Most salons in my area rip off acrylics and become agitated if you request another method. One woman got mad at me for saying "ouch". Not helpful for my social anxiety.
So I'm a new nail hobbiest and learning to do my own!

Getting mad at you for saying 'ouch' is atrocious and actually absurd. Absolute lack of empathy that is. Doing your own is the best option in this case :)

Same!!! Saves so much money compared to paying high prices for nails I’m not always in love with too. I’ve been to a few places where I told them the shape and length I want and they always tell me to pick something longer or don’t understand basic shapes like almond or coffin. No thanks!!!

My ex nail tec used a tip to get the nails off. They are damaged and paper thin. I do my own nails now. I use dip powder I’m still learning. I have learned so much from you. I file and or soak off, so they are getting better and happy. So thank you for teaching me. 🥰

Omg! You read my mind! I had a nail tech use a nail tip to temple my lifting acrylic extensions. It hurt and I think it's just irresponsible to do just because they wanted to keep "business" moving as fast as they could. That's choosing quantity over quality...
In my opinion...a successful business will always choose quality over quantity!

Ugh, ripping off nails. I'll never forget the time as a teen I became impatient with soaking and decided to rip my pinky nail off. My nail was so weak I tore a hole down into the nail bed. No kidding- there was no nail underneath at all, just meat. It was small, but still uncomfortable. As the nail grew out, the free edge on that end of the nail looked like it had been pierced for jewelry. Lesson learned: no pulling, no ripping, no yanking.

It was because my old technician used to pull any loose enhancements off with a plastic tip that I decided to get my certificate as a technician myself and never go back to her again. When I started to take my own clients I swore I would never harm my client's nails and always explain each step of what I was doing answering any questions they had regarding product.

They use acrylic and then gel polish. So after the last place (not the same place as above) i went to told me that she sold dip in system i have done my own nails. They never been this healthy lol. I’m sure I’ve written this before but I had a nail tech who was arguing with her boss WHILE she was hand filing my left hand to remove gel polish for my new manicure.
She burnt my 4 finger nails and although I said ‘ouch’ and ‘please stop’ several times she continued. I had to snatch my hand away! The argument continued and due to my arthritis I was unable to feel the burning on my 3 other nails.
10 days later I was in so much pain I had to remove the gel polish. I soaked it off and over the following 3 months the damage grew up my nail bed. I had a hole in each finger nail on my left hand. The middle finger had puss and all the fingers were red and puffy.
I got a referral at another salon and they confirmed what I thought. The natural nail was burnt and thinned so much down to the nail bed and infection had got in.
I couldn’t wear even normal nail polish for 6 months while the nails grew out. They were soooooo weak and when the hole grew out I had to cut my nails down to the quick!
I have never ever been to a salon again! I learnt to do my own gel nails now and I do them at home. I have learnt so much from watching Suzie too 💜💅🏼

We got some cheap white hand towels years ago at a wholesale club. While they are seriously worn, they are perfect for nails. I wipe the mostly dissolved acrylic with one when I soak off. I started getting acrylics very young like high school and I knew no better and of course the salons in my are all of them almost ripped the nails. Yes they used tips to do it made my nails so sore!!! They had the nerve to charge for that service! I am now a Tech my self ; I have worked hard from the beginning at forming techniques learning to file off, and soak off. I worked so hard for my education as you must education is always hard won . I still have slight waves in my nails from my teen years nothing insane ; but you can feel them if you run your finger on the nail surface so crazy & I am 32 year young lol 😝

11:44 keep in mind, Suzie is a professional. She knows exactly where she is filing (not on the natural nail). If you're not sure, keep the edge of the file between the adhered part and the lifted part. Move your file slowly if you have to, to make sure you don't touch your natural nail.

I was going to the same salon for years and they would tear off the acrylic nails if I had really bad lifting. I had lifting after every single manicure, losing nails often also. They would also charge me extra for 'fixing' a broken nail and blame me for the lifting. I have been watching your videos for months now and have learnt so much! I have been doing my own nails for some time now with no lifting, no damage, no breaks and none falling off. Now I know they we not prepping or shaping properly, likely to get me to come back more often (basically a straight up scam). Thank you so much for making these videos! You have saved my nails and saved me a lot of money and heartache. I hope that over lockdown more people discover your channel and learn to either do it themselves or to sus out who is and isn't a proper nail tech. Please keep making videos! There is always something valuable to learn from you!

This salon I went to was fine until I had to have my nails removed once. She soaked them off and then used nail clippers to pry off the remaining acrylic. She nearly punctured my nail bed. Another time, I had broken two nails, so I needed them replaced and the nail tech pried them off with another nail tip. Both times, it hurt, so I quit going and have since invested in the Kiara Sky gelly stips starter kit, which I'm super excited for.

The nail salon I went to b4 I started "trying" to do my own at home would take a tip n put it under n pull off. That would hurt so so bad n I was new to even having my nails done so I thought that's how it was done. Well one time I did mine with acrylic and one was hurting so bad and I couldn't get it off so I called that place n asked if I could stop by. Naturally they said sure. She bout killed me, not sure which hurt worse the nail or the removal process! She told me to NEVER do my own nails. That she's been doing nails for 20 years n never does her own! She just wanted my business lol as I have continued doing them myself and working on a hand. Now I have a small drill so I can remove the most then clip an acetone pad to my fingers to remove the rest! Thanks for these videos Suzie and cameraman! They r so helpful!

I much prefer filling down my nails to soaking. And, since I’ve learned that I have a sensitivity to some of the chemicals in nail products 🧐🙄 I really can’t. It doesn’t seem to be acetone or monomer, but I don’t need it to become an issue. So, soaking in it could possibly just be a chemical reaction waiting to happen for me. And, between your files and my e-file, I can shorten them in short order!! Thanks for all of your tips, Suzie! Hope the weather is as beautiful up there as it is here in WA lately! Have a great week!

I've been to two nail salons in my area where the technician will just pop the acrylics right off with a fake nail extension. Its painful and it did leave my nails beds weak...it took *months* for them to recover. This is truly an improper way and also a common practice. Its very unfortunate because the nail beds become so weak that it can't even withstand a regular gel nail manicure w/no extensions. I've tried and the UV lamp would burn my nail beds because they were weak and thin from how they'd pop off my acrylics.
I learned this *after* becoming a licensed cosmetologist and discovered that they most likely do this to save time because in the industry time is money and that statement was very stressed to me in school.

I had my nails done just before we locked down here in Sydney 2 months ago l my poor nails l… they’ve snapped off in weird places and two actually ripped the skin off under the nails . We just got locked down even harder so I’ve ordered stuff to help repair my natural nail and I think I’ll be babying them for a long time. Anyway as always you have beautiful nails

Who better to ask than you !
QUESTION: I really want to use those pre designed french tips from back in the day ...with polygel, how would I do that with out etching the tops of the tips ?
Can you please make a video !?

Oh I had a “nail tech” rip off the acrylic with a tip. Or they use an old sanding bit and continuously drill until my nails feel like they are on fire 🔥
I see your kittys in the background. They got so big😻
These is a young girl I watch on UA-cam. Her name is Mia Maples. She and her mother tried doing each other’s nails in acrylic. They said that Suzie makes it look so easy. 😀 Thought I’d just mention it 😄

Thanks for the video. I would’ve wounded someone wearing those nails for a day, much less the damage caused wearing them for a week. Giving you props for that. Can you please tell me the name and style number for your frames. I have been looking for that shape and with literally 1000’s of frames it’s been drudgery sifting through them. Thanks 🙏🏽

Thank you suzi, you saved my nails. I got extension + acrylic and I asked the tech to pinch my nails. Unfortunately, she ignored me and I ended up with thick, wide, flat nails that looked atrocious. I haven't gotten enhancements since 2006 and this was a bad experience. I didn't want to go back to the same salon since they ignored my requests the first time. Everyone kept saying how bad of shape my nails would be in when I took off the acrylics. After watching your video, I just filed them down and got a dip powder set and I'm good to go! I am glad I won't have to wait 6 months to grow out weak brittle nails! One question I have is if I can treat dip powder changes like acrylic fills? I am wondering if I have to soak them off every time? The nail salon said they soaked off dip powder each time, but I am afraid of damaging my natural nail. let me know you think!

I’ve unfortunately had a salon do that to me too I went in and said can I have my acrylics removed and get gel polish and I was under the impression they were gonna soak them off but instead they used another fake nail to pry them off 😡 needless to say I don’t go there anymore but I do my nails at home and love it so much better and I’ve learned so many awesome tips from you Suzie I can now get my nails to last with little to no lifting!!

Suzie…. If you have the protective barrier on your natural nails, do you still need to use the dehydrator and bonder when building a nail?? Also, I assume when using tips, you glue them to the protective layer?? If so, how secure would they be?? I’m not a professional, but like you, did nails even before licensing was required and before the pink came out!! The nails we did way back then, we’re just solid white…. LoL!! I picked it back up when hybrid gels came out. I prefer using acrylic though, and have been doing my own for the past several years ;)). Thanks for all the educational vids. I’ve learned so much about doing nails with all the different products and technique’s ♥️. You’re the best!!

I have a question, I take very good care of my nails, buffing them gently and oiling them to keep them healthy.I am 50 yrs old and I don’t know if this has anything to do with what happened, but I thought I’d mention it. About 2 months ago I went to a highly recommended salon to get a mani, pedi. The girl doing my nails, used an edible on my natural nail, and even after I told her I wanted regular polish, she kept trying to do gel, I’ve never had a mani hurt as bad as this one did, and the owner came over as she was putting something on my nail and told her not to use it on my natural nail. Long story short, when it was done, my nails really hurt and the next morning my nails looked like they had chicken pox, when I went back up to the salon to show her and to see what was going on, I was told I could get $5 off my next mani, of course I’m never going back. Well, since then, my nail are no splitting down the middle to the bed, I clip them back to keep from going into the nail bed, and I don’t know what to do, because as soon as they grown any, they split. Is there anything I can do to fix this? And did the nail tech cause a problem that I didn’t realize that are making them do that? I’ll try anything to fix this. Thank you for your advise.

Every salon I have ever been to in NJ has ripped off my nails. I now do my own because my nails are naturally paper thin. So it was waaaaay worse (obvi) after them taking layers off and than filing them before putting more product on they were non existent . I always wondered why my nails would hurt so bad when they put new ones on! Thank god I started doing my own nails and getting educated on nails! I also like to leave a thin layer of acrylic on my nails(or whatever I am filing off)
And thank you SO much for your videos ❣️
-also I was wondering if I can put acrylic over a base coat ? And how well the adhesion would be.

Loved seeing the kitties make a cameo 😻😻 This video was v helpful. I’m currently trying for the first time to remove a set of acrylic nails on my own. I actually just got one of your e-files (my first one!). Getting the hang of it little by little but am v awkward with my non dominant hand so I may try using a hand file(s) for the rest of the job.

I had my nails done professionally once (not really my speed to go to a salon personally so I didn't know anything) and my nail tech cut off my beautiful, long, nicely shaped natural nails, efiled the entire surface of my nail then glued a tip on. She completely ruined my nails, they were a mess. They're just now healthy after almost a year of growing out where she efiled my nail bed into oblivion. I like doing my own nails so after that nightmare experience I decided to learn how to use fun gel polishes (magnetic and flowery and watercolor etc) so I could take care of my own nails without having to trust a stranger. (Not to mention she clipped my cuticle and actually cut me). I like listening to Suzy while I do it cause it feels like we're hanging out :/
