I like this little box a lot. $39 and free shipping from Walmart right now. I got two of them. Once I side loaded Prime Video I was set. So long Fire TV. Back to using my external HDD again for library content.
A someone i know just bought this from Wal-Mart also for the same price and free shipping too. He's excited. I got the older international version for the family. I have the nvidia shield.
I actually really value the simplicity of the chromecast. The real beauty of it is that I don't have to learn a new interface and it already works with voice control. Also, my original model (from 2013!) is still fully functional in 2019. I'm less confident that something like this will age as gracefully.
For simple casting use chromecast does it well, but the mi box does offer more like a smart TV. But so far I'm getting a lot of mixed reviews so I'm hesitant about getting one.
Thanks a lot for the vid! Great and informative content. You just mentioned what I was thinking of - take me box instead of a laptop when traveling to boost the hotel’s tv ;). I even searched the dedicated vid for this in UA-cam while was watching this video, but then you started speaking about mi box during travel and I’ve got all the info I needed :). Thanks!
I got a Shield tv last year, I use it every day for UA-cam and Netflix, it also has Amazon Prime as well. Its only around £170 and if you consider all that it can do it's worth the money, especially when it comes to emulators
Hey Joshua! Simply wanted to ask if you've tried connecting the Mi box to the Marshall speaker via its audio cable. How does it sound? Seems like no one pays attention to sound. Thanks for a great video ;) - Anastasios
Hi Joshua, I'm having problem to mirror my Huawei P Smart 2019 phone to Xiaomi Mi Box S. Do you have any idea? Because when I try to connect via Wireless Projector, I cannot see Mi Box S...
Joshua Awesome review and nice to see you show up in my feed.Hope all is well and what a great idea for a gift as well Thanks so much for sharing Hope you have a Wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year's Deb 😉👌👍
I have two Mi Box's which I bought two years ago and both are still going strong today. Best investment ever since I recouped my cable company lease fees already and now I'm saving money. It's a great little box for online streaming. One disadvantage though is there is no ethernet port. I had to buy a USB 3.0 ethernet adapter for each box because I don't trust wifi connections bringing in smooth video. I wouldn't even trust it if I bought the shield so that's just me, not the Mi Box wifi.
Nice review, I am getting this device for my dumb TV. A bit sad it does not have more cpu power and I would have liked a micro-SD slot behind a cover on the unit so you could expand your storage permanently for apps, games etc. That would also have made the USB slot free to use for other things. The more modern apps and games eat up a lot of storage space.
I connected an USB hub to this. And then I connected to the hub a keyboard (I use a RF one). I recommend to use external hard drive, but I don't use it myself though. I created on my PC a home network, that shared with my tv box.

I just bought my dad Roku with remote, installed only 1 UA-cam app, showed him how to use it maybe 20+ times, he still can't figure it out how to launch the app and scroll down to playlist I created for him
I'm a Pixel 3 XL user so I am an Android guy but I hate Chromecast... They're junk. I don't want to use my phone for everything... I think Roku and AppleTV have the right idea. Sounds like Android TV is working on a similar concept. I hope it continues to grow!
Mi Box S: It recently upgraded from Android 8.1 to Android 9.0 & lost a lot of features the main one being a functioning $70 Google Chromecast Ultra that came pre-installed. Support on the phone & by email is dismal at best.

No, the most important part that I use for my son, the pre-installed Chromecast Ultra does not. I have been in contact with Xiaomi tech support for over a month only to get false promises. About to return 2 units back to Walmart. If something goes wrong, Xiaomi is very little help.
Thanks for the review. I have a question. I live in Japan and I often find devices default to Japanese. I see you can set the language to English, but I'd also like for my wife to be able to use it in Japanese. How easy is it to switch back and forth? I'm guessing the chromecast will be easy because we can do it from our phones. What about the rest?
