Holy sheeesh, thanks so much for the kind words my man, I feel the same way about you. And i'm glad we're both still rockin' our 1508's;) P.S gonna have to go delete those super embarrasing old videos now, k bye
That's awesome! Two of my favorite leather crafters are friends, because of leather crafting! I bought my first side a 3 to 4 oz oil tanned top grain hide, cognac brown, it's beautiful! I can't wait to see what I can make with it! These reviews and information on machines are super important, as is the how-to's like sewing/cutting/gluing/burnishing/etc! Much continued successes to both you guys! If you are ever in Georgia, let's meet up, would love to drop by District Leather and buy some hides!lol!👌✌🤘👍
So helpful, so honest...Thanks so much Ryan. I brought a USED LU 1508 Juki two months ago that has changed my life. Learnt so much from Stock & Barrel how to use, like you he's so vital and informative. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for putting this video together, Ryan! The way you feel about Parker is the way I feel about you. Watching your videos is what got me into leather craft!! Thank you so, so much!!!
Hi others have asked why you got rid of your Techsew machine. It would be great to know pros and cons of the sewing machines you have had over time. Thanks.
Very helpful information on all of the machines! Thanks so much for sharing your insight! Awesome to see Parker on there also! You both are such huge inspirations for me! Thanks so much for all that you do for the Craft!
I'm looking to buy a new machine now so you and Parker have really helped me make my decision with the Juki 1508N. Between you, Parker and Hemlock and Hyde, I'm learning so much about leather crafting so I really appreciate all that you all do for the community. Keep up the good work.
Though it is great to see your business thrive, I’m glad you offer hand stitching as an option for some products. I am proud to own a hand-stitched V3 wallet! Absolutely love it!
I really like your atelier and your clean products. I think my favorite is the Cordovan card holder with the large Rose Gold Embossing. You are an inspiration for someone who also hope to start up a leather goods business in the future. Thanks for the tour and description on your machines. Have a nice day.
Thank you so much for the time and effort you take to do these vids. The way you see Parker is how I see you. You are 100% my go to for learning and I value the information you provide so much. It's awesome to see others wanting to help others. Humanity restored!!! lol But honestly, you've helped me so much in taking up a new hobby that I, one day, can make into a profitable business. Thank you Ryan!
I've got a Cobra Class 4, and it's great for holsters, heavy belts, and basically anything that works well with 207 or 277 thread and 25/26 size needles on a cylinder arm. It's not great at the finer work and smaller threads or needles like 138 down to 64ish. So, I've been getting more in to bags as well as continuing with wallets and collars. My next machinery purchase is going to be the bell skiver but I'm also thinking about that next sewing machine. I need a good comparison between the Juki 1508N and the Cobra 18 or even the Cobra 5110 Post machine for working with odd corners and interior stich lines. Any thoughts or a way to get a good non-biased comparison review?
Thanks for the insights . Your presentation is well conveyed . I've considered the juki 1508 NH as it uses a 794 needle system . My sister has a glow forge and loves it . Adler 205 has been on my watch list but its VERY EXPENSIVE .
Thanks so much for sharing this info Ryan. I’ve been UA-cam stalking you for a while and finally signed up for Skillshare today via your link.....thanks for the hookup! I’m looking forward to learning a bit more about photography for my finished bags. Question for you. I’m really interested in the drill press setup as I too prefer to hold my leather vertically. Could you share a link for the burnishing drum? I see several options out there on Amazon, but curious to know where yours comes from. Thanks again!
Checking in from Baltimore, Md. Thank you for taking the time away from other things you could be doing to share with us some very useful information. As usual, you're the man. Keep doing what you’re doing and please stay safe!
Greetings Ryan, I notice you are using a Glowforge Laser Engraver. My eye has primarily been caught by the Epilog, Zing 24 ... but, Glowforge is also still in the running. If possible, how would you compare and which would you recommend? ... and, if you can, why?
u should get juki ddl-9000c lms, it has automatic thread adjustments that's all computer controlled, it will automaically adjust the thread tension when it senses the fabric your sewing.
Hi Ryan, Great video. I noticed on the section about the Adler Cylinder Arm that you had it set up on a flat table. Some cylinder arms are on a pedestal or a table with a cut out. I am thinking of getting a Cylinder Arm to be used for Leather and Upholstery. So a table like that is appealing. My question is - Have you found any major restrictions with making leather bags and other leather goods with the Cylinder Arm mounted on the Flat table. I like the look of it for what I am planning. Thanks, Will
Hey Ryan what do you think about the weaver 303 sewing machine? Ive been hand stitching for a while and I think I’m ready to. Move up to a sewing machine. PS I love the brass pattern knife you sell. Works great!
I was watching Parker but i went for Juki 1541 and i think that it was an amazing choice :) Its a mix of Primabalerina and CAT buldozer ;) It can be ultra delicate for 0,5mm lamb leather and it can as well be a buldozer for 6-7mm safety gear belts ^_^
Hey Pete, the Juki is a flatbed so I use it for flat things like wallets and journals. The Adler is a cylinder arm machine so I use it more for bags and hats and Dopp kits. Things that are not so flat when making them.
Ryan your work is amazing and I have watched you for years...your links to some of the machines are not working...could you please tell me the specific model and stand bell skiver you have? Also is it top and bottom feed? Where do you get your dies? Is there an advantage to the metal over the other? Do you include the various "holes or slots for the pattern in the die? Thank you
Thanks so much for this! Knowing what you know now, if money was limited, would you only buy the glowforge over the big press? Looking for a way to speed up my productivity, but can't buy all of them!
I like machines and I'm in the middle of setting up my own Shop so if you could maybe do an example video on some of the machines talking about where to get the cutters or foil and what to use or not use? Thanks
I know someone already asked, but I’m also curious why you switched from the techsew 5100 to the Adler. Is it easier to make micro adjustments on? Thanks for the great Vid!!!
Adler is better built ,runs more smoothly after sales back is second to none overall the machine is built like a tank they will be able to sew your coffin liner with it.
Looks like in your latest video you are using an updated version of the “heat foil” machine; if I’m correct about that, can you share who makes the new one? Thanks!
Hi from Guelph. Was wondering how thick you can sew with your juki ? Going to be looking for a sewing machine in the new year. Do you have any thoughts on tech sew ?
question about the clicker press. What is the minimum force needed to press through leather? I saw the atom comes in a 10 ton model amd the manual clicker press you have is a 4 ton. Any reason for the high pressure? Would saving money on a lower ton machine be fine?
You’re the best brother 💪🏼💪🏼 ! I admire your skill ❤ ! I have a little question ! what would you think is better for car upholstery such as top/French stitches on arm covers or head rests ? I have a flat bed sewing machine but I’ve been thinking about finding either a cylinder post head sewing machine !!
Thank you. I noticed you have this Adler and I was wondering how you like it. It has been tempting to get a cheaper cylinder arm, but I think the Adler is likely the best for fine leather goods.
Thanks Ryan for the great reviews! Just wanted to check with you - what is the maximum thread size that the 669 can do? I mostly do 92, 138, and 207. Wanted to get a machine that can handle small threads well but can also do 207 maximum. Appreciate it!
Do you recommend the light skiver or the heavier duty? I bought a Techsew 5100 SE last September want a skiver machine now which woukd you suggest? The Techsew sk4 or sk5? Thank you for your time and attention. Michael Shaw Cole Slaw's Custom Leather
The SK4 is very similar to the model I use. Depends on what you are using it for. If you are using thicker leather all the time maybe it might be worth the upgrade. Talk to techsew. They will guide you to the correct machine.
Hey dude I would really love to see you make a leather briefcase or a leather backpack or another cool leather product on your channel! Maybe some tutorials in the future as well
Congratulations for your videos, they have helped me a lot, Im from Brasil! Do you think a eletronic cilynder sewing machine a good choice? I am thinking about buying a pfaff 335
Hi from Easton Maryland.Thank you to share. The bench drill is good idea but why you don’t put the Tandy buffering and sanding Tandy machine Vertical instead of horizontal 😜 Stay safe and God bless you and your family.
Hey out there-thank you for your very inspiring videos! Greetings from the snowy and boring (Lockdown thx to Covid-19) Austrian Mountains. Hope you are doing quite well, and there´s no thoughts of quitting leathercraft.....I´ve got a burning under the nails question: what kind of speed reducer did you take? I´ve got a few days ago a Hightex 1510- nearly the same as your Yuki. But I got a cluth motor-can I build in a speed reducer? My machine starts slowly, but if I hit the gas just with the tippy end of my schoe- that thing goes off like hell.....thanks a lot for your Info....great job-go for it!
I would suggest getting a brushless servo motor. You could try adding a speed reducer to that motor. In any case it’s always good to have a speed reducer.
Great video Ryan ! I follow both you and Parker. Both of you should be proud of how you represent yourself and your love of the craft ! I do have a question about the weaver clicker. How well does it work for the larger wallets, like the V2 or the V6? Seriously considering one of those, just no one around me has one to ask, or try out! Thanks!
Really interested in the hot foil machine was thinking about making jewelry bags using soft flexible leather would it work on that with a logo like 3 inches by 2 inches?
Sadly, Simards just went out of business. All inventory will be auctioned off in August. I offer my sincere condolences to the Simard family and wish them well. 🌺🙏🌺
I hAve some really dumb and ignorant questions regarding sewing. I am so embarrassed asking them that I fear they might cancel me from the internet. But it’s a matter of survival so here goes. I hope you see this and find it in your heart to answer cause I’ve googled and googled to no avail. 1) what is the point of two bobbins on the Juki 1508NS 2) in threading the juki videos I see them show loading the bobbin and then they show straight from Spool to needle. So my question is but why three ways of doing this. Are there individual benefits. 3) could you spend some time going over the needles and thread sizes you use their application, the recommended Stitch length? To someone who had never sewn in their life and the juki 1508 wasn gonna be their first stictch is there something you wanna tip them with or a list of things ?
Your tool reviews are always valuable, thank you. I especially liked your attempt at not being too harsh on the shit tools, but your message came through nonetheless 😂👍
Hi Ryan. I love this video as it answers so many questions. I do have a question about the bell skiver. I rebind bibles (memphisbibles.com) and have to thin the edge of the leather extremely thin to fold over. I also use softer leathers (goatskin, lamb, etc) Will this machine thin down the leather extremely thin? Almost paper like? I’ve watched a ton of videos and no one mentions how thin you can’t reduce the thickness.
For the sanding machine, if you enjoy having your burnisher vertical, you might also prefer your sanding vertically? If so you can look at wood working machines like Oscillating column sanders such as this one from amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B07KKXNWWX/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_ddZRFbKA76CXB or something like it.

Hi Do you have Parker UA-cam address as I can by find it, thanks very much appreciate it.
The frame that holds your die in the press is called a "chase". The items that open and close to set your die within the chase is called "furniture".

I think a post bed machine would be good or a cylinder arm machine. Either or. The cylinder arm machine can be transformed into a flat bed too.
As for the thermal engraving machine, what are the gold foils that are placed when engraving, their use, and where do I get them?
Thank you. I noticed you have this Adler and I was wondering how you like it. It has been tempting to get a cheaper cylinder arm, but I think the Adler is likely the best for fine leather goods.
I really like the Adler. I’ve only really owned a Juki, and a heavy duty Techsew. The Adler is amazing. You pay for the quality.
That adler is a monster of a machine, value for money, durable. I guess it's the best cylinder arm bed machine on the market currently

Hi Ryan. I love this video as it answers so many questions.
I do have a question about the bell skiver. I rebind bibles (memphisbibles.com) and have to thin the edge of the leather extremely thin to fold over. I also use softer leathers (goatskin, lamb, etc)
Will this machine thin down the leather extremely thin? Almost paper like? I’ve watched a ton of videos and no one mentions how thin you can’t reduce the thickness.
Curious as well why you got rid of your techsew. I know adler is better but it is so expensive
