A major problem with Mi Box S is that you can not shut it off. This is a major concern for those who connect an External Hard Drive to view movies since the HD continues to spin as the Mi Box is always on and supplying power. Earlier versions could in fact Shut Off, but the 'S' model does not.

It recently upgraded from Android 8.1 to Android 9.0 & lost a lot of features the main one being a functioning Google Chromecast Ultra that came pre-installed. Support on the phone & by email is dismal at best.

Chrome browser on Mi Box s has no back button which is a real big nuisance. Firefox or Opera have back buttons and work much better. I have all three browsers on mine. Use your desktop or PC search for the apk you want, download them and move them to a flash drive. Plug the flash in to your Mi Box and install them through whatever file manager you use. Super easy.
You can consider getting the Mi BoX S since it has a built in Chrome cast. Xiaomi also has just announced a new tv stick just today Mi TV Stick is a portable streaming device that turns your TV into a smart TV. Mi TVStick comes with a Chromecast built-in. With a Bluetooth remote controller.
Does it log onto windows networks so I can watch my own library. Having trouble with many of these boxes not capable of networking very well. Cant handle SMB properly I suspect.

I've got the previous Mi Box (US version) and after the DISASTER that Xiaomi did with the firmware upgrades (basically broke it for a whole year, and it's still broken in many ways) I will never buy an Android TV box from Xiaomi again. Just buy the Nvidia Shield.
Same thing happened to me. After upgrading to android 9 Now when I pair my bluetooth headset netflix and UA-cam doesn't load. I sent them an email and they said reset your box and if this didn't fix the issue contact your local distributor. They dont want to admit that there is something wrong with the latest software release
Netflix is only 1080p not 4k and this does not have amazon prime video onit. No dolby atmos or no dolby vision. The 4k video play through usb struggles and pauses. This is only good for people who dont have smart tvs or low end smart tvs. If you have vert good 4k smart tv theres no need for this box your tv will perform much better than this box
Hi we just bought Mi Box S. We tried it on 5 different TV such as Akai, Heir, Pensonic and Coby and still not working. Do you think thus modem requires a high standard televesion?

For home theater output, there is no dolby atmos, no 7.1, no dts-MA. In 2019 model, I've no idea on the older models.

? you can shut it off easily, with shut down button on remote. And you can use cheap SSD these days, they are faster and use much less energy.

Yes, you can use it with bt headphones. You can't conect standart antena chanels but you can use live tv chanel streaming via IPTV over internet 😉

That should work. I even just use my old Dell computer monitor and just use an adapter for HDMI it still works.

Yes you can. You just need to set the correct display resolution once you switch the Mi Box S to another TV.
