@@shaquilhoskins3078 Steph is a shooter. Just an overrated one. More than half of his shots are threes, so he's definitely a shooter. Steph isn't a scorer, as in shot-creator. His shot mechanics are too clunky, and he shoots from a too low elevation, for him to reliably get his shot off versus decent on-ball defense. He requires picks or a series of picks and offensive movement to get his shot off. The Warriors has probably the most elaborate offensive scheme ever, intended to get Steph open for a shot. That's with Klay assigned on the point guard on defense, and drawing defense on the offense. And Dray acting as the playcaller, and at times setting screens.
Steph is a good driver of the basketball, but rarely does drive. In clutch time Steph has never driven to the basket, but always settled for the three. And that three has never fallen in. The olympic final is the only clutch moment Steph has in his career. More than 5 years past his prime. Steph is a regular season shooter. And some sort of bad scoring option in the playoffs.

There are players who scored 30ppg but 10ppg came from the free throw. Like James harden, in those 3 seasons he avg 30+ppg he was also leading the league in free throws. But then the league changed on how they were calling those ticky tack fouls, Harden hasn't avg even 25ppg since. Then you have Curry who was classified as just a pure shooter but he developed in to a more rounded scorer later on. With Melo, he already had essentially the "perfect" offensive game from the moment he stepped on the NBA floor. Same with a T-Mac, VC, PG, KD

Because the game strategy around him isn’t to get Steph an isolation, one on one, that’s last resort. For scorers that’s first resort is get them on an island with their defender. Steph is such a great shooter that the strategy for him is to get him coming off of screens to get him as open as possible, you don’t want him to have to create in isolation. He’s a shooter first who can also score but he had to work on his iso game, he wasn’t as natural at that as he was just pure shooting even tho you couldn’t tell now.

Then it becomes curved as it gets to the top of the 3pt arc. The point where it goes from a straight to a curved line is called "the break". Scoring from 3 "above the break" , ie on the curved section, is more difficult because it is farther from the basket by a foot and a half. Greatest scorers by way of scoring:
Paint/Rim: Shaq (most dominant inside scorer)
Mid-range: KD (most accurate and un-guardable mid-range scorer due to his height, handles, and versatility)
3point: Curry (Greatest range, greatest accuracy, on or off balance, of the catch or off the dribble, top 5 handles enables to create distance for shot)
    FT Merchant: Embiid (1st all-time FTM/game reg. & 5th playoffs) - [Wilt 1st in FTA/game reg. & Shaq 1st in FTA/game playoffs... but both shot ~50%]
Make your pick. Versatility wise, it's likely KD because he has the size and skill to score from anywhere and he does it better than anyone. But dominance is Shaq and lethality is Curry.
    HM: (not ordered)
Paint/Rim: Kareem (volume & efficiency), Lebron (volume & efficiency), Wilt (Sheer Volume)
Mid-range: MJ, Kobe, Carmelo, Dirk, CP3, Bird
3point: Klay, Dame, Ray Allen, Reggie
    FT Merchant: Harden
Volume: Wilt, Harden, MJ, AI, Lebron, Kareem, T Mac, Kobe, Doncic, Embiid, Shaq, Curry, George Gervin, Westbrook (All have 2+ Scoring titles except Lebron & Doncic who have 1 each)
    Non-category HM:
    Kyrie (Handles, Shooting, Finishing)
Kawhi Leonard (not flashy but but extremely efficient with volume during playoffs, 51-40-84 Playoff Average)
    Omissions?
Their debate came down to perception and narrative around a player more than anything...
They favor the Jab step and 1 dribble pull-up scorers like Melo, Kobe, MJ, and KD however this clearly favors taller players because shorter players can't just pull-up on anyone... they need space to not get blocked... but if they can get that space every time and make the shots... how are they not considered all-time scorers??? Scoring is being able to put the ball in the basket and doing so efficiently... it doesn't matter how you do it so long as you can do it whenever you want...
Also have clear double standards with how they talk about Curry not meeting this criteria and him needing to dribble to score during an iso but talk right after and praise AI being able to dribble past defenders without mentioning that he also needs to dribble to score in iso... AI isn't going jab step 1 dribble pull-up either...
Also, the concept of AI being praised for attacking every defender vs players like Curry and Lebron being smart enough to target the worst defender is absurd... AI attacked everyone but he wasn't the most efficient scorer... so why are they praising a poor strategic decision as being superior offensively... it's not that Curry or Lebron can't attack any defender. It's simply smarter and more efficient to attack a weaker defender if you can easily create that match-up...

@@VVVY777 Valid argument even though it doesn't paint a whole picture...
MJ best scorer/player of his era... however you could argue less offensive talent during his era thus easier to shine above the rest.
Also, he played alongside all-time great defensive talent in an era where teams had mostly 1 scorer thus being the best scorer with the best defense... helps.
6-0 in the finals but lost 7 seasons before reaching the finals...
Lastly, I was mostly arguing quality of scorer as in skill and volume. KD, Curry, and Shaq can all get 30+ just like MJ, they just do it better unless you want to argue MJ GOAT mid-range over KD.
MJ's defense helped him rings too... KD might be a better scoring talent but worse overall player.
With that said, MJ is absolutely in the conversation amongst GOAT scorers.

Kawhi for example on the Toronto run looked like a prime MJ bucket getting level of scoring Vs. Kawhi with the spurs. the teams systems allow players different roles and in turn that's how they're being classified. tbh donovan mitchell is so underrated omg that man just packing the points statistic
curry is one of the greatest scorers he just different, he sucks in more attention than just about everyone. he can dribble.
scorer is just points. theres no need to categorise post up and stuff like that.
