The Mooer Micro Preamps are tiny but powerful recreations of classic and boutique amps. They offer two channels each - clean and drive - in a two-channel configuration, with or without cabinet simulation, for direct or power amp/cab use.
For this video I have chosen to run the Micro Preamps directly to my Mbox 3 Pro soundcard to show off all of their features. You could, if you wished, run them without the Cab Sim engaged to the effects return of your guitar amplifier and use the footswitch as a channel selector (can also be used as standard ON/OFF switch). Additionally, you could use them with your DAW's IR loader or something like the Two Notes devices on your pedalboard or in your rack. They have all sorts of cool applications.
Do the Micro Preamps sound good? I think they sound great. As an inexpensive alternative to a real amp they compete very strongly indeed.
"MOOER micro preamps are sonically accurate digital recreations of the preamp sections of popular tube amplifiers. We have developed these by directly analyzing real tube amplifiers using a brand new technology to capture their sound, dynamics and response. Each Micro Preamp comes complete with dual channels, integrated speaker cabinet simulation and dual operating modes to suit the needs of all users."

Just got me the Friedman 012 and I'm gobsmacked how good it sounds through a GFI Cabzeus into a JBL monitor. I did an A/B with my HELIX and I'm impressed, bloody impressed.

estoy muy feliz con mi Diezel hagen 001
Mooer also have a little pedal the same size that acts as a 30W power amp called the 'Baby Bomb'. It has a standard jack input and a speaker cable output for your cabinet and runs off a 24v, 2A supply. I guess the idea is that you put your favorite one of these pre-amps in font of it and eliminate the need for a traditional amp head.

Dear Mooer, bring these pedals together as a recording preamp rack and rule the home recording world.
Good call on this. I agree, that would be very killer.
I hope...a single rack (o desktop module) with all models in a single unit...in the future...

Thanks man. Its really the best review of this “machines”.
These sound great! Solved my 'can't turn up my amp loud enough to record without pissing off my neighbours' issue.
They all sound so good I struggle picking which one
I've bought four and now I'm still looking at three more of them haha, not to mention they release ten additional preamp models
Thank you, and a few mini classic overdrives and distortions and these and I am good!!
I imagine myself playing some U2 stuff with that preamp. The Day Tripper is amazing!
The 008 WOOOW!! What a sound!!
Fantastic pedals. Mooer is going to excellent level of high quality
Excellent recap of these tiny boxes... I just got the radar and was sooooo impressed that I really wanted to get one of their pre amps. Going to start with the Vox... then probably the Black Knight! 😎
Are you still using the radar + ...? Happy with the direct sound?
I got the 001 gas station and love it
First of all. The fact you busted rocket skates out on 001 sold me
What a nice approach of demoing you have! Thanks a lot!
Two years later and your review is still the best
So what about in a live settings? Could this take a small amp and shape it's sound? I'm thinking this could be a always on pedal that acts as a secret weapon.
Brill round-up video of these fantastic pedals, sir. Great job!
I keep coming back to this. I'm wanting to get rid of my tube amp and just go direct into audio interface (or powered speakers/PA) and I'm torn between getting a Line 6 HX Stomp OR a Mooer 008 + Zoom MS 70CDR. In terms of an amp, I only really want a nice warm clean tone and a bit of overdrive, not millions of different amps, and the Mooer 008 actually sounds better here than the HX Stomp does on most of the demos. Any thoughts?
Hmm. Trying to figure out which one would suit my Di tone (ie: Fuzz>Comp>Mods (Flanger & Phaser)>Drives>Muff>Boost>Mooer Micro>Delay>Reverb>IR>PA) which is based around my Laney and Fender Bassbreaker (Brit-voiced) amps, Also use a Tweed Junior instead of the Laney Cub, sometimes. Tonally, I am comfortable somewhere around Townsend, Gilmour, Page, May etc.
The Day Tripper surprised me. It's Voxy, ofc, but seems quite versatile. I'm used to EL84s so maybe it would do, although I like the 010 Two Notes-based version as well.
Gezus! When you played the initial guitar signal into the sound card and then hit the pedal.... I was shocked.Maybe I need to get out more.
Thanks a lot for that test. I wish however you had tested them all with the same guitar, so I would maybe have been able to make the difference between them, many sounds to close .. Anyway good job !
God damn, too many to choose from. They all sound good. Is that riff at 4:05 from Queen''s "Tie Your Mother Down"?
ThaT'S IT!!! i'M getting all of them!! I know which Bar gig/concert shows/studio recording projects I can use them! Thank You !! Great Demo!!!
indeed great for home recording. But are these preamps good for a live setup?
Got 010 yesterday , fantastic sound and price .
Getting the 003,009 Catalina MKII and the VOX preamp plus the Radar Ofcourse.
Pretty cool video. I personally like the gas station, the fifty fifty, and the u.k gold the most.
15:14 .... "Sir, could you please leave the store now"......
I expect some stores to have a trapdoor built-in for 'smoke on the...' & 'Stairway to Heaven' offenders which opens under the guitar stool, out they go.
When I first started playing guitars in mid 1970s & going into Sydney CBD to cruise Landis Music & Nicholsons (yes I am that old), there were signs up at the pedal demo corner saying "You are welcome to demo these pedals SO LONG as you DO NOT play "Stairway To Heaven" ,"Smoke On The Water" and "Sunshine Of Your Love"". Given 'Stairway' & 'Smoke' had only been released a few years earlier to that, they must've been real earworms...
Don't worry about it Ozzy - I first picked up a guitar in 1971, I got a 'Union Brand' nylon string guitar for Xmas '71 and I was hooked. I saw Creedence Clearwater Revival in '72 (it is like Rockwiz eh?) and this was my introduction to the world of 'Rock'. I am still playing and I love music more than is reasonable (!) I don't care if people play those songs, I would not kick em out haha
15:19.."I just have to...."
he just have too
The 005 ( 5050 )) is a PEAVEY 5150. To bad you didn't review the 006, wich is the Fender Blues Tweed.. EDIT.. just saw the links above. BTW.. I'm a big Mooer fan.. but didn't knew they had cab simulation too. Good to know. These can be life savers, if your regular amp would give up in a live situation.. you can plug directly to the PA system. Thanks for the nice review !
Excellent overview, Brett -- as usual. Thanks!
which do you prefer more on modern metal tones? 001,005,008,009?
001 or 005
Brett what a Excellant review that was!! Keep up the good work!!
I just got one of these pedals and will be getting it next week. I'm hoping it works well in my closed off effects loop with my other pedals I already have on my Blackstar amp. I picked up the 012 US Gold Freidmein.
How do these compare to the joyo analog amp sim pedals in your opinion?
I use those already, but the added flexibility of 2 channels, and the smaller size of the Mooers is appealing.
Spencer Morgan don’t get me wrong, the Joyo amp sims are cool and very usable. BUT, these moorer micro pre’s are on a different level. I have the Cali mk3 and the UK Gold and I can’t speak highly enough about them. They sound so good going through a power amp and pretty solid straight into pro tools.
Adam Bickers is the Cali a triple rectifier -OR- mark 2c/markIII/MarkIV CLONE?
@@OTTOAUDIO It's a Mk III.
@@waterwoodguitars6871 Good to know, the Joyos are ok, especially into a decent IR, but I've never been satisfied with my AC Tone & Cali Sound.
Excellent vid.. and so thorough!
I've now narrowed it down to 3..
Need something for a clean base, slamming it with dirt and fx for 80s covers, direct to PA. Now.. do I go daytripper, cali, or black night? 🤔
Only one guitar in band, no keys.
wow the 001!
Really dig #3 and #9....they did a good job with the engl e650, which is kind of an oddball one.
Which 1 is best for straight metal, brutal force? Or 2 or 3 together?
Hi Burgs,
which one is more “mid focused” when used with the built-in cab sim in your opinion?
As a point of reference, I got the 001 Gas Station and I like it with the mids cranked, bass almost at 0 and the treble pot at “4” (less than half).
Which one of these provides more mids at conservative settings?
Thanks a lot,
Paul
Paul I believe it's the 009 since its the only that really wow
Who do these pedals compete soundwise with the new Boss IR-2 ? Any suggestions ? Thx
Power Zone is a beast!
The best for me.
Basically i have my main drive tone and recently got a cab IR pedal and wondering if one of these preamp pedals would help the overall tone and feel before the Ir and after my drives . Been testing what i have so far in audio interface, mp3 line ins and effect loop return sockets xD
What if you wanted to send it tbrough the front of an old marshall head that has no return loop?in other words, what If i wanted to have it in a pedal chain going into the front of amp seeing as I use my marshall with the preamp set low for clean so that its a platform for pedals???
These sound phenomenal. Which to buy?!
And also for clean sound. thank you
Hello Brett. I love your demos, great playing. I've got one question, between these Moeer preamps and the AMT ones which option do you find best based on sound quality, character and feel? I'm looking for something along the lines of a Diezel sound and both Mooer and AMT have their respective emulations; which one would you choose and why?
Diezel vh4-2 pedal
@@LeviBulger But if you're searching for an all in one solution (incl. a decent cabsim)? I don't want any latency, not even from an IR-loader inside the DAW. The best sound I got was with the RedTone amp from Vadim Taranov. But it eats so much resources away. This Diezel preamp really sounds great for direct recording.
I am seriously impressed! I would love to have the ability to step on the pedal and change channels.
@@taxidermy8800 That turns them on and off. It doesn't change it from one tl the next in one stomp.
U can do that! What I dislike a little is that they do not engage when kicking, but after you get off the button. I use them in the loop. That way it doesn't suck that much, but it is something to improve. Got the 005 and it is great!
That Marshall is a beast!!
Day Tripper all the way, love that pedal.
How do eliminate the noise that these things generate
Deftones riffs, nice!
Did u put noise gate on your chain? Does this micro preamp don't produce unnecessary noise when you add more gain on dirt channel?
Nice job Burgs! These pedals are great. and soooo small.
I'm very happy for you to have the wisdom to understand which pedal is named after which amp, but I don't, so be so kind as to let n00bs like me know which amp is emulated, at least if you consider people like me worthy to know that anyway.
01 is a Diezel Hagen and 05 is an EVH 5150 III
how would these sound if you used the Day Tripper as a clean sound, and then run the others into it for gain sounds?
Jesse Yasaitis jajajajaja... I was wondering the exact same thing.
Hi Brett, and thanks for a great demo! I just discovered these as I am looking for an alternative to my combo amp at times when floor space is very limited at our gigs. So I have two questions that I was wondering if you (or someone else) could help we with:
Firstly, I've now seen at least two demos where the output volume of the clean channel(s) seems to be very low for some reason. And I've also seen comments about this, quite a few. Now, I know you can of course crank up the volume on the clean setting and it will be saved but at least one person commenting said he had to return the unit because the volumes were simply not enough. Since I play more clean than distorted this would be a problem for me. What are your comments on this?
Secondly, if I compare my chain today that includes my combo amp, the speaker of course comes as the very last part of that chain. But if I use these instead of my amp and I use the speaker simulation, this would come before my volume loop effects (delay + verb). Could this be an issue at all would you say? In other words, should I also aim for a speaker simulation at the very end such as the Mooer Radar or do they sound just fine also with the effects after the built-in speaker sim? Cheers.
for your 2nd problem, I was wondering the same thing, and (If floor space is limited, Could U put the amp-modeling preamp at the end of your pedal chain?? and then just use a little transparent Dr Scientist "boost-bot" pre-amp (which is small enough to fit anywhere), at the beginning of your chain?..
I've just got the 005 today, and for some reason it's now working properly off my T-Rex power supply, but is working off a 9V adapter. It's turning on (when plugged into my T-Rex power supply) but making a weird clicking sort of sound and not actually doing the function it should be doing. Anyone else having this
Brad you’re not getting enough power to it. It needs 300ma from memory. I had the same issue
Hi Brett Sounds really good. Just need to know if I can plug this into my hardware DAW i.e. a Tascam 8 track recorder ( quarter inch or XLR capable ) with good results. That is to say not using computer software / sound cards and the like. To be used for recording as opposed to live use.
Thanks for the excellent demo.
it absolutely can, works the exact same
@@EpicStuffMan1000 Thank you. Much obliged.. Went out and got me a few along with the Mooer Radar.
DANG. Those little ladies sound great.
Also Brett, the timestamp for the UK Gold is listed wrong, it is at 12:07 not 10:07. :p
Thank you. On it.
Cheers mate! Useful comparison.
Dude! By far the best demonstration of this pedals for the uninformed buyer who wants to be informed haha. Greetings from Chile! And keep up the good work man!🤘🏻
Burgs , if you could only pick one as a backup solution for a gig, which would you pick ?
From this vid , I'm leaning toward the Cali Mk3
Yep, that's the one. :)
Are you using a Noise Gate anywhere in the signal chain? These seem pretty quiet, even in the high-gain settings. I'm not hearing any noise "in-between" the notes.
He's plugged straight into an interface. Far less noise that night if he were to have these into an amp.
Can these be used as a straight up pedal into an amp input? Ie if my amp doesn't have an effect loop?
Hello, which of these Mooer Preamp simulates the Bogner Atma amplifier? Thank you!
i had a problem with switch channel red to blue of 003 power zone, the volume's up approx. 1 second and goes to normal again. This happen to anybody else ?
Hey! sir Could you tell me which one is good for Djent between 001 or 005??
I think 001 has the heavier sound
005 is clearer, djent doesn't need to much gain. I think it would be a killer combo with a Horizon Devices overdrive.
A Ric 330 or 360 should've been used with the Day Tripper . . . just to really hear if it could do a Vox in all its chimey goodness. Thanks for posting Mike.
Hey Burgs, any issues with weak signal? I experienced that when I bought the 004 Day Tripper.
None to speak of, David. The Day Tripper is pretty low gain, though. Medium gain at best on the Drive channel.
Hey Burgs! Which do you think would be the best preamp for running clean and pedals into it? Day tripper?
Hi, I know it’s a while ago but do you remember if the added distortion and modulation pedals went before or after the daytripper? Cheers
have the same question, seems to me all pedals were before the preamps
Where can I find a list of the amps each are modeled after??? Some are easy to guess but others aren’t so much
i have day tripper 004 based on vox, its amazing dude!!!
Es todo un maestro de las cuerdas y esos aparatitos suenan increible
Cool video,Thanks! Does 002 has enough gain for Marshallesque shredding?
Great demonstration, thank you very much !
Thanks for the great review
Hello Brett! I just bought a Torpedo Cab. Can I use these Mooer Micro Preamps with it?
There is only one single problem with these preamp-pedals: you cant change "channels" with the foot to use it as a full amp live. for home, it´s fine. But if you want to send it to FOH, you need two of them, and use an A/B-Switch.
Okay, for 89€, you could easily buy 2 or 4 of them :D
Exactly. Just buy one for your clean and one for your distortion. Then you can even do the Fender one for clean/Mashall for dist. whatever you want.
There is a mode where you can use the footswitch to toggle between the clean and dirty channel 👌
Well… I guess the trick is the sound card (and maybe its quality). Me, I’ve tried all the possible ways with a Tele FMT connected to 002 and the Mooer radar but sound is always out of control and so far from the one here in this demo. Apart that from radar headphones output tone is surprisingly horrible but even with monitors you should use pro-quality ones.
So do these vary in sound ,say in genre? Are they different in gain? Why so many models???
how do i put mod pedals in fx loop? is it possible with these?
Very good! Thanks👍
Your playing is off the scale
Daft question, the answer to this is probably obvious, but if you wanted could you NOT use the cab simulations and clean settings on these pedals, and just use them as regular distortion pedals through your amp?
15:14 ahhh~ that riff 💌
awesome little bastards ! but how do they sound directly into a clean channel amp ??
great video .... but got just one question... which one of these recreates MARSHALL sound?? I'll appreciate someone reply me ... t-you =)
elmero mero ..the 002
thank you a lot .. =)
Congratulations. Which mooer preamp pedal do you recommend to play Iron Maiden?
The 005 brown sound 3 sounds awesome
Could you leave your amp on its gain channel and use this as your clean channel? For example with the Jim Root Terror it doesn't have a 2nd channel just your high gain channel so I wonder if you could use this to create a clean channel for the amp
Technically, yes, but if it works anything like the Micro Dark, then all the controls no longer apply themselves as soon as you plug the Preamp pedal into the FX Return. It would essentially turn your Jim Root Terror into only a fancy looking power amp and all of your tone would come from the pedal.
Can they take other pedals before or after them?
Hey great video here. (Like always)003 power zone is amazing!Would you choose 018 Custom 100 for Lukather lead sounds?Cheers
003…uooooooh!!!!
MOOER preamp or AMT preamp?
I`d say if you don`t need separate EQ for both channels, then AMT
How much miliamps are the power draw?
Hey Brett, how responsive are these to the tone and volume pots on the guitar?
