Thx for this demo! Seeing someone test it by playing some VH is exactly what I was looking for, rather than some grindcore chugging. I bought this little pedal and I love it! Having a great time practising Eddie, Vito and Randy style playing. 😀👍.
The demo I was looking for! Sounds awesome. Perfect for the way I'm going to play this time. In fact, next week come the delivery and I'll take one of them.
I agree. Also, one thing to note. I didn't EQ or change the settings on the tube preamp at all. I just plugged in and went. The Mooer took some time to carefully try to get JUST enough mids, not too much highs, just enough bass. The digital stuff took more finese, the tube preamp just worked straight away.
First of all, AWESOME playing as always! Wish I had your chops! Pedal sounded very good, but guess depends on how you pair it up with the other gear? For someone like myself, you brought up a great point, decent amp and lots of pedals, or invest in a really good amp for the same amount! I'm still trying to figure that one out! In my mind, I think amp as I would like to keep things simple, but always waiver when I see pedal demos! : )
I would be on the fence too, but I already have a nice JSX head, so I'm out of space. I obviously wouldn't buy 10 of these, but if you wanted one or two specific sounds it would be a great option.
Hey man cool videos and all else I have some VERY burning questions on all things knaggs kenai or knaggs SCC , steckel models and basically any knaggs that is made to be a les paul ish guitar especially with no weight relief and binding on body plus fretboard! : ^** Thanks in advance for any replies ** : I've been wanting a les paul killer as the next best thing , no 6k-12k gibson les paul custom shop R8,R9,R0 has spoken to me across 4 long and macquades great guitar but they're 100% pure vintage reproductions , if the Body neck and frets feel OK on one R9 or R0 then the finish isn't what I want too old school and classic looking I want something with a modern edge to it but nothing like a PRS still very much the core les paul sound a full thickness mahog body no weight relief 59 neck shape and a different burst besides the very common and decades old cherry burst or faded cherry, slight tobacco; I could settle for a solid gold top but again either the frets feel too tiny and vintagey or the frets are OK but the pickups are too vintagey and tiny/ weak sounding. ^ You can probably see where this is going either a Gibson custom shop or knaggs steckel custom order will probably be the way to go for me BUT knaggs custom would still get my vote most likely because gibsons custom shops even the 12k Murphy I picked up for fun didn't give me this feeling of a super expensive guitar made under a microscope feeling. Knaggs seem consistent 99% of the time their QC and overall build pricess seems way more customer centered than gibsons custom shop in comparison. The only problem being no try before you buy with knaggs for us ontarians here, only 2 dealers in all of Canada and I think 1 is in BC other is in Quebec or thereabouts. ^ Seems worth it overall to take a shot in the dark with knaggs as much as the resale sucks, if it's killer and blows any of the 100 or so les Paul's I've tried out of the water then I don't think I'd want to sell it down thebroad for something else new and Shiney for 5.5k CAD when the knaggs CS steckel would cost around 8k. If I was a flipper those numbers really suck ass to see, but because I'm looking for a guitar w exactly what I want then I don't think I will even think of selling / trading it. ^ Anyway , I'll leave it there for now maybe you were like me tried dozens or a hundred les Paul's and even if you found 1-5 good ones the style , finish frets or something wasn't right in your gut with it that warranted gibsons CS R9 7k used to 8.5-10k new price tags. ^ Whenever you get a chance I'd be interested tonhear your thoughts. If I had to think of a few players who use this kind of modern les paul approach and why they swapped to knaggs it would easily be eric steckel himself doug Rappaport and Steve stevens - guy has les Paul's that were custom build for him like that steckel but on a Gibson gold top w dark bark but yet what he received from knaggs has made him put down the majority of his Les Paul's for his Knaggs stevens SCC meaning he liked it atleast as much if not more than his dozens of gibsons that he's had for decades. I'd say that's an impressive feat for Joe knaggs and him team. Cheers from Niagara on the lake Ontario and have a good weekend Best, - Adam 🙏🤟
Congrats on the video, great! Does this pedal get too hot? I ask because I bought one recently and I notice that the temperature rises a lot, getting very hot.
What's interesting is thru crap laptop speakers, the DI + cab sim sounds better/tighter. Although not the best way to listen, but I'll bet plenty do listen that way. You need to make more videos Michael. Your tones are outstanding every time.
I think I liked the first run through a little better....(seemed a little dryer?)....I would’ve liked to hear you demo the Gold UK (Marshall 900) one....but this was killer regardless....would you agree that this would be a cool “quick rig” for a gig.....this pedal and a few more to go direct ....?
This is really cool! Is this the same as the MXR EVH 5150 OD, that you made a video for a while back?? Can this be used in front of a single channel clean amp (FENDER DRRI) like the 5150?
Not really the same. The Mooer stuff is a full amp sim. It should be plugged DI into a mixer, or directly into a power amp, or FX return. The MXR is designed to go into a clean amp.
Good video. Other review this other guy did. Turned gain all the way up and the whole time did nothing but gallop pick the lowe e for thrash metal. Thay drives me nuts. Good video
For what it is not bad if you ask me. Great playing. Just found you. That knaggs is kilmer too.. I think the algorithm just got lucky and found the song with the tube preamp, not because of it.
I could think that by slightly taming those fizzy highs and pushing a bit the lower mids with a parametric EQ, you can get even closer to the sound of the tube preamp. But then, again you lose a bit of the main advantage of the device: Price and versatility combined with intuitive ease of use.
Hey Michael, sorry to bug you with this but I had a question on another video regarding how you used the Intelliverb and TGP3 / VHT combo to get that chorus sound on Plush. Is there a trick to making that chorus sound so present along side all that gain? When I run the chorus on my Intelliverb the gain just drowns it out (it's in the effects loop of an AC30), the chorus on mine is barely heard while yours sounds like all kinds of psychadelic goodness. Thanks for any help in advance I'm really banging my head against the wall trying to get what you had going.
Dumb question but can someone answer me. Does the preamp come with a power supply because some websites say it doesnt and some just dont say anything at all
To answer your question, imo, 1 good amp > infinite pedals and sims. A good tube amp is an instrument. All the sims are kind of like just one note of an amp. They never capture the whole range of a tube, just one state.
One of the best reverb sounds I've heard...period...came from an empty garage. is.gd/mBFmfI Also, have you tried the Mooer Fifty-Fifty with it's own cab sim bypassed and a third party IR for cab sim?
5 years later and this is still a kick ass demo. The Engl pedal smokes too.
Both sounded amazing!! I couldn't tell the difference between cab sims and the real cab. I'm blown away!!
Okay wasn't expecting much but pretty damn good. Your playing is excellent as always, nice guitar.
Best sound so Far, better than the others demos I saw, you're a beast 👏
Pretty impressive little box ! Glad you're back Michael, your playing is perfect !
Thx for this demo! Seeing someone test it by playing some VH is exactly what I was looking for, rather than some grindcore chugging. I bought this little pedal and I love it! Having a great time practising Eddie, Vito and Randy style playing. 😀👍.
Wow! It's amazing the gear that's available nowadays! Great gear at Great Prices!
Wow great demo! That pedal sounds really great from here. I get the sense that it is less compressed than some of the tube preamps
Impressed with the quality! incredible!
Knaggs are really sweet!
Wow! Pretty impressive! And the Moorer box was cool too!
The demo I was looking for! Sounds awesome. Perfect for the way I'm going to play this time. In fact, next week come the delivery and I'll take one of them.
The high end tube preamp actually sounds more like the Mooer using its cab sim than the Mooer with the Fryette.
I agree. Also, one thing to note. I didn't EQ or change the settings on the tube preamp at all. I just plugged in and went. The Mooer took some time to carefully try to get JUST enough mids, not too much highs, just enough bass. The digital stuff took more finese, the tube preamp just worked straight away.
Michael Nielsen Pretty cool though for $100. They have that new cherry bomb pedal poweramp I'd like to try with the 002 900 Marshall type pedal.
Michael Nielsen what pickups???
Not sure. They're the stock PU
Michael Nielsen thanks!
I love the fact that these have 2 channels - I have the Cali MK3, Fifty Fifty and FriedMien and I love the Friedman the most :D
Gotta have this! Thanks for a great review :-)
I find these to be a great value.
Sounds killer Michael!
"say, if you had ten of these..." Then we'd have the Mooer Preamp Live ahahhahah
Incredible
Really great playing !

I have one on order. Would love to to hear it paired with the mooer radio cab sim.

Great playing!
Fu*king AWESOME michael!!!
Is the picture of the pedal the settings you used for the demo?
yep.
These Mooer devices are sick!!! Loved this demo. Would really like to hear it, dead clean with no reverb etc...
wow that is just spot on van halen
Congrats on the video, great! Does this pedal get too hot? I ask because I bought one recently and I notice that the temperature rises a lot, getting very hot.
Damn that thing sounds awesome and man, great riffin... Cool Music!
Nice chops!!!!!
wow! Sounds way better than I expected! I had heard good things about these but hadn't really listened to them yet. nice demo!
Nice Michael
In the A/B/C test, I actually like the Mooer Cab Sim better. To me, it just seems smoother. The B & C sounds seem "fizzier".
same for me
Not too shabby
What's interesting is thru crap laptop speakers, the DI + cab sim sounds better/tighter. Although not the best way to listen, but I'll bet plenty do listen that way.

does the Knaggs have the stock pick ups in it? thanks.
Yes, it certainly does. SD SH-1s.
😆COOL DEMO, THANX BRO😆
Good video. Other review this other guy did. Turned gain all the way up and the whole time did nothing but gallop pick the lowe e for thrash metal. Thay drives me nuts. Good video
Atomic punk.... what a song...
What song is it? p.s. great demo as always!
On Fire Van Halen
Maxim Slock thank you!
For what it is not bad if you ask me. Great playing. Just found you. That knaggs is kilmer too..
I think the algorithm just got lucky and found the song with the tube preamp, not because of it.
Очень круто играете.
Great Demo. What kind of speaker it's been used, vintage 30, Greenback or t75? thanx
dario mollo V30 👍
Thanks for reminding me how awesome Van Halen is (was)!

But then, again you lose a bit of the main advantage of the device: Price and versatility combined with intuitive ease of use.
Can I use this pedal in live applications directly in the mixer without DI box?
Florin Surtea Yup

Does it have a Presence control????? The real cab stuff sounded better than the cab sim.
Are you from Oklahoma City?
Nevermind. The OKC farm team is the Dodgers and I didn't realize LA also used the hat with the "D"
Hello, which of these Mooer Preamp simulates the Bogner Atma amplifier? Thank you!
ivo jorge so far, none. I’m hoping for a Bogner preamp as well but so far, no good.
Thanks!
ivo jorge you can try AMT B1 though, it is a pedal version of the Sharp channel on the Triple Giant, I have one and it kicks major ass!
Hello, okay, HighVoltageCovers, thanks for the suggestion. I will try. Thank you!
Why is the pedal light not flashing during cab simulation? It should be flashing to use this pedal function.
I think it's just a photograph of the setting. I probably didn't video the pedal since I wasn't changing anything on it.
Thanks!!! Awesome video. Congrats!!!
When you hear them isolated they are a little harsh.
Dumb question but can someone answer me. Does the preamp come with a power supply because some websites say it doesnt and some just dont say anything at all
Ey Michael, you should check out kingsley amplification stuff to.. ie the maiden .. nice vid.
Im gonna buy this gat, so, hopefully some of your finger juice will rub off on me! lol
To answer your question, imo, 1 good amp > infinite pedals and sims. A good tube amp is an instrument. All the sims are kind of like just one note of an amp. They never capture the whole range of a tube, just one state.
To my ear, digytal sound have very weak attack. Tubes sounds much stronger :)
Like your playing... keep on rocking ! Peace !

Also, have you tried the Mooer Fifty-Fifty with it's own cab sim bypassed and a third party IR for cab sim?
now compare a real tube preamp with mooer
There was a tube pre compared in the vid towards the end. The Mooer sounded better - on my MacBook. lol
