasm for porsche caymans. Making me seriously reconsider a cayman :)
=)
I’m not a fan of the interior and rear of this car but I absolutely love the front bumper and how it looks like there is no front. Is this an option on any other cars? Thanks
Great Review.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hhehe
+LEE AVISON 😎
Gran trabajo como siempre! felicitaciones again!
+pablo cesar grazie!
nice review. I still prefer the sounds of the flat-6. oh, and I drive mine with the top down at 5C. just turn the heater on and dress appropriately 😉.
And I like both. The Cayman in GT4 trim though.
thanks, stay tuned!
Cheers! Tbh the Porsche sound wont ever be that awesome. I d rather concentrate on driving/handling =)
Thomas, quick update, just picked up my new 2018 Boxster GTS. Sounds great! Any reservations I had about making the purchase quickly disappeared. First drive 452 miles where it is now home in Northern California. I want to thank you again for your insightful work! 🍻
@@rschotsal1 cool - enjoy man =)
Excellente revue très approfondie et permettant de se faire une meilleure idée sur une auto!!!
Thank you for your answer
Et vive le 4 cylindre
+Alain Boulicot thanks! Have u listened to my remarks in the driving part?
Autogefühl
Excuse me , listening to you, I understood that minus 10mm was enough comfortable to drive on normal roads but I didn’t hear about minus 20mm. To understand English speaking is not always easy for me, so perhaps I missed some words.
So if you can write me your advise I would appreciate very much.
I have ordered a chalk Cayman GTS for the end of march and it’s still possible to modify the configuration.
Thank you for your time
the PASM is always standard on the GTS as far as I got it. I found it good, even if I would also be just fine with the base suspension
Autogefühl
Sorry but on the 718 Gts is like with the 911 Gts, you get the PASM and you can choose between minus 10mm and minus 20mm.
Good night, that thing is gorgeous! Shame about the engine note. The flat 6 wail was one of the high points in the previous generation.
I love the fact you always recomend the base models. You are totally right about the pure experience by keeping it simple/base. But hey, whay would I know, I’m driving girlfriend’s Chevrolet Kalos.
One of the best everyday driver’s reviews out there, keep up the good work!
thanks! Always trying to find the best price/performance for our viewers!
I don't see the bucket seat option in the US. Is this not offered in US??? :(
My Golf GTI clubsport has an alcantara steering wheel and i love it
that one you have is so amazing!
Great review, as usual.
+Otter'sTravels 👌
45:00 I hope you dont rest your head there "as its ment to be", its ment to save your spine and neck from injury if you crash. Great review, great car. Have a good one guys
Which transmission do you prefer? PDK or manual?
Love the 80s synthesizer music!
+Leskylor ✌️
Which one is better c8 vs boxter?
Thomas I just finished watching 6 of your reviews very thorough and insightful I just subscribed to your channel. I've been looking at 911 and 718. After seeing your review I would lean more toward 718 at this point. Power and balance seem to be spot on. While I love 911 they have become so expensive and are you really getting more performance for your money than 718 I don't think so unless you getting 911 GTS or Turbo S, GT3 RS, GT2 RS those last three are super cars. Where as the average person can afford 718 and can extract more of its potential whether it be on back road or race track.
Thanks for following!
Great review thanks
thanks for watching !
+aistis72 🙏
Autogefühl )
i live in Canada...we sometimes have pretty bad winters ... can the boxster 2018 be a car for all year?
hmmm I dont think so ;)
Is it 20km/hr or 20miles/hr? I don't know which one they use in Europe.
km/h
You should test a BMW 240i and compare with a base cayman . Nice review Thanks
+Tristanne 1966 check our M2 review!
De Montréal Canada : superbe travail, comme d'habitude ! Poursuivez ainsi et merci !
merci beaucoup!
Good review. One question: How would you compare the GTS to the M2?

Great review as always! On a side note, how do you like the e-strap on your Alpina? I was debating picking one up.
thanks pal!
you mean the rubber strap ?
LOL! Maybe its a standard one then. I was hard to see in the video but I thought i saw one of these: alpinawatches.com/e-strap . I was debating picking one up for my startimer but have no feedback into anyone who has the e strap.
ah, now I see. No experience with that. And you know that I do prefer their textile/metal/rubber wristlets as I am not a leather fan :)
