I can't wait until they get the fuel gauge going. Those vdo's don't work properly with the stock fuel sender. So I'm looking forward to the next video. I have a 71 super so these videos are great
Which 5 indicator lights are in cluster? Blinkers and battery obviously. Sorry if this is a dumb Q. Building a ‘70 with close to the same setup, never done this before.
This dashboard (if that's what you're referring to as the "frame") fits 1971-1974 and 1976-1977 Standard Beetles and 1971-1972 Super Beetles. It does not fit 1973-1979 Super Beetles. - www.jbugs.com/product/113857051DS.html
We have seen people use various plastic paints and dyes to change the dashboard color. SEM Vinyl & Plastic paint is something we've used in the past on various plastic pieces. We do offer padded dash tops as well as the plastic facias for the Karmann Ghia, yes. www.jbugs.com/category/vw-dashboards.html
Thank you Sam for sharing this techniques to restored our 1971 Super-beetle dashboard. Awesome!
No problem at all. I hate hearing people say how dashboards don't fit. They absolutely do, if you know how to fit them!
Nice gauge layout and detail
Thank you, it wasn't exactly what I wanted but I couldn't find a RHD glove box door!

I’ve used stock and VDO senders with stock and VDO gauge. Just got to make sure you have the right sender.
Thanks for sharing this valuable information, for us... "Do it yourselfers"!
Very cool, speedo adapter!
Thank you, took some figuring out but, I got it figured!

Left Turn, Oil Pressure, Hi Beam, Battery, Right Turn
@@Sam_Mebane probably not a bad thing to have oil pressure light in addition to the gauge. Thank you for the info and great videos on the ‘71.
@@joekegg correct, but we're just mimicking what VW originally ran with the exception of adding separate left and right turn signal indicators.
New to this topic, I apologize for my ignorance. Does this frame works in a 1973 new beetle? Or they are different frames?

160mph speedo? That seems a little...optimistic. :D
Optimistic that VDO would eventually make the 120mph Speedo again, yes. They discontinue more and more products daily.
Can this dash be painted and do you have one for a ghia

good stuff
The only safety devices on my '64 are seat belts and the emergency brake.
Anyone got the link for that steering wheel?
Volante S6 VW 14" Steering Wheel, Black Ash Wood & Black Leather Grip, Chrome 3 Spoke Center
Search that at JBugs.com, should bring it right up.
Can you use the heat gun after dyeing the dashpad?
You’ll have to test that one, perhaps on a piece from behind the dash grill.
