Great ideas here. However, do we really need to pour epoxy (basically plastic) on the gravel so they don’t move? That chemical, because that’s what it basically is, breaks down into the soil as well as drifts in the winds. We’re literally breathing in and eating micro plastics now.

My eyes love plants! Lots of plants!!!!
But now that I have lots of plants…. I have lots of work.. I like to do yard work…. I just don’t like to HAVE to do yard work.. think of other hobbies… it’s not like… the crochet project is getting out of control and I need to get to it before it takes over the living room!!!
But with gardening…. If I don’t get those weeds…. The thistles will take over! If I don’t water the fuchsias soon they’ll die!

    Summary
How can homeowners make the most of their front yard?
Homeowners can make the most of their front yard by considering it as a livable space that should not be neglected. Jasmine Roth suggests that the front yard can be a valuable asset and provides the following tips:
    1. **Landscaping Selection**: Choose landscaping that accentuates the house and contrasts with the background. Use a variety of plants strategically to create a cohesive and finished look without being too busy.
    2. **Maintenance**: Be realistic about the amount of maintenance you are willing to do. Select plants that serve a purpose and are low-maintenance if you do not want to spend a lot of time maintaining your front yard.
    3. **Design Cohesion**: Pick a design style and stick with it to create a unified look. Consider how different elements like plants, colors, and structures tie together to enhance the overall appearance of the front yard.
    4. **Outdoor Living Areas**: Add functional elements like front porches, decks, or structures that define spaces and make the front yard feel like an outdoor room where you can relax and hang out.
    5. **Customization**: Customize the space to make it functional and enjoyable for the whole family, considering how every square inch of the front yard can be utilized for various activities and purposes.
When selecting landscaping, Jasmine Roth follows the following key principles:
When selecting landscaping, Jasmine Roth follows the following key principles:
    1. **Simplicity**: Avoid getting too crazy with plant selection. Instead of choosing a wide variety of plants, pick three different plants and repeat them to create a cohesive look.
    2. **Accentuation**: Choose landscaping that accentuates the house and contrasts with the background. Use a combination of plants in different sizes and colors to enhance the overall appearance of the front yard.
    3. **Design Style**: Pick a specific design style and stick with it. It's important to maintain consistency in landscaping design to create a unified and visually appealing look for the front yard.
    4. **Maintenance**: Consider the level of maintenance required for the landscaping. Select plants that are purposeful and low-maintenance if you do not want to spend a lot of time maintaining your front yard.
    5. **Color Scheme**: Choose one accent color and stick with it to avoid an overdone look. Select colors that complement the house and create a harmonious visual impact in the front yard.
How can homeowners integrate functional elements like playgrounds into their front yard design?
Homeowners can integrate functional elements like playgrounds into their front yard design by following the creative approach suggested by Jasmine Roth. Instead of a traditional playground setup, she recommends the concept of an "organic obstacle course" that seamlessly blends with the landscaping. Here's how homeowners can achieve this:
    1. **Incorporate Playful Features**: Create an obstacle course within the landscaping that includes elements like a trampoline, balance beam, and climbing logs. These features provide opportunities for kids to play and explore while blending naturally with the overall design.
    2. **Functional Landscaping**: Ensure that the landscaping elements serve a dual purpose of aesthetics and functionality. By integrating play elements discreetly into the design, homeowners can maintain a visually appealing front yard while providing a fun and engaging space for children.
    3. **Safety Considerations**: Prioritize safety when designing the playground elements. Ensure that the play features are secure, age-appropriate, and well-integrated into the landscaping to prevent any hazards or accidents.
    4. **Customization**: Tailor the playground design to suit the needs and preferences of the family. Consider how the space will be used and how different elements can enhance the overall outdoor experience for both children and adults.
By creatively incorporating functional play elements into the front yard design, homeowners can create a unique and engaging outdoor space that caters to the needs of the entire family while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the landscaping.

Don't forget about using plants that provide food and shelter for butterflies and bees.
The environment and all its creatures need our help and protection.
Take the time to plant a tree, bush or flowers with a child. It will connect them to nature for life time.
Planting a vegetable garden can teach kids about where their food comes from.
We can all do something to protect the planet for future generations.

I use to live in a lower middle class neighborhood but that’s all I could afford. I had a nice large front porch that I had fixed up with a wicker rocker, a small wicker table, a large fern in a tall planter and a wreath I had made hanging on the door. It was my place to have coffee in the morning. Someone came along and stole all of it. I was broken hearted.--Susan
